Honestly, the damage he deals on that grab is absurd. I appreciate how well designed most of this character is - the consideration to his standard attack damage; weapon design/layout; fluid animations; generally well thought-through playstyle with an interesting concept. That said - I believe he'll be extremely bad for the game's health especially in 4v4. The overtuned damage on the soul stance grab plus some very strong feats will mean Dominion and Breach are about to become extremely unbalanced and nigh on unplayable if the enemy team is mostly Soheis. Happy to discuss - this seems reminiscent of pre-CCU shugo + a bit of Hito problem rolled into one. I accept that after the 2-week exclusive purchase period for the character is up they'll most likely nerf the character. Edit: forgot to mention also - the 3 free souls on GB is a major part of his problems imo - if it were 2 or 1 soul rewarded from grab plus a bit more damage (maybe 15 instead of 9) then he'd be considerably more balanced i believe

The 3 stack build up for one guardbreak seems a bit much given the dmg and the way you execute the move since you only need to hit with the forward bash and you can half health or even kill them.
Its a revolutionary Hero design concept, that's for sure. And it does make me feel like the older Heroes feel boring in comparison; why shouldn't more Heroes get unique mechanics like this? Some Heroes do have unique mechanics, but they are tied to Feats, whereas Sohei's can even be used in Duels.
I can see people being annoyed by getting hit with his special attack, but man it's gonna be annoying to try to build up the stacks and do the attack, just for a shaman to headbutt them and you lose the stacks.
after bashing my head against a brick wall in duels with him here are the changes i would make PERSONALLY 900ms opener heavies are far too slow to not justify having some form of HA, i'd give him HA on opener heavies late into the animation remove the bash from heavy parry, way too powerful considering he has a 95 damage burst attack that he can just GET off of a parry like that i'd personally LIKE all his weapons to have different properties so i'd like his lights do be a little more unique (i will give suggestions in a bit) i'd like to be able to light-heavy without having to use a zone, he feels too clunky not being able to just have light-heavy or vice versa and as good as his zone is it feels like a middle man to do some of the things i actually WANT to do. my recommendations for his lights left, keep it 400ms, nothing i'd change personally top, maybe slow it down to 600 and give it more damage right, 500ms undodge-able i wanted to keep the similar theme his heavies have where the property makes sense for the type of weapon so in my mind his (Kodachii?) left light weapon is pretty plain so it having no properties makes sense to me his (Tetsubou?) top light weapon seems like the heftier weapon of the trio so making it do more damage feels right, suggested slowing it down so it doesn't become the default in a fight his (Kama?) right light weapon (going off design alone) feels like it'd be the assassin type weapon and i think giving THAT weapon undogeable instead of the club just makes more sense thematically
oh, the reason i suggested slowing the lights with properties down is purely because i think the community would have a bitch fit if they weren't slower. also thought of giving top light unblockable property but honestly i hate fighting unblockable lights and didn't feel right suggesting that
Do me a favor? Can you see if Sohei takes more dmg somehow? Been changing my playstyle but I dunno why he feels like he takes more dmg.. Kinda like how Akuma is in Street Fighter, where he takes more dmg considering he dishes out heavy dmg. Swapped my playstyle to use my stacks for the health regain and dmg bonus instead of the one shot. (mainly because I get relapses from my time using Shaman whenever my bite was interrupted ._.) The fact he loses his stacks is so weird to me.. at least early into the animation, AFTER is fine since you see the souls drain into the blade for the stab.. but the build up seems derpy to have to restart ALL over again t get 6 stack.
(disclaimer: I'm a casual player) I think this is a good character not super op but I think him getting his special move of just two gb's is too much. I think a better way would be the first one gets you the three souls then you need to do the rest of the moves to fill the rest.
I'm unsure exactly how I feel about a character designed to have lower than average damage that circumvents it with feats and having a very high damage all or nothing move... but... I can at least give the design team credit for making SOMETHING unique about them rather than making them just another heavy with big hitboxes and armour or something. I can give them that. Kind of cool but, unusual to say the least.
@@alphaxbox3728 It'll be easy to build the stacks, you literally get a t4 ability that does it immediately. The ability shouldn't work on the special move, that's all
Considering how easily his finisher is interrupted, I feel that he should be able to acquire his stacks a lot easier. "Such as that little demonstration you gave with the Perry light Perry heavy" now if they increase his frame rate make him a bit faster then I can see you taking away the Perry light Perry heavy combo, But the character that they have created is based on one thing and the fact that he can be interrupted on that one thing is a little trash.
Remove instant 3 GB stacks and you get actually interesting design where you have to consider your moves and directions. adding autostacking 3 souls was a mistake in that concept imo because it makes it way too easy to get full stacks in just 2 GBs and damage is ridiculously high, you literally oneshot anyone with having your passive and T1, not even talking about possible Fear or banner from teammates and other buffs. It's ok to have ability to deal this high damage for playing well, but too unfair to get it with just 2 reads.
