This is what I like to see. A near step by step build with tips and tricks for a clean and detailed model. Thanks for helping us new back in the hobby people.
I'd also consider myself a beginner due to the fact that after about 35 yrs. I have decided to get back into model car building. I had built many many kits when I was young and only had dreams of the detailing that is now so very possible due to all the new products that are available these days. TY 4 sharing. And yes panel liner is not to good for accenting the grills. It is better to make your own solution. I'm working on two 67s that are going to be green and gold and green and chrome. I appreciate your in depth explanation of your technique. Once again TYVM
Big block Chevy engines are red from the factory from 65 through 72 Sir. I have one I’m building it black with a black vinyl top. You have great build sir
One of the first things I look at is the body of the car kit. "What will it be like to paint this body?" is the question I ask myself, especially as a handbrush painter.
Matt you can brush over the acrylic grill paint with pledge or its replacement to protect it from cracking/ drying out...its also good for headlight glue.😊
Just got into it today, and happen to buy THIS exact model! Been painting everything by brush and hand :/ dont have room for an airbrush setup right now.
Glad to see MCW paints around again. I know back in the day they had problems with it drying up. I still have a few bottles and with big clumps in them. Lol. Great paint to match the colors of Nascar back in the day.
Mark I use regular flat black testers or tamiya and thin it out pretty good .you can even let it dry. Then I take a pointy Q tip just like you have and did it in alcohol
Nice build. Love that color. Lol the first thing I do when I open a kit is see what parts I can rob off it for other cars then make up my mind if I need another for parts or what not. Good tip on fitting the bumpers and hood before painting. Its always good to sand a little off the hood edges to make room for paint build up
I typically check out the body first, mold lines, warping, etc. Then I check out the chrome and flash. Lastly, I check out the tires, not sure why but they seem to fascinate me. Looking forward to seeing this one completed. Have a great day.
Nice explanation. Another good one to try for blackwashing chrome parts is India ink, it's also water based so is easily removed and can be set with a short burst of matte clear.
Looking good love 67 impalas ….I bought two of these kits but one was a Plymouth when I open box 😂 now I have to get me another good thing they told me to keep the Plymouth and gave money back ….I just subbed your channel I’ll be watching part 2 👍🏻
Hi buddy I have that kit in my stash thanks for building it, if I have a kit with good chrome I give it a coat of 2k clear so when you black out grills etc the acrylic paint should not rub off easily once dry. Keep up this great channel 👍
Well done Matt! I did the same kit, SAME COLOR and all! But I didn't use black in the rims at all. Went a light gray instead. That is what I seen on most impalas when I looked them up. Still awesome job buddy! Will post mine on ur Facebook group sometime this week 👍🤘
Matt, you've timed this one well! I have had mine stashed away for several years now and realise it's going to need more work on it than I thought! I think it was an all new tool in 1997/98; that's when I bought mine and it is one of the high quality kits AMT was bringing out in that late 1990s period. I tend to check whether everything is intact and the color of the parts, e.g. when a red car is on the box and everything in the box is red, I know I've got my work cut out for me!
I bought my boyfriend this exact car model kit for an early christmas present. He really wanted to build Dean's car from supernatural (the 1967 Chevy Impala) and im glad you made this video. It's both of our first model kits :)
Mod Podge is great. It comes in gloss and flat so I checked different videos and they all used the gloss. It’s thicker more tacky than Elmers so your windows are less likely to shift or fall out during assembly.
Well dude that was my first full part 1 video of yours I've gotten to see and looks really good I enjoyed it!! I'll be waiting for part two excited to see the outcome you're a lot like me with paying attention to detail that's the fun of it is doing the best you can do peace and God bless ✌️🔧🔧🔧🇺🇸
Hey Matthew those MCW paints can be reduced with lacquer thinner just like testors enamels so they’ll dry almost immediately. Also those smaller parts instead of glueing pieces of sprue I melt the sprue piece just a little and put it in a hidden spot just like you and it pops right of afterwards.
Very cool, im building this same kit at the moment. I have heard of mod podge before, my wife is a school teacher and uses it for some crafts that the students make. I'm not sure why it's never occurred to me to try it before but thanks for showing us, I'll be using it on my Impala. 🍻
I usually like to look at the instructions first to get a good idea of what I'm going to look at. I got one of those kits as well. Trying to score every year Impala so I can and then build them in order. I have used MCW three times now and all of a sudden I can paint some contest cars. Go figure.
Late to the party...I have this and an earlier release from 96. The 67 is one of my fav Impalas, along with the 65. I'll probably build one stocvk and the other resto-mod.
When you are painting with metallic paint the metallic will move as it drys remember to paint in the same direction because if go one direction on the side and go another direction on the it will look like a different color.
Watched another of your videos and you said you were looking for suggestions for something new. How about the Wierd-ohs kits. I have been having a good time with them. They are made by Hawk. Keep up the good work.
Hi Matthew, I love your videos and the detailed information is great. When do you decide prime and paint versus just paint? You said you painted the frame without primer. I know the 2X paint says it doesn’t need primer but I always doubt that.
Picked up this kit to get back into the hobby after 30 years.. I’m struggling with the suspension assembly, many moving parts to hold at the same time. Any recommendations?
Gluing the suspension assembly before paint will help. Painted parts sometimes seem more slippery than sticky. Sometimes I choose to have fixed position wheels and if the axel assembly is plastic I may not have them roll. I have found that allowing all that movement weaken the joints in time.
I've watched quite a few of your Videos and I notice you don't use primer before painting. Any reason? When I tried that the paint chipped and wouldn't adhere properly to the body. Also when I prime and then lightly scuff the body, the final painting turns out really nice and flat.
If you have molded in head lights, try giving them a coat of Sally Hanson's hard as nails. Bad part is that you'll have to go into the womens nail polish section of store.
Watching technique is valuable and common sense narrative adds to learning. Thanks.
Thanks Rich!!

