i used do alot of V8 with a turbochargers and started breaking drivetrain parts...4 cylinders and turbochargers was alot more fun, easier, and made rebuilding alot quicker, less moving parts, easier diagnostics, with right combination will make any car or truck quick in the street...but do not expect too be the fastest in track. Nice!
It's way more expensive to swap a V8 than turbo the existing 2.2L engine that's in the S10. I think it makes for a better daily driver also. My friends that have the V8 swap have ended up selling them and didn't ever drive them much just because of the little things like no AC (Florida), gauge issues, nose heavy on the steering etc. My S10 is not super fast, but does accelerate well once it's going and it sounds cool when the turbo spools up. The truck is light and handles well. As with the other posts, I get 30mpg making it not a biggie to drive anywhere in it. Back in the day we used to put 350's in Vega's but the best one was a buddy's that we put a mall 283 in it. The car was significantly lighter and drove infinitely better than all the other Vega's in the club. It wasn't the fastest, but he was in it every day and had a blast in it. If you want to build a V8, I suggest looking on CL for stalled S10 V8 swaps. There are always a couple posted on there. If you want a turbo 2.2L, they are not posted on CL, because all of us that have them, don't need to sell them, and probably don't ever want to.
@@boosted_dime Really not necessary. Probably 75% of braking happens on the front wheels anyway, as I'm sure you know. Disc brakes are definitely sexier than drums though when talking aesthetics 😄

@@boosted_dime hey man I was wondering how direct the process is . My pops gave me a 98 Sonoma with a rebuilt motor and I found a kit .what would I need to remove ? And what should I se my afr to when tuning ? Thanks just for posting this vid too man
@@waynejordan7473 Thank you! As for how direct it would be to boost, you’re looking at upgrading the fuel pump at a minimum. That involves dropping the tank or pulling the bed off. Then, depending on the kit you have, you may need to remove the A/C compressor to make room for the turbo and it’s components. Run oil lines from block to turbo and back to pan, coolant as well if your setup is water cooled. Find a mounting solution for an intercooler, and likely custom fabricate intercooler piping if your kit doesn’t have it or isn’t a direct bolt on setup. When it comes to tuning, it depends on the fuel you run. On e85, a target of around 11.5afr using a gasoline scale under higher boost and WOT.
It's got a Garrett GT3071R, sourced most of my parts from either summitracing(great for fittings and stainless braided teflon AN line) ATPTurbo for the turbo itself, extremepsi for the BOV and wastegate and treadstoneperformance for the intercooler. Aluminum IC piping and stuff like that was sourced from eBay, out of a generic kit for $100 and then cut and welded to my needs
Yep, had some slight 60ft issues and my slow shifting it ran a 16.4 but trapped 91mph on 13psi. It's currently parked now for the summer but I'll be looking to push it harder this winter until the trans finally gives up.
+Hi_Powered_Mini Yeah, that's the exact reason I shift like a bitch too. Haha! If it goes and I decide to keep pursuing the 4cylinder build and pushing it to it's limits, I'll go for a tko500 or something like that. Thanks man!
+Hi_Powered_Mini man I've beat the shit outta my NV1500 and never had a problem out of it (240,000 miles). but the 95s did have a T5 behind the 2.2, im sure that a WCT5 with the 95 S10 bell housing would hold up great
I will have to admit, I didn't really go cheap on any of the parts like I could have. Total is probably around 10k. Haven't had it on the dyno yet but when I do, I'll be sure to post the vid/numbers.
Haven't had one overheating issue yet. I'm running a Flexalite electric fan with the autozone stock replacement radiator that has about a 1" thick core. I also don't have a/c so I can't say that with air conditioning full blast it would work but for the current setup daily driving in Vegas weather it's been great. Also using a 180* thermostat. Short of forced induction an engine swap is the only other thing. The small upgrades don't make a big enough impact to justify the cost, I'm talking about the electric fan, underdrive pullies, etc.
I do he might not but I do. If you want to keep it 4banger then go with a L61 engine and standalone ecu as the LN2 engine is a shit show with no high performance aftermarket parts. I do have one issue, it diesnt prevent me from passing inspection but it may affect my performance. If I drive my truck really fast or step on the pedal really hard. I get a lean condition. It comes up as system running to lean at high acceleration. It will tgrow the service engine light but as soon as I get back down to.lower speeds and no high accelerating the condition goes away and the light turns off by the time I turn the truck back on after that trip sometimes on the same trip after going slower the light turns vack off and the obd code vanishes everytime. Racer 124 he said he's running mid 250hp on low boost. A stock 5speed for a 2.2 (the NV1500) is rated for up to 300hp im pretty sure... so there's a good chance that yeah it's stock transmission
clearly not the ebay kit (facepalm) the ebay kits dont even work on these trucks because the kits were designed for chevy cavaliers, the turbo manifold on those kits hits the steering system in an s10.
planning on doing this to mine, i know its taboo but i may buy the ebay kit, i have heard that the ebay manifold doesnt fit, where did you get your manifold from and how much?
I would have to rewatch the video, but he named the company. He did say it was custom, so if your serious, just get an extra manifold gasket and take it to a custom shop that welds, they can make anything you need. You will need to tell them specifics like which turbo mount and physical locations. For instance, it is for this type of turbo, it will go in an S10, it has to clear the steering, or provide the vehicle so they can do the fab.
