Very late comment, and I say this as a HUGE FF fan, as they are my favorite band, so I want you to know I'm not hating... But you must not have heard very many live metal bands. 😕
It's a shame there's so many negative comments about Mike Heller. The guy has a spinal condition and had to adapt his playing style to accommodate it - hence he's very upright. Fucking bedroom critics. The guy is a phenomenal drummer.
I was at every Melbourne show on their first tour back in 93 for Soul of a new machine , burtons clean vocals haven’t changed much since then, all he had was a boss delay pedal which he manually operated throughout their set , but credit to his metal vocals they’re still special. Love this band miss ray and Chris
Estábamos ya muy cansados y aún tuvimos que esperar un rato para pillar sitio en primera fila, pero al final hicieron un estupendo concierto y mereció la pena, fue el broche perfecto para un cartel de categoría!
In my opinion, I don't give a flying F*** wether Burton uses autotune or not. I produce a lot of music and if your band is as unique, original and creative as FF you should seek your limits in order to give it that bit of extra atmosphere. I also compose music, and I write a lot of stuff I can't sing or play myself, I've choses to let other people do it for me, in the studio aswell as live, but Burton seeks his limits on the album and I vallue creativity more than an unaltrered live performance. I can't wait to see them this year. And I'm an old dude :p I was there back in1999, and I cann tell that Burton has made a great leap with his vocal performance live. So keep on enjoying the music, and always seek the limits, bacause if you only do what you already can you'll never grow ;)
definitely. i dig both the way it sounds live and the album. burton has improved for sure. I hope to hell i can see them sometime. been a fan for 10 years and they are an inspiration for me.
Some dumb asses also need to realize he uses the audio tune because he’s supposed to sound like a robot on his cleans lol and he still does it really good live too
Como suena les suena Powershifter en este directo.... Increible!! .... y a ver cuando quitan del setlist de los directos edgecrusher o linchpin... y final exit deberían volver a tocarlo en sus conciertos
@@llnn5112 well, then... young people are absolutely clueless when it comes to FF. Shitty mix. The stage monitor mix must've been fantastic, 'cause... I don't see Dino goin' apeshit
I can hear the guitar just fine, but for those who say it sounds thin, there's two factors: 1) in the studio, most metal guitars are double tracked on both the left and right to have a thicker sound. Unless you are playing backing tracks, it's nearly impossible to replicate that live with just one guitarist. 2) the sound engineer may have been tired himself considering this was at 3AM.
My second concert ever was Fear Factory back in 1996, so bad ass. They played with Dry Kill Logic and Primer 55, anyone remember those guys? I was 120 pounds back then and got tossed by some 250 pound fat chick. Such a good show.
@@slayermill8621 Yeah fully I saw them live the same year ...total goose bumps with Burton down on one knee his face turning crimson just absolutely giving it fucking everything and sounding so amazing...
ken frazee Just listen to Burt's clean vocals on albums, it's so obvious he uses auto tune. It doesn't sound natural and he sings high notes on album when *EVERYONE* knows Burt can't do that live.
Do you even know what auto tune even sounds like? It's obvious you don't. I can hit those "high" notes and I suck, at vocals at any rate. He gets dialed in studio but, yeah, youtube vids demonstrate major suckiness. saw them live twice and he sounded great, maybe acoustic weirdness- frequency-distance-decibels, this is a thing that happens a lot, many live recordings replace tracks to compensate
Auto-tune does not have to sound like the typical Pop/Dance Daft Punk/Cher sound we all ubiquitously know to be auto-tune. The same application and tool can produce a very wide range of effect to the track it is on. I would not be surprised at all if Melodyne is playing a big part of their studio albums. I have seen Fear Factory many times since Obsolete and his voice has taken a hit live in the last 5 years or so. Either way, they are still an incredible band.
Man it's so sad to see Burton's voice deteriorate the way it has. I saw FF in Portland a couple years back and it was really bad. Musically the band had great energy on stage but Burton's clean vocals were even making the sound guy cringe.
If he would’ve learned how to use false chord correctly in time he could’ve sounded almost the same but without absolutely killing his vocal chords. Even if he learns an actual technique now, his voice probably won’t heal and improve too much. His gritty vocals sound great but his cleans are suffering badly.
@collide no he wasn't. Burton was solid as fuck in the mid 90's to around 2006. The Obsolete tour is especially great. Check out some live stuff from 1998.
Ian Honour Yup, my first FF show was in '99 and live vocals sounded amazing all the way up through the Mechanize album tour. It wasn't until I saw them some time after that where Burt's cleans were totally shot and off key.
Reading the comments I thought for a while that I was the only one I noticed, thank God not. Lip sync sucks, I saw Al Jourgensen from Ministry doing it and really sucks, pretty sad when you see a vocalist that can not play live what's doing on studio... of course with tech helping
I've been singing like this for 23 years and I've never sounded that bad, even when my throat was fucked up. Love FF and Burton on album but live, his cleans have sucked since the early years. They should consider doing SoaNM in it's entirety, those songs are amazing live and Burton can still sing that stuff, sounds better as all the clean stuff from Obsolete.
People I'm sick of seeing you all complain about Burts clean vocals metal singers deliberately hold their vocal abilities back while on tour for a number of reasons the most common of which is to keep their voices from breaking the rest of the tour and as far as the so called lip syncing on Powershifter, there was no lip sync except on the post bridge leading into the second chorus they've been doing that since Mechanize came out and they're one of many groups to do such and besides growling for over 20 years takes its toll it will harm your voice over time regardless of conditioning making it difficult to hit higher notes in closing Burts performance of Powershifter in this vid is the best I've seen
