  • Like model Grace Jones, model Patrick Juvet easily stepped into his dancing shoes and began his career as a disco recording act. Born August 21, 1950 in Montreux, Switzerland he began studying the piano at age 7 and loved the Beatles.
Moving to Paris in 1968 when he was 18, penniless when a friend sent him to Germany to begin a modeling career and after two years, he returned to Paris where he met producer Eddie Barclay. He began to collaborate with electronic artist Jean Michel Jarre and in 1977 released his biggest hit "Ou Sont Les Femmes" sung in french. The title translates in to "Where Are The Women", but the english version changed it to the more mournful "Where Is My Woman" one time the translation did not help. Chasing women is a national pastime in France, so a song about finding where they hide out was something they could relate to. Heartbreak had nothing to do with the sexy electronic beats that Jarre had created for Juvet.
Juvet went on to record with the producers of the Village People, Henri Belolo and Jacques Morali with "I Love America" and "Got A Feeling". "Où Sont Les Femmes" was re-recorded in English in 1978 on Casablanca but failed to gain an audience.

Jarre tended to write the words for Juvet’s songs, rather than the music. Both very talented guys.

@@chockergram sorry to contradict, Clive, but that sounds unlikely. I'll check my Juvet vinyls, however DiscoCat writes in the description of this here video: "the sexy electronic beats that Jarre had created for Juvet. "

His affection for producer Jean Michel Jarre was never answered but it brought Juvet to the attention of Jacques Morali ( who made history with the Village People ). Their meeting resulted in unforgettable masterpieces as Got a feeling, I love America and Lady Night ! Love this rework by the way !

A couple of months ago I watched a documentary about Patrick Juvet on TV. Quite an interesting person he was. His disco songs are some of the best dancefloor-tunes ever recorded. Ou sont les femmes and I love America I personally think are awesome. A pity to know he struggled with his bisexuality. Rest in peace.

Very popular song at the time here in Québec. I haven't heard it in ages. Thanks for digging this one out. By the way some parts the bass line sound a bit like the ones in the song "Blind" by "Hercules & love affair". Anyone else hear it?

Here is some trivia .. he represented Switzerland in the 1973 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Luxembourg. I believe he finished in the middle. If I'm not mistaken,he passed away about 2 years ago. GLad you use the French version.. I'm a fan of using the mother tongue.