Alright!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
May sound funny but I usually go straight to the instructions. The 67 is one of AMT's better kits. Nice Video Matt!!! I'll be watching
Thanks Michael!!
i built that kit years ago & prostreeted it, one of my best build. .love your progress so far..
Using old sprue to hold stuff to paint is a great idea.
Great vid Matt! Yes sir, test fitting is a must! Looking Good!
Thanks Mark!!
Looking forward to seeing the color more in part 2 Matt!
👍🏻👍🏻
Loving this build mate!! Thanks for all your hard work filming and editing. ☺️👍

good video ! would be great to see more like this.

The AMT 67 is a nice modern kit that builds up well. The black taillight trim is challenging. Have fun building Matt.

I use the acrylic black myself for this exact purpose. I also thin it with water for panel lines.

I built that same model some months back. Turned out nice!
Built a couple of these, really nice kit, gonna try the Supernatural one next. Thanks for the great quality video's.
👍🏻👍🏻
I agree they look better when you paint the chrome grilles... They give the model a more realistic appearance.....
👍🏻👍🏻
Great video man, great tip on the stick for painting the parts

Mod podge, never heard of it, gonna get some. From the look of the bottle its a life time supply
Yep!!
@@modelcarvideos5829 This right here. :wink wink:
Believe it or not but wal mart carries mod podge in the craft department
@@davidwillis3913 thanks man appreciate it, I will look for it at Walmart

that looks pretty close if not close enough to factory blue
i like useing stainless steel spray paint on my muffer and pipes looks great
👍🏻👍🏻
I've found if I paint my exhaust red primer then dry brush it with a steel silver it'll make it look like kinda new pipes starting to rust over.

Cool Video Buddy, It's Looking REALLY GOOD So Far.Till Next Time, have a Blessed Week.

Great video dude!! I feel like I should try air brushing. Your paint comes out awesome!
Yes you should!!
Extra fine black sharpie or micron pen works best

Impressive details in this kit.... Not too many kits you see with a separate frame rather than the frame being molded in the chassis...
Rusr-oleum trim&bumper paint is very close to chase black that GM putts on there cars it is also called under the hood black .
Late to the party...I have this and an earlier release from 96. The 67 is one of my fav Impalas, along with the 65. I'll probably build one stocvk and the other resto-mod.
Paint looks great, Are they 1 oz bottles? How much paint did you have to use to paint the car? Thanks for your channel.

Matt, did you ever try Tamiyas flexible wet/dry sanding pads ? You can buy them as a kit . Whats nice is the pads conform to the body. I love em.
👍🏻👍🏻
A tip for you is if you use flat black or white use Walmart paint it's made by rustoleum anyway and it's only $1 a can
i wish my hands was steady like your i'm old
I know it's just a matter of time.

I only find it necessary to prime if it's the body.
Don’t worry I say modg Podg too!
Lol!!
is there any way you can make a straight front end for a 55 chevy or a 57 chevy thank you
Which mod podge do you like the best..? I seen yellow and orange label haven't seen the blue one like your using
I've only used the blue one. It works great but I don't know the difference.
What are the settings for your sprayer and compressor?
It just depends on what I'm shooting. Usually around 15psi

Back after 23 years
Picked up this kit to get back into the hobby after 30 years.. I’m struggling with the suspension assembly, many moving parts to hold at the same time. Any recommendations?
Super glue works faster but you'd better have them all where you want them. I use tamiya thin cement and a good set of angle tweezers.
Gluing the suspension assembly before paint will help. Painted parts sometimes seem more slippery than sticky. Sometimes I choose to have fixed position wheels and if the axel assembly is plastic I may not have them roll. I have found that allowing all that movement weaken the joints in time.

Actually I primed and sanded after primer. Yeah if I didn't prim it would look terrible.
