  • Our mission: Pursue health, well-being, and social justice for and with communities through nationally-renowned teaching and research, practical applications of knowledge, and authentic partnerships inspired by our Jesuit tradition and identity.
    The Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice is the only academic unit of its kind, studying social, environmental and physical influences that together determine the health and well-being of people and communities. It also is the only accredited school or college of public health among nearly 250 Catholic institutions of higher education in the United States. Guided by a mission of social justice and focus on finding innovative and collaborative solutions for complex health problems, the college offers nationally recognized programs in public health and health administration.

    I also experienced a lot of students who had a mission to be doing public health as

    a service. Students were very engaged and that stood out.

    There are opportunities working with communities, in community.

    Students and faculty and staff have relationships built on trust within the community that allow you

    to learn things in a hands-on way that isn't in all university or college settings and

    in public health that's so important, it's so integral to the work that you're doing.

    When I was out in public-health practice, working in a local health department,

    Saint Louis University was the place that treated you like a partner, they've cared.

    I don't think that's something that you always experience with other academic institutions.

    I think a lot of them do come to SLU because they are interested in that type of engagement.

    I selected the school because I really felt like the professors really were invested

    in my career and really understanding what I was hoping to do post-graduation.

    For the next generation of scholars and whether you're a masters or doctoral or

    undergrad I think you want to always expose them to what researchers are doing because then it

    allows them to see their own place too, in the ecosystem of what it is we do in public health.

    I'm a graduate assistant for the Center of Excellence

    in Maternal and Child Health, so I've been able to get really close

    to the faculty who are doing that kind of research and really expand my skill set.

    We have students who do internships throughout the country.

    I was working on projects in class with students who were

    actively VPs or directors for non-profits in the city.

    It was also a very positive school culture. It

    really made you feel like you were at home and inspired you to do your best.

    They value networking and relationships, that absolutely moves your career forward.

    I really felt very well equipped to enter the workforce.

    I definitely feel that I'm being set up for success here.

    To see them kind of form into the leaders that they're going to become

    and get to ride along for that is pretty amazing.