149 for a predictable payoff? I mean you in neutral deal less damage with all your attacks. You require all the stacks that have predictable moves. No hyper armor, and if interrupted you lose all stacks with no damagem

Do we know if the full stack special move revenge locks?
The real question to ask is can you build souls on officers and/or pikemen in breach
He can hito without being hito with no feats... My rep 72 hito is probably going to have a seat
Bro we missed you 😢
I can see people being annoyed by getting hit with his special attack, but man it's gonna be annoying to try to build up the stacks and do the attack, just for a shaman to headbutt them and you lose the stacks.
It will take a while for me to get used to his limited chains
Finally got him to rep 7
New hero means I immediately check Freeze
Goddammit now I gotta redownload FH
Holy shit they actually outdid themselves with this one, such a cool concept to integrate in the gameplay.
after bashing my head against a brick wall in duels with him here are the changes i would make PERSONALLY
900ms opener heavies are far too slow to not justify having some form of HA, i'd give him HA on opener heavies late into the animation
remove the bash from heavy parry, way too powerful considering he has a 95 damage burst attack that he can just GET off of a parry like that
i'd personally LIKE all his weapons to have different properties so i'd like his lights do be a little more unique (i will give suggestions in a bit)
i'd like to be able to light-heavy without having to use a zone, he feels too clunky not being able to just have light-heavy or vice versa and as good as his zone is it feels like a middle man to do some of the things i actually WANT to do.
my recommendations for his lights
left, keep it 400ms, nothing i'd change personally
top, maybe slow it down to 600 and give it more damage
right, 500ms undodge-able
i wanted to keep the similar theme his heavies have where the property makes sense for the type of weapon so in my mind
his (Kodachii?) left light weapon is pretty plain so it having no properties makes sense to me
his (Tetsubou?) top light weapon seems like the heftier weapon of the trio so making it do more damage feels right, suggested slowing it down so it doesn't become the default in a fight
his (Kama?) right light weapon (going off design alone) feels like it'd be the assassin type weapon and i think giving THAT weapon undogeable instead of the club just makes more sense thematically
oh, the reason i suggested slowing the lights with properties down is purely because i think the community would have a bitch fit if they weren't slower. also thought of giving top light unblockable property but honestly i hate fighting unblockable lights and didn't feel right suggesting that
Super fun hero
Do me a favor?
Can you see if Sohei takes more dmg somehow?
Been changing my playstyle but I dunno why he feels like he takes more dmg.. Kinda like how Akuma is in Street Fighter, where he takes more dmg considering he dishes out heavy dmg.
Swapped my playstyle to use my stacks for the health regain and dmg bonus instead of the one shot.
(mainly because I get relapses from my time using Shaman whenever my bite was interrupted ._.)
The fact he loses his stacks is so weird to me.. at least early into the animation, AFTER is fine since you see the souls drain into the blade for the stab.. but the build up seems derpy to have to restart ALL over again t get 6 stack.
turn on combat log and you can see how much damage he takes for yourself. but the answer is no, he doesn't take more damage
finally they worked on the character, not the griffin
(disclaimer: I'm a casual player) I think this is a good character not super op but I think him getting his special move of just two gb's is too much. I think a better way would be the first one gets you the three souls then you need to do the rest of the moves to fill the rest.
Give shugoki execution on gb with zone plz
Long time no see Dr. Freeze🫰
this guy looks pretty fun, i wish ubisoft didnt ban me without a reason and refuse to give me any actual evidence or reason why since septemember 2023
Am I the only one who keeps reading it as “Shohei” on accident? I’ve been watching too much baseball recently.
Kind of cool but, unusual to say the least.
abilities seem kind of busted, gain 25% damage at full stacks which also work on the special move for 149 damage :\
I mean it still requires you to build stacks. And even then its a 1 time use. Id imagine its uptime being less than 50% of the match.
@@alphaxbox3728 It'll be easy to build the stacks, you literally get a t4 ability that does it immediately.
The ability shouldn't work on the special move, that's all
Did he just day one shugo full health kill that man?!
Varangian feats when
The damagee is going to be impossible to balance around
Oh this guys literally a samsho character
We got Japanese monks!!! yeahh!!!!!
I swear bro sounds just like Kevin Cruz😅
Make me think about OS of old Shugoki... what a bad sign !
So if you guardbreak twice, you get an instant win move? I see no problem with this. Totally.
I mean if you get GB'd twice by most characters your already dead lol. He does so little in neutral you have to play for one hit.
149 damage? What????????? Who thought this was a good idea?
149 for a predictable payoff? I mean you in neutral deal less damage with all your attacks. You require all the stacks that have predictable moves. No hyper armor, and if interrupted you lose all stacks with no damagem
