44:20 Last officially retired American NHLer that was on a Canadian franchises's payroll was Ryan Callahan who retired an Ottawa Senator on December 30th 2020. It was cap floor shenanigans from a trade stemming from that off season where Ottawa picked up his $5.8M LTIR cap hit and sent their $2.4M LTIR cap hit that was Mike Condon to the Lightning. If that doesn't count because he never played a game for the Senators, goaltender Richard Bachman retired from the Vancouver Canucks from the NHL on October 2, 2020. His last game in the NHL was a 6-2 loss to the Wild on Nov 15, 2018. edit: If you want to be technical, the last American born player to retire on a Canadian team was Brandon Sutter who retired on August 29, 2023 after his failed PTO with the Edmonton Oilers, but his last game was as a Canuck. He was born in New York, but had dual citizenship and elected to play for Canada in international play.
Devils fan here I can tell you how at least I feel about the comment, and he isn’t wrong. Toronto is an outlier in terms of media coverage and hockey is the sport in Canada, it is the largest city as well. Hockey is not that in the states, it’s growing for sure but it is nowhere near the scale and scope of the NBA, NFL, and even potentially the MLB depending on the market. The comment was simply accurate that coaching outside of Toronto, broadly speaking, is the way the rest of the league functions in terms of media coverage and level of fame. It’s the equivalent for the NFL of a person coaching in Dallas then going somewhere else it’s just different. Steve’s reaction almost proves the point lol
Devils fan here. Not offended by the Keefe quote at all. Leafs media following and fandom is much bigger than NJ (a market competing with 8 other professional teams - NYR, NYI, NYK, BKN, NYY, NYM, NYG, NYJ - a million entertainment options in NYC, concerts, and Broadway). Also, NJD has had quite a lot of success since moving here in '82. ~40 yrs, 20+ playoff births, 5 finals, 3 cups). Leafs have a 57 year cup drought. So there's already less pressure from that alone. It wasn't meant as a slight against the Leafs, it's just very matter of fact in the difference of how the teams are covered and viewed in their markets. I also think those unnamed ppl said that just to cheer him up a little as a joke. Losing the Leafs job sucks.
I agree, the Leafs are a completely different beast when it comes to both pressure and results. I'm not offended at all. After all, why else would so many ex-Leafs see success after leaving the team? 🫣
@stevedangle to be fair...bay leafs aren't noticeable when they're in a sauce. However, when you taste a sauce without a bay leaf, you KNOW that it's missing a bay leaf
As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for a long time, could you guys also give a shoutout to the kitchen staff as well. It isn’t just servers that make that place run!
Bro at the end is 75% correct and Adam is 25% correct. Yes the players should get paid and GMs are dumb, but the players are being paid too much given the current salary cap not allowing the team to spend it on other players
> Star players don't trust GMs to use those money to do the right thing I feel like in some cases they do trust GMs. Like Boston or, recently, Florida. And those who don't trust Boston are free to go and try to make money elsewhere. Bruins just wouldn't pay you more than they had reserved for you.
Problem with the embellishment is they only call it alongside the original call. This means the player isn't risking a disadvantage, since worst case they get offsetting minors. What we need is refs to start calling the dive without the offset.
He had a bad year but think about it, he didn’t just lose all his skill in amidst of 1-2 seasons. Guy put up the most assists ever by a left wing in a season and now he’s just not capable of that a year or so later? Bullshit. He KNOWS how to play hockey. He doesn’t have the chemistry or talent that he had in Florida. Or the same systems that he had in Florida. Also factor in all that change for Huberdeau led to low confidence in himself especially with the expectations around his name.
@@Vvranaa I understand he probably didn’t lose his skill over night but buddy gets paid 10.5 million dollars a year! When you get paid that much you are the system, also it’s not like he’s been playing with bums and he’s on the first power play so no excuse for back to back 50 points seasons
What u want to know is this of the leafs got booted from the league, and somebody said you can either die in 24hrs, go for Boston or go for the Canadians wich would Steve pick?
Devils fans are passionate. But that is also the 4th most popular hockey team in the state of NJ. So he could somewhat say that they don't care that much.
I can see the point about the “real NHL” being that Leafs ownership doesn’t care if the team wins or not since they’ll make a ton of money anyway. There’s no real incentive from the top to improve the team. Other markets need a good product on the ice. In Toronto there’s a ton of pressure from fans and media on the coach and players but it’s pretty disproportionate to pressure on upper management. So they get stuck with incomplete rosters that can’t win aren’t getting much support to fix it.
Dallas was playing 5 NHL calibre defensemen coming into this series. If Tanev is out they're down to 4. Meanwhile Edmonton can choose which defenseman they scratch. Dallas has good forward depth, but no defensive depth, and a very cold backup goaltender.
We care, we are actula NHL fan base. Kappo Kahkonen. who had bad year. In new jersey. Blake Coleman scored 30 goals? Yeah, very good nhl fan base. Smart. deep diving into the sport. No just yelling haters who wants wins no matter what. This guys are face of toronto fan base.
Shockingly good sound quality.
28:00 Adam calls the game perfectly here, deserves credit.
He kept going and i was like yep, yep, yep...dudes a psychic sometimes.
Great to meet Steve, Adam, and Jessie and get a pic with all of them today. GOAT Trio right there. Thanks boys for your hard work. Cheers.
0:15 Adam didn’t get the dress code 🤣
This is dope!
Go Avs Go
Angus is a champion and a warrior!
there’s always one of you who misses the memo on the matching outfits
And of course, it's the Gripper King.
If they wore matching outfits we wouldn't able to tell the difference between Adam and Jesse.
Incredible show as always!! It’s such a treat to catch you boys live ❤

