Some say we stand on the shoulders of giants. I believe that’s wholly untrue. We stand on the shoulders of people no more or less human than us, who stood on similarly mortal footing in their journeys. No man, however “great”, can claim he alone made his fate. All of us arrived at this place together, and we will forge a new destiny in the same manner as our forefathers forged our present.
Everyone is so quick to feel like it’s all falling apart around us. But I think if we zoom out it’s kind of always felt this way. Sure enough we are progressing, building, learning, improving. It’s all we do.
Well the thing is, it actually IS all falling all apart. People aren't just feeling it. When the first nukes were introduced, that is when the threat of the human race coming to and end became a reality. And with the problem of global warming aswell, the world might actually end if we do not stop. Back then we did not have this kind of power, and history has repeated itself MULTIPLE times that humans should not be trusted with catastrophic power.
Yes! All this doomerism ignores how far we´ve come. To not say we´ve progressed would be dishonoring to all people who helped to build our present. Now lets build the same future and better for the future genereations.
It's from close minded people who don't know their history much. Humanity TODAY is relatively peaceful and is doing much better than in the past, the average person from today has access to things that our ancestors would only DREAM of having... And the best part is it's only gonna get better from here.
I really appreciate the inclusion of first contact at the end. The future in many ways seems quite dire, but I’d much sooner believe in the optimism of something like trek then except that all that humanity has achieved is destined to crumbled dust. Lovely edit.
In the History of Star Trek's 21st century, it very closely mirrors the events of Fallout's 21t century. Both ended in nuclear devastation. The difference; the world of Fallout lost hope and gave up. War never changes. But the world of Star Trek didn't. Ad Astra per Aspera. In many ways, they're the outcome of the same scenario. One written by a pessimist and one by an optimist. Be the optimist.
i love how this is simultaneously a celebration of our history and also, by the inclusion of clips from historical films, of art and of our own celebration of history.
Well said brother. This statement might sound bad. But it's true. We've conquered the whole of the planet Earth (except for the oceans, the underground and the Antarctic). Our sapience is the ultimate weapon and with it we're able to subdue any other creature which shares this blue orb with us. Truth sometimes hurts, it might not sound right and it may not be ideal. But truth cannot be denied. Stay strong fellas.
This deserves so many more views, what an edit, taking from so many movies too to showcase the world of history, its a short glimpse into making you realise how insane all this is, how we take it for granted, how much has changed, how real history is honestly crazier than fiction when you think about it, the circumstances, the coincidences, the insanely long processes of how we got where we are now and all the elements that had to come together just to give us what we now see as basic necessities
Humanity came all this way, all the struggles, happiness, effort, love, anger, and so much more, and yet it may all come crumbling down because of a few old men disagreeing with each other. Beautiful edit none the less
This video is a pure masterpiece and should deserve a lot more views and attention compared to other content on this platform. Each little detail and second represents a major event. Showing that even the biggest events in our history is just a glimpse in the grand story of our species as a whole.
5000 years. That is the sum total of recorded human history. A drop in the bucket compared to the universe, but look how far we've made it anyway. We may not have anything to compare it to, but I believe we may yet be exceptional.
great edit. really sad how much of human history is simply warfare and bloodshed, though i was happy that the final bits were mostly great inventions, social change and art pioneers :)
