I was totally engaged for the entire eight-minute duration of the song. I love the innovative riffs and shifting rhythms, combined with stellar singing and superb song arrangements. This is the first song I've heard. This makes me want to hear more from this band.

Thanks for reaction to Ningen Isu, one of my favorites. The person who suggested them obviously has great taste. The ironic thing about the lyrics of this song, asking why he couldn't taste success, is that this song got them a lot of new fans in the West as it is easily their most successful RUclips video. But they have many great songs, not surprisingly, given they have released 23 albums over 30+ years.

I thought the sound was fine. Their main influence has always been Black Sabbath. These guys have been together over 30 years! Scat singing is a singing style of jazz from the early 2oth century where meaningless words are used; hence the title "Heartless Scat". The idea behind this song is that he is praying to deities from various cultures for happiness, and at the end he realizes he should be praying for everyone.

Parts of this song, particularly at 11:09, sound like unused music from Master of Reality (the end of "Into the Void"?), and the solo in this section sounds exactly like something Tony Iommi would perform.

It's just like the lyrics of this song, they were able to live with music thanks to this song. They love music, that's all. That's why I continued to live for a long period of time. It's a beloved band.🤘😎🇯🇵

Yes, you live life with failures and series of failures, but some people live life with very few successes, if any. Or love. I find the lyrics very relatable.

Ningen Isu, "Human Chair". Their name is the title of a tale by Edogawa Ranpo (if it sounds like Edgar Allan Poe, it's just your imagination lol). Basically it's the story of a man that impersonated as a couch, and would accomodate anyone accordingly when they sit over him. Nothing really macrabre, kinda some crazy fetish going on.
Dunno if it fits the band, but I love those guys. Just three dudes who love classic Heavy Metal that sticked together all these years, and only now they have had some recognition (bless the internet).
What blows my mind is that Ningen Isu has massive substance... It's perfectly composed and executed Metal. Those dudes love the genre too much🤘

    • @coffeeninja8128
      @coffeeninja8128 5 месяцев назад +2

Edogawa Ranpo was the pseudonym of writer Hirai Taro, the name was indeed meant as a 'japanization' of the name 'Edgar Allan Poe'

The "shababdaba" part is the "heartless scat". The point is the uselessness of prayer in desperation to imaginary deities. These guys, not only are they immensely talented musicians, but they are also excellent writers. Shinji Wajima and Kenichi Suzuki are avid readers of H.P. Lovecraft, Haruki Murakami, Edgar Alllen Poe and many other celebrated writers in Japanese history such as Osamu Dazai and Edogawa Rampo.

The part you pointed out where everything goes dark and he's basically praying is my favorite part of the song. Very doomy.

Thank you for your unusually thorough and detailed reaction. Most reactors either don't hear as much, or can't articulate it. With 34 years of recordings, Ningen Isu have a warren of music to explore. Maybe try _NINGEN ISU / The Colour out of Space (...)_ ruclips.net/video/1JY89ZxVqEg/видео.html (6m:30s) Some of their songs are based on literature. This is a HP Lovecraft story, which was made into films/movies several times (most recently 2019 starring Nicolas Cage). Ningen Isu are very underrated in the west.
_NINGEN ISU / Toshishun(with English lyric ver.)_ ruclips.net/video/tKSjWKDSBmo/видео.html (7m:48s) is a dark song _"Based on the Ryūnosuke Akutagawa retelling of the old Chinese tale of Toshishun"_ The video has a thorough explanation of the story in a comment by @joan4p704. The glorious outro reminds me of Wishbone Ash (a British band from the '70s).
    Best Wishes. ☮

@@Cheezyxyz Thank you for replying. I try to help reactors whenever I enjoy their reaction. This is the first one of yours YT recommended. You either heard more, or are more articulate than most reactors. So I'm interested. You appear to have reacted to many of the very popular "YT artists". For variety, maybe consider sprinkling in:
Dirty Loops - three Swedes combining, Funk, Pop, Jazz and Fusion - bass, drums, keyboards instead of guitar
_Dirty Loops - Rock You_ ruclips.net/video/gYc5zrXC52k/видео.html (4min 30sec then credits) 'Pop' music could have been this
_Dirty Loops & Cory Wong - Thriller_ ruclips.net/video/m34byl2BT1o/видео.html (5min then credits & Easter eggs) MJ cover
_Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out_ ruclips.net/video/r_GTgpdoCh0/видео.html (about 7min, so a bit long to start, but popular)
Probably the best cover so far this millennium (and I'm not a big Eminem fan):
_Kasey Chambers - Lose Yourself (Eminem Cover) LIVE @ Civic Theatre, Newcastle AU_
      ruclips.net/video/S70xek3x4ro/видео.html (8min)
A cover worth keeping for Christmas:
_Jacob Collier - The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)_ ruclips.net/video/o9CusMKhoqk/видео.html (5m:49s) Mostly Acappella.
The most comforting song I know, is very sweet and gentle:
      _Jacob Collier - Little Blue | ‪@MahoganySessions‬_ ruclips.net/video/IQvzX0Z3HE4/видео.html (7m:53s)
Jacob Collier invited fans who could get to the venue later that same day to sing. They met, learned the song, rehearsed and performed in about 2 hours.
If you enjoy young musicians, try this, the musicians are 9yo-16yo, it's for none-profit 'KIDS ROCK FOR KIDS':
_KIDS ROCK FOR KIDS Global Collab - Hysteria (by Muse)_ ruclips.net/video/ApgUpGS6kAE/видео.html (3m:55s)
It is _better_ than faultless. Their improvements are subtle enough that most people might need to hear it 'side by side' with the original.
If kids enjoying playing music make you smile, I strongly recommend my drumming hero:
_Good Times Bad Times - LED ZEPPELIN / Cover by Yoyoka , 8 year old_ ruclips.net/video/91pz1E8pAOY/видео.html (2m:57s) She _really_ enjoys drumming (Drummer World named her one of the best 500 drummers in the world when she was 11yo; 1 of 17 females)
People often think of children at Christmas, so it might be worth considering reacting then.
You might enjoy Snarky Puppy; Jazz/Funk/World ensemble of top class musicians but they are mostly no vocals.
_Snarky Puppy - We Like It Here_ ruclips.net/p/PL52RKVKBFM328OwddSMRQS9BYOA3oVDgl
That's their playlist for their album. It's recorded in an unusual way, live with an audience in a studio.
      Best Wishes. ☮

"Heartless Scat" - Jazz scat - Meaningless gibberish. Fairly dark song. The "Shabadabadia" portion is the meaningless gibberish. What is the story of a man who feels that he's accomplished nothing and that all of his pleas to be loved and heard are nothing but meaningless gibberish.
