Verdict: Not only the flagship of the brand, the S-class also serves as the de facto flagship of luxury sedans in general.
Overview
Long the choice for buyers seeking solid, unaffable deportment and a distinguished presence, the Mercedes-Benz S-class has become synonymous with power and wealth. Its six-figure starting price certainly plays a part, but it wouldn't have stayed on top for so long without the class-leading ride and comfort, upscale furnishings, and smooth and muscular powertrains that define it. The latter comes in the form of either a 429-hp turbocharged straight-six, a 496-hp twin-turbo V-8, or a plug-in hybrid that pairs the turbo six with an electric motor. The ride and handling benefit from a standard air-spring suspension, and heated and ventilated massaging front seats coddle the occupants. Well-equipped as standard, there's also a long list of optional hides, woods, and colors to personalize the S-class to your taste. If there is an area of contention, it's the sheer number of screens and their almost overwhelming amount of controls and features. Still, while many rivals including the Audi A8, BMW 7-series, and Genesis G90 have made inroads onto the big Benz's turf, for now at least, it remains the king of full-size luxury sedans.

Früher hat man für das Fahren von dem Luxusschlitten gerade mal 10 Drehregler gebraucht und ein paar Kippschalter für die Scheibenheber und das Auto lief ohne Computerausfälle. Das ist ein Auto für Leute, die damit angeben wollen, dass sie beim Einkaufen waren und die blöde Kiste ist danach nicht angesprungen!!😂😊

I do not like the screens. For example of the right way: the GLS 450 has screens integrated into the dash. They look like they came with the car. Yet for the much more expensive and luxurious S Class the screens look like they were aftermarket add-ons. Have you been sharing ideas with Jaguar? Because of those ugly out--of--place screens, that car is a "No" for me. Take it and park it [unsold]!

S680 has longer rear doors but yes this is technically features same as the maybach
I give the interior an “A minus” the color of the car an “A+” and the physical shape of the car, a “C- minus “ , because it’s so plain Jane.
That's the point.
I'd give exterior colour an A+ & the interior a C-, as for the shape, luxury is always meant to be understated, otherwise it looks tasteless and tacky.
