It was the band's last album with drummer Tim Alexander before he rejoined Primus 7 years later, and then again in 2013. It was certified gold in July 1995 after selling 500,000 units. Tales from the Punchbowl was nearly as successful as their previous album "Pork Soda", and peaked at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, making it Primus' second-highest chart position. It is also the band's last studio album to be certified gold.
