My basketball coach ran us till some of us puked. He would have us run suicides for so long people were desperate for water and then yelled at us to run faster until those people who drank water puked. He would stand in the middle of everyone running by with his arms out screaming "I wanna feel a god damn breeze". Lol
Yes the interviews in the beginning of each episode is with the real veterans who were there. The show is based on their stories. There are some errors, but other than that the show is very accurate to what actually happened. Sobel was a great drill instructor, but not good in the field. They did not like him, but the men in Easy Company did give him credit for training them as hard as he did so that those who survived did survive. This is one of my favorite shows and you're in for a journey. You haven't seen anything yet.
If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup." I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant, and a true story. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE!
