      He was trying to do letterman where he repeats silly jokes over and over just to get a laugh!

      Maybe sometimes it looks like this, but sometimes he's just rude. A brazilian comedian interviewed him once and when the guy tried to make a scene for the show, he just said he wouldn't do it, saying he wasn't getting paid for that, so he wouldn't work for him. The interview didn't last long and then it didn't even go live. He's not a kind person at all.

      Welcome to the wonderful World of us Austrians, we never put on a fake smile and talk behind backs, simply because we are rude right away. Also, don't expect an Austrian man to work if he isn't getting paid for it. And while we're at it, we love to complain about everything at our work, but in the end we still do our job well. :]

    I always get the impression from Americans that they have no desire to learn about other cultures unless it's either to mock or to find novelty in them. This whole interview with Christoph explaining his country's traditions is Jimmy just searching for joke material to use. Christmas has been prevalent in Austria far longer than it has in America- keep that in mind, "y'all".

    • @tipsycat27
      @tipsycat27 7 лет назад +120

      ***** I'm actually Austrian, like Christoph. And did you mean his remark on lenience and permissiveness? Because he actually says 'thats not funny'. Because it's not. He's complimenting you. English isn't my first language and I can understand better than you. You americans are so sensitive despite being so dismissive to other nations.

    • @tipsycat27
      @tipsycat27 7 лет назад +38

      ***** 'Perhaps that was intent?' That WAS his intent.
      And the Las Vegas thing is a joke. I'm not american but everyone knows that Las vegas is a place to gamble, drink and have sex. He's just making a disgusted face because he's acknowledging that humorously. You REALLY have to stop being so picky.
      But every day i see americans saying that they think their country is number 1. Everyday I see americans push other cultures aside for their own. I dont hate america but you have to be really stupid to not see this too, like in this interview for example. Nobody actually listens to Christoph because they just want more jokes.

    • @tipsycat27
      @tipsycat27 7 лет назад +14

      ***** are you going to keep taking everything i say and just copying it and reversing it and thinking it's a valid point?...

    Don't take Austrians too serious, they have a very special kind of humor, they call it "Schmäh" and if you don't understand it you think it's very rude and arrogant, but it isn't, it's meant in a lovely way, it's kind of being extremely sarcastic without showing being sarcastic .After a while in Austria you'll figure it out. Christoph Waltz is enjoying this 100%.

      That annoyed me too. And for that stupid "Hey y'all!" joke. But it probably had to do with how Freud described the good and evil duality present in human psyche. There's our basic, instinctual, animalistic desires, and then there's our idealistic vision for how'd we'd like to be and act. These two conflicting ideas are personified in Krampus and Saint Nicolas, or better yet, in the kids that they'd get, respectively.

    In Germany Knecht Ruprecht helps St. Nikolaus, but he is nowhere near as scary as Krampus. Check out videos here or google it...the masks are awesomely horrifying. As far as I know, the closest thing to Krampus happens in the southwest corner of Germany where there's a tradition of wearing masks and costumes during Fasnet (Mardi Gras). Every little town has their own masks and costumes. As a kid it's beyond exciting to be part of this for a week each year.

    as a tyrolian i would say christoph waltz ,unlike a lot of austrians, is very polite precisely and a gentleman and you see the difference in humor between fallon and waltz. Waltz has the kind of humor wich gets produced by saying something very serious (also meant serious) but at the same time its fummy because its true but crazy. And fallon has the IQ 70 being drunk kind of humor.

      Conan is the red hair guy. I prefer him and other talk show hosts over Fallon. Compared to other hosts, Jimmy Fallon isn't that witty, smooth, or that great of an interviewer, but his "hysterical"personality somehow appeals to mainstream audiences. I never liked him on SNL either. Just too giggly, 1 dimensional, and awkward. (not the good kind of awkward like Conan) He seems like a silly kid, and not a sophisticated show host. I guess the reasons we dislike him are actually the reasons most people like him. They find him adorable. Plus his games with celebs are instant viral youTube fodder. He really owes his production team big time for saving his ass

    Haha I love Waltz's descriptions of Austria, they are so true. We are very strict and always complaining, barely happy and if we are, we don't show it. We have wierd traditions which nobody has and are even proud of it. We generelly dont like other people but we seem to be very polite to them because we are double-dealer. Well, we are very cynical and sarcastic too, also mischievous. If other people are straitened, that makes us happy! But as I said, we wouldnt show it.
    To shorten it, we are just a terrible people, without exception.

    • @VitruvianVision
      @VitruvianVision 9 лет назад

      Not all of us are like this, but those who aren't, usually leave the country. ;) I have never considered myself to be a proper Austrian, simply bc I am not mischieveous, or cynical. I prefer the more "lenient" American tradition, in this sense. Naivete isn't always a bad thing, mind me. We should have more of it- it makes people better.

    It's weird to me to see how people from other counrtries react to our tradition. To me the Krampus is the most normal thing ever. And the thing he mentioned with men dressing up in actuall wool, wearing big wooden masks and getting drunk and running through the village is not only a Krampus thing. We also have those creatures called "Perchten" who look nearly the same as the Krampus and there are like big events called "Perchtenlauf" (Perchten-run) where big groups of people put on wool suits and wear big wooden masks too and have like kind of a parade, I guess, where they go through the village or town at night and many people go there to watch them. It's an old ritual that in the past was used to chase away the winter and cold weather so the farmers could start planting again.