Adam Wylde jumpscare???
North Jersey resident here: My local paper only covers the Rangers. That gives you an idea of how much media coverage the Devils have.
The way yall talk about Edmonton Dallas is hilarious.
Angus is a warrior, the true star of the show
The Boston Pizza tour! Keep it goin gents.

Is that a maddawg siting in the front row of the crowd cam?? MADDAWWWGGG
Great question from Tom Javaris
I hope you'll do a bigger venue soon across Canada and the United States in the future
The world goes bigger and bigger.

lets go angus
HELL YEAH ANGUS LETS GOOOOOO!!
@stevedangle to be fair...bay leafs aren't noticeable when they're in a sauce. However, when you taste a sauce without a bay leaf, you KNOW that it's missing a bay leaf
We demand Bay Leaf Respect, Steve
love the Bay Leaf reference as Clifton being added to sauce.
know that John Candy once played as a Toronto Bay Leaf in a SCTV skit in the 1980s
As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for a long time, could you guys also give a shoutout to the kitchen staff as well. It isn’t just servers that make that place run!
Cup winning teams usually have a true number one stud defenceman. I like that Jesse and Steve are quoting what I have been commenting for years.
Bro at the end is 75% correct and Adam is 25% correct. Yes the players should get paid and GMs are dumb, but the players are being paid too much given the current salary cap not allowing the team to spend it on other players
Thank you!

I feel like in some cases they do trust GMs. Like Boston or, recently, Florida.
And those who don't trust Boston are free to go and try to make money elsewhere. Bruins just wouldn't pay you more than they had reserved for you.
Steve has misinterpreted the keefe comment, got offended resulting in an irrational response. The audience hardly reacted to it.
Devils fan here and I was with Steve 100%
Sidney Crosby and Martin Brodeur have continually taken below market contracts because they trusted their organization to make the moves to win.
Hey Guys, figured out the answer to my question??.
ANTTI NIEMI MENTION IN 2024 I GOT WHIPLASH
It's odd that Jesse would advocate for six 4s instead of five 10s...
diving does happen in the Premier League but Steve id exaggerating the hell out of it.
Jesse is the type of guy to order a salad at Boston Pizza.
Good for him
BPs got some good salads
Sorry but I’m not holding my breath with woll

Hit the wrong live source channel. It was an accident.
Adam still defending huberdeau is shocking
Huberdeaus agent has a show with Adam

Oilers are two wons away from the stanley cup final.
whatever problems we have they could always be worse
Where do you announce these live podcasts?
they bring it up on the podcast or discord
What u want to know is this of the leafs got booted from the league, and somebody said you can either die in 24hrs, go for Boston or go for the Canadians wich would Steve pick?
Devils fans are passionate. But that is also the 4th most popular hockey team in the state of NJ. So he could somewhat say that they don't care that much.
then he can pass to himself
Toronto isn’t the Yankees. They won. The leafs are more cowboys don’t win big fanbase
but what if you're an intelligent team who keeps marner instead of convincing yourself a 5'6 goalie or montour is going to save the team.
They need a legit work horse D .. They do not have that. Rielly is not that. This core will not win with its current setup..
Has somebody mentioned to these guys that Edm's bottom 6 has outscored Dallas' bottom 6. This depth myth is hilarious.
its like a game of telephones with people who refuse to just watch the games
Have you not watched the games lmao
@@SirrJDubs if you can genuinely tell me the stars bottom 6 has outplayed the oilers than i cant trust your mental capacity
Brown Helen Jackson Frank Martinez Charles
U guys r grossly misinterpreting the quote. Every leaugue has its big market teams and small market teams where players aren’t as scrutinized
Stop pretending to care about devils fan

Fourth!!! Love the podcast
I believe that we were promised a Jim and/or Brad Treliving showing….disappointing.
Leafs suck, leafs suck
First!
How do I get that jersey
I like Brossoit. Maybe Talbot
Everyone underestimates the oilers depth

My girl taylor!
Bring steven to BC next year!
is she the one in the white tank top front row?

I know Jesse could get through The Tough Mudder, but would Steve and Adam give it a go for charity.
