What's shocking is that people are not making a LIVING wage, which many economists have stated is an average of $23 an hour across the US. This is the minimum someone could get paid to ensure that their cost of housing does not exceed 35% of their income--a standard we can all get behind. No one should be working 40 hours a week and not able to make rent without 4 roommates.
And realistically that’s just barely paying rent, bills and some or most living expenses. Maybe. Cutting it pretty close. I don’t see why Colorado isn’t fixing this overpriced rent. When it was $1800 a few years ago that was pretty wild. Now it’s almost $3000. I’m just over paying shareholders for a tiny little apartment. At that point it’s housing prices but that too is nearly impossible. Since the 70s rent has never gone down. Increasing by nearly 50% in a couple years. Yeah maybe have 5-10 years it remains the same. We are going to have more homeless or people having serious health complications overworking to pay shareholders.
McDonald's shouldn't be paying people $23 an hour though. The problem is our dollar isn't actually worth anything anymore and no one wants to admit it. It's embarrassing and the disaster is looming on the edge of the cliff.
@I agree. I see your point, not sure if anything can be done about it though. Almost like a 2-ton boulder rolling down a hill right now. I voted for Trump because I WANT to believe what he was saying, but honestly I don’t see it changing too many things immediately or having the massive impact he was talking about while running. Still good to see things are kind of the up after the Election though. Maybe I should pay more attention to local politics rather than national level?
Thanks for sharing this helpful information! The Denver's minimum wage is rising to $18.81 in January, and that will be the highest out of the local, state, and federal minimum wages.
