the numbers are the chord's position in a scale... diatonic is a type of scale... in the C MAJOR diatonic scale it's technically all the white keys on a piano, and the numbers represent the root note of each chord and it's position or "interval" as it's called. the 4th note in the c major scale for instance is F, making F the 4, G would be the 5, and A would be 6... and so on....
It's lonely. This song seems to make people happy but for some reason it does not do the same for me. Not that it's a bad song; it's just that it's sort of happiness is too bittersweet to me, weighing toward the sad.
