- Welcome to another Hawaii 100 Highest Peaks episode! We are climbing Lanipo peak this time, starting at Ka'au Crater trail, and making a loop with Mau'mae Ridge.
This route is less than 6 miles with over 3k feet of elevation gain.
Ka'au Crater trail is a beautiful trail through the jungle, leading by 3 different waterfalls all the way to top of the crater called Palikea peak. From there the KST crossover leads to another peak called Kainawa'anui, before it reaches Pu'ulanipo (Lanipo).
Enjoy the video!

Great effort, beautiful video! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thnak you my friend!
Thanks friend! I wont be hiking till next year...watching you will keep me motivated.
I am glad my videos can keep you motivated! Stay safe and Happy Holidays!
Nice hike. I always learn something new about this island through your videos. Mahalo
Mahalo Earl! I am happy I can always share some new information in my videos 🤙🏻
Nice, that looked like a good hike. Surprisingly, I’ve never done Ka’au Crater. I’ve always wanted to though. It doesn’t look like it would be too extreme for me.
Hey Bryan, I think you will be fine, just don’t go when it’s pouring rain.
It is a great hike with a lot of variety!
Great video!!
Will you be hiking True Lanipo anytime soon?
Do you mean Lanipo Windward? Most likely no.
:(
We did almost the exact same hike 2 weeks ago. We intended to do the Ka'au crater hike, but instead went to the crossover. The ridge pass between the peaks was scary for me, but I have fear of heights. It's interesting to see you hike it so relaxed.
Awesome! The crossover can be tricky when the wind is blowing and the “trail”
Is muddy. Glad you made it considering you have fear of heights! Next time will be easier 😜
Great video of Ka`au... pro cinematography. I need to try that crossover some time!
Thank You Todd! Those aerial shots definitley step up the video, but you know that already :)
You would like that crossover, but the weather lately so bad...
This is a great route. I accidentally went down the crossover between mau umea and ka'au. It wasn't fun going back up!
Haha, that is a steep one! Good work in that!
Awesome video, mate! Still haven’t done this 😂😂
Thanks mate! Are you kidding me? No Lanipo or no Kaau?
@@HungaroExplorer Haha, I've been to Lanipo, Palikea, Kainawa'anui, but not Kaau Crater loop *facepalm*
Well, it is never too late mate!
Maati sif te mati nafi ti
Not sure what that means, but I am sure you are liking the landscape :)
How did her socks stay white?
Haha, she is a master of technical terrain I guess 😀