@@boosted_dime I dont have an ig account for it, it is currently sitting unable to start, battery died from sitting, i ended up swapping a manual t5 transmission into it, has a higher torque rating than the nv1500 and it was a very easy transmission swap to be honest. it needs a decent amount done to it, but i am sure it will run once i get another battery in it, doing that this weekend, to keep it running. I just dont want to pull the motor to fix the oil pan without building it, at least pistons and rods.

So built bottom end, meaning stroked out or what exactly? Thinking about doing something similar to mine and do a video timeline for it.
It's bored .050, Mahle pistons, Eagle rods. Stock crank.
Vid timeline would be cool. I have the full build with picture progress on s10forum.com
How much horse power does it make
Injectors?
How much money did you drop for this set up? Also, what HP do you have at the wheels? Great looking truck man.
Pab Mar Quite honestly, more than it was worth to do. North of 10K just for all engine systems related parts + machine shop labor. I still don't have dyno numbers for it, when the weather cools down I'll consider heading down and seeing what it actually makes when I'm happy enough with the tune. And appreciate it man! It looks a lot better now lowered with a new hood.
BoostedDime ever get dyno numbers?
Did you have to run any Kind of aftermarket computer?
Nope just stock ecu tuned with hptuners
Are you still using the stock transmission? If not what transmission are you using?
Racer 124 he said he's running mid 250hp on low boost. A stock 5speed for a 2.2 (the NV1500) is rated for up to 300hp im pretty sure... so there's a good chance that yeah it's stock transmission
You'd be correct. Stock NV1500
@@seancranger3879 300??? these things are only rated to 180lb of torque.
I’m trying to find a tune and clutch for my 2.2l s10 I’m turbo it
is that a stock fuel pressure regulator and what size injector?
+Zack Ryan Stock FPR is still there yes, and it's got 80lb Siemens injectors.
Can you give me a link. I want to do this to my 97 s10 2.2 with 52,500 miles on er.
Very nice truck! What's the hp to it
Not exactly sure yet. I'll try and get a dyno video up soon
Is this ebay kit?? Looks quality !!
WillJ videos it looks like it and those kits only cost $700
Raj I Have A 1998 S10 And I Want A Turbo Kit, Send Me A Ebay Link Pleaseeee
clearly not the ebay kit (facepalm) the ebay kits dont even work on these trucks because the kits were designed for chevy cavaliers, the turbo manifold on those kits hits the steering system in an s10.
planning on doing this to mine, i know its taboo but i may buy the ebay kit, i have heard that the ebay manifold doesnt fit, where did you get your manifold from and how much?
I would have to rewatch the video, but he named the company. He did say it was custom, so if your serious, just get an extra manifold gasket and take it to a custom shop that welds, they can make anything you need.
You will need to tell them specifics like which turbo mount and physical locations.
For instance, it is for this type of turbo, it will go in an S10, it has to clear the steering, or provide the vehicle so they can do the fab.
@@robertmoore119 Long time for a reply, look up my account boostedsonoma. Lmao its already done
Sorry for the late replies man. I took a break from social media. I'll check out your account on IG :)
I just dont want to pull the motor to fix the oil pan without building it, at least pistons and rods.
i will admit i spent some $$ on my camaro after i got it and that did slow things down on the truck a bit, i had contacted you on instagram a while back and you did reply, i have the same rims on my truck that you have. no idea how but they banned my insta because they though i was a bot, i guess thats what i get for not posting anything lol
hp output?
Approx mid 200's on low boost
Stock crank? damn. Stock head too or patriot?
Yes stock crank. Stock head atm too. I have everything I need to do my original head, just waiting on cash for the machine work.
nice rims! what kind and where can i get some?
+Caden Campbell These are c6 corvette replicas man. Few different places sell em, oewheels llc is where I picked mine up.
Did you need wheel spacers for them to fit?
yes. s10s are low offset truck. around 15mm. camaros and vettes are high offset cars. around 45-55mm.
+Hi_Powered_Mini Absolutely. 3" back 2.5" front. Gotta paint em black so they don't look so ridiculous haha
how's the engine hold up. I want to turbo my o3 sdime that has less than 50k miles
So far so good. But having a forged rotating assembly is insurance for sure.
Shit is there a motor in there ! Reminds me of that old pokemon tangled idk
Lol yeah it needs some clean up. Function over form for now
where did you get your turbo from ?
atpturbo
Built bottom end, what was done?
+sinusbradycardia Bored 50 over, Mahle pistons and Eagle h beam rods. Nothing crazy just the forged internals.
did you cut the bumper
The plastic valence has been chopped up yes.
Link to header
It was a one off design, but made through Stainless Headers Mfg. They sent me a mock-up kit with aluminum elbows and PVC and return your design in your choice of material.
r those corvette wheels ?
+Camaron Zinda Yes, c6 vette. 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the back.
What kind of wheels are those?
Wheels are c6 corvette, 18x9.5 in the rear and 18x8.5 in the front
Can the stock computer be tuned for a turbo?
Stock ecu can be calibrated via HPTuners, yes! Though standalone for these trucks would be the best route.
The MAP sensor can't read boost and the computer can't be changed to read boost through the MAP sensor.
Any updates on this thing?
Not yet. Trying to save up some money right now so I can move forward with suspension and drivetrain
