Why does this touch my soul? I remember being obessed with this song when I was a child! Princes was freaking amazing and still can't believe he's gone!
I know I can't either such a Legend 😭
Hard to believe it's been nearly 40 years. What an entertainer he was. Glad I saw him live in concert.
One of the top 3 best performances of this song 🔥🔥🔥
Agreed. I think it’s the best. I just haven’t seen another with this classic line up and overall electricity that this one had. Plus it was fairly perfect with the studio version except one slight lyric mis cue. And the solo was just ripping good. Great tone and he was just on. When he kicked that mic stand over…gave me chills.
We will never see the likes of Prince again. Prince, the 1 and Only.
Super jealous of the angels right now. When prince went home, the heavens played this song as his introduction
I have this in videotape, I recorded it as it aired in 1985. Probably the best awards show performance in history.
Prince has quite a few contenders for best awards show performance in history.
@@bolder2009 name just one other then Prince, 90% of award performers did lip sync and din't play any instruments, just saying.
@@horrorpowerfilms9481 Prince at The Brit Awards in 2006 is another contender. There you go.
@@bolder2009 Totally agree, Prince might have the complete top 5 best tv performances ever. Halftime show, Hall of Fame, Arsenio Hall and even the Grammys.
The greatest that ever did it.
Prince really said “Man F*ck This Mic!”😂👏🏽
My God what a performance.

I know a lot of fans will boast about their fav artist but you cannot deny Prince's skill if you TRULY know music. The charisma, melody, words.. the list goes on. RIP King.
I haven’t watched this Grammy performance since I was fourteen. I’m now fifty and it gave me as many goosebumps and tears as it did in 1985.
Those outfits they’re all wearing look fantastic. Just so beautiful to watch and listen to.
It was actually the American Music Awards.
@edgerunnerproduction Facts I still got the Vhs 1985 what a great year 😊
The only song that makes anybody from Minnesota cry 😢
Not only from Minnesota 😢
The night before I heard about Prince passing I dreamed I was in a stadium people were coming in and all of a sudden Prince was right there on the stage but he was young wearing his purple outfit playing and singing Purple Rain nobody else on the stage..... I wake up my daughter is crying omg Mom Prince died.... 😭☔🙏🏽✝️🕊
so sad 😢😥
팝 역사에 남을 천재의 탄생을 알렸던 무대...
80s was the golden age for guitarists. prince and eddie dancing and making their guitars sing
The passion in this music is overwhelming. My god it’s amazing.
And that is how you write.. arrange.. compose.. and deliver a song that touches... moves and inspires is beyond many artists
Very few artists possess this inner vision
Prince was lit 🔥 well before and after many musicians
The core if his flame was Purple...
He stood out and as most of us know... he worked hard at doing so 💜
The sounds this guy makes with a guitar is unreal
Remembering every time I saw Prince in concert. This man wrote the soundtrack to my life. No one could ever replace his artistry. Rest in your purple greatness💜
I am so right there with you!! I tell my friends all the time Prince is the soundtrack of my life!! My favorite artist of all time!!
They should just cancel awards shows. Nothing will ever top this.
And Super Bowl halftime shows.
You mean to tell me you don't enjoy 2 chains and elephant man lol
Yeah
@@husker22chad63 1993 was the peak by far.
alot of great artists in the past 20 years have done as well
I have yet to come across a better performed and captured moment of musical brilliance and triumphant human excellence. This is beyond exceptionally awesome. This is like, every once in a while, God puts a human on Earth and says, “Watch this...” R.I.P. 🌹
he wasnt even the best artist of his decade
Queen at Live Aid?
Back when musicians had talent and actually sang without autotune and played their instruments live and not with a soundtrack and lip sync their songs
Oh wow you're so unique I'm speechless.theres no one like u. 4ever Prince .
Next level mastery and greatness!! Prince WAS MUSIC PERSONIFIED
OH YES, MUSIC WAS HIS DNA.
In another universe somewhere, Prince is the King Of Pop.
Prince has been gone 6 years today. Still can’t believe he’s gone.
GOSH HE WAS BEAUTIFUL!
Agree with Gary Peters comment. Nothing will ever top this. Prince was a genius. His catalogue of songs got me through a lot of pain. One of the most intelligent and interesting men from a world of music. In my opinion.. Long live the absolute King 💜
you're about to see. the reason why he's a legend 💜💜💜
I agree with all these comments, Prince was the King of pop!! His music will stand the test of time! No doubt
Better than pop!
Brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch this. Such a great artist!!! Simply the Best....EVER!!!!
I remember seeing this as a kid at 7 years old. My dad always said that Prince, Michael Jackson & Rick James were the greatest performers he got to see in person.
Wacko Jacko stole prince's final pose in which he lifts both arms and turns his back, Jacko copied this for the ending of man in the mirror at the grammies in 1988 and all subsequent Billie jean/man in the mirror performances.
@@mrpussinboots4252 exactly!!! Wacko Jacko even stole Prince's Darling Nikki floor-sex-move for his Way You Make me feel video. MJ was a no talent farse.
@@horrorpowerfilms9481 Infact Jacko lifted alot of the choreography and scenes from Grease during the way you make me feel. He also borrowed an array of John Travolta dance moves.
@@mrpussinboots4252 Totally agree, the irony that Mj famous moves come from white people, because Wacko Jacko basically ripped off completely the great Bob Fosse too. BTW he din't even choreographed the Thriller dance, still he gets the credit wrongly. MJ was a master of stealing people talent.
@@mrpussinboots4252 Prince stole songs and never paid his bands
That solo was a force of nature itself 😭💜
The best era of Prince
I look at this and smile the whole time. We all miss you dearly prince. Thanks for the good times friend.
Now this is how's it's done... Emotion - Soul - Passion - Pain
U know he felt EVERY note he hit and the spirt of the music flowed thru in day in and day out.
In my humble opinion,Queen has Bohemian Rapsody,Led Zeppelin has Stairways to Heaven and Prince has Purple Rain.
Three Masterpieces.
John lennon imagine, beatles let it be, mj billie jean, elvis cant help falling in love
@@yp8152 LOL! Billie Jean!! what's next? the Macarena? LOL!
@@horrorpowerfilms9481 MJ better than the most of the artist he named either way only one close is Prince 🤷🏽♂️
@@michaelbryan8860 LOL! MJ wrote songs like if he was in kindergarden, two dimensional immature bubble gum pop. Led Zeppelin, Queen were brilliant writers, played instruments and did personal art, as Prince.
@@horrorpowerfilms9481 😂
Love this song and Prince is so BEAUTIFUL
No one has ever been better. Before, during or since. No one ever will be. There was only one Prince Rogers Nelson, and he made sure we got to experience him.
The one and only 🐐
My god ...he was a genius
A true legend. There will be no other like him.

He put his everything in this bit, literally brought the house down, man o my, we love Prince, your awesome music will always live on while those(us) will continue to jam, r.i.p King of rock/pop
Untouchable performance and artist..
I remember rocking in my moms lap while watching this ( that was our thing: listening & rocking to music). I miss her 💜🌂
This man has so much passion. I love Prince!!
What a lovely song always my favorite song rip prince 😭 we miss you hello how are you doing today?
When prince began to solo I was like " ohhh.... okay..... this is some real shit going down right here! "
