  • Flying a 1000km is a big dream for every glider pilot. But you need to stay up in the air for a long time to cover that distance, often more than 10 hours.
    See here my personal story and the background why flying so long. Be sure to watch till the end, you won't regret it!
    My flight went over some of the best gliding spots in Germany. The Bavarian Forest, Thuringian Forest and also the Erz Mountains (Erzgebirge).

      Yes exactly! You can learn so much when not accomplishing your goals. And if you see it as chance to learn instead of a loss, it helps to improve your skills. I am really happy about that flight, even if my long-term goal still is unachieved 😀. Thank you for your comment 😀👍

    I'm not going to lie, I was a bit surprised when I saw your chart. Most Aviation based Videos I watch tend to be like, American, or Internation, never expected to stumble into an Video taking place in my home Region. Sorry to see it didn't quite work out, but good luck for future attempts and best of wishes from Freiburg.

      Thank you, this is a very good question! Probably worth an own video!
      To me it figured out over the years that on such long flights I do best with bread and butter inside and apples when it comes to food. That does not make me tired at some point.
      Water: have lots of it with me, drinking is very important!
      Restrooms: there are different ways, I prefer to use the same equipment like incontinent people 😂😂 - one of my next videos will cover that topic 😀. Thank you for your comment!

    can you fly from Albania crossing the Adriatic sea to Italy with a glider? or is it to far

    • @RudisGlidingAdventures
      @RudisGlidingAdventures  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi! There have been flights made along the adriatic coast during strong notheasterly winds. That triggered waves in which Slovenian pilots were able to fly till Albania (and back btw), reaching several thousands of metres of altitude. I could imagine then crossing the adriatic sea with tailwind until Italy. Presently some glider pilots are using this technique to fly from France to korsika and sardinia and further to Italy. So I am pretty sure that from a metereological point of view it should be possible.
      What I don't know if there are any small airfields in Albania with gliders and glider pilots? Do you know any? I am be curious about that 😃

    Can’t u know real time how much distance has been covered?

    • @RudisGlidingAdventures
      @RudisGlidingAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Good question. In the aftermath I discovered a method to figure that out, even if it still is not accurate. There are navigation computers on the market, who calculate the distance in real time, but I don't have such a device on board. My program on the mobile supports it, but it does not know when I released from the tow (the distance starts to count at that point), so there is still an uncertainty.

    Alleine im Zweisitzer? Wie ist da die Performance im Vergleich zum Einsitzer?

    • @RudisGlidingAdventures
      @RudisGlidingAdventures  2 года назад +2

      Gute Frage. Der Duo Discus ist bei uns im Verein das leistungsstärkste Gerät und sämtliche FAI Leistungsabzeichen sind einsitzig zu fliegen. Abgesehen davon gibt es kaum Leute, die so lange mitfliegen wollen :-) - daher fliege ich da alleine 😀

    ja, man lässt sich oft von den dunklen ausgebreiteten Würsten auf Erzgebirge oder Thüringer aufhalten und sucht die Sonne - aber die Wolken stehen da halt nicht ohne Grund=Hebung.

    • @RudisGlidingAdventures
      @RudisGlidingAdventures  2 года назад

      Danke! Ja das nächste Mal werde ich mich nicht davon abschrecken lassen 😀 - bei diesem Flug kam dazu, dass ich eben schon bei Cham mit zwar gutaussehenden, aber schlecht gehenden Wolken konfrontiert war. Ich dachte eher daran, dass halt von Osten Feuchte reindrückt und habe dann vermutet, dass es am Erzgebirge ähnlich schlecht gehen wird. Falsche Annahme 😀. Dazu kommt, dass ich noch nicht so oft im Erzgebirge geflogen bin, da fehlt ein bisserl die Erfahrung.
      Danke für deinen Kommentar!

      @@RudisGlidingAdventures meiner Ansicht nach ist der Sonnenwinkel entscheidend. Kritisch wird es, wenn die Sonne Parallel zu den Würsten steht, z.B. spät abends im Bayerwald (Sonne fast im NW). Alb geht dagegen Nachmittags auch mit schweren Abschattungen meistens besser als man denkt. Man sieht sich

    I suggest not to be obsessed by numbers: it's the only way to ruin a beautiful flight😂
    P. S. Numerus stat ex parte materiae
    P. S. #2: Golf is a good walk spoiled

    • @RudisGlidingAdventures
      @RudisGlidingAdventures  2 года назад +2

      😀 i got your point, thank you! I am not obsessed, i think i have shown that i was really happy about that flight anyway at the end.
      But i like to set goals to achieve, they help me to keep motivated to improve my gliding - of course they never should lead to disappointments. But it is not in my case, don't worry.
      The other way round, i have unfortunately seen a lot of other pilots, not setting personal goals who quitted gliding sooner or later - also not a good thing.
