    I suggest that William build a bench seat at the rear of the corn wagon so he and Brenda can ride around the field instead of walking. A step at the rear would also be helpful so Brenda doesn't slip getting in. Little things make a difference! I 've had to balance standing up on hay wagons as a boy to know it is tiring and isn't easy. Legs ache at the end of the day with muscles that don't get used as often.

    • @angelpony1657
      @angelpony1657 11 месяцев назад

      If a bench was put in at the back of the wagon-they’d be getting Beaned El Royale with corn cobs-Yikes!!!
      Maybe more toward the front of the wagon-at the sides???

    I really enjoyed the corn picking! It brought back a lot of memories. We have a New Idea two row picker that we pulled with a old John Deere tractor about 15-20 years ago. I remember riding the gravity wagon with the kids. As we rode along we'd shuck the ears that didn't get shucked by the picker. It was a lot of simple fun.

    The corn picker is awesome except when it bogs down. William did a fine job bringing the horses and load of wood out! You all certainly have had a lot of rain this year. If all that moisture keeps up this winter, you're going to have lots of snow. The winter forecast for Tennessee is below normal temperatures with above normal moisture. So that means we may be in for a lot of snow here in Tennessee too. Hoping they're wrong. I don't like cold and especially don't like snow.

    In the old days they sure made some interesting machinery, eg the bale chucker and the corn elevator, both neatly designed to knock you over or bonk you on the head. Jim also seems to spend a lot of time fixing things as old bits wear out. Story of his life I guess, takes it all in his stride.

    Ran our farm for 25 years with Herfords, only we used vintage tractors and equipment much like you use. Enjoyed it all ,but didn't make much money. Thankfully we were otherwise employed. Don't know how you and your wife do it. So many irons in the fire at once. Guess maybe that doesn't give you a lot of time to contemplate that ! Your videos really take me back. That tongue is a pretty chintzy looking hack job for working in the bush. Heavier tube for heavier work.

    That's quite a big field to be picked with horse-drawn machinery, but as one can see it can be done- by the way much more cheaply than with a combine. Of course, it still requires the shelling. And also, it's a much more picturesque scene, and that also is important for human happiness.

    The horses in the cornfield with that beautiful blue sky... oh my! Are you going to turn the cattle into the corn field once it is picked, so they can eat the stalks? I'm really curious about the layout of that barn, and what the different areas were actually built for. I'm guessing the shed that the horses are in must have been for heifers or something? I can see there is a feed bunk facing the opposite way of what the horses are facing now. That would not have been a convenient place to milk, unless the barn had an actual milk parlor. Is that blue room where the cows and calves are a bullpen, or was it a place to raise bottle calves? That must have been a really large dairy operation in its day.

    I suggested this on another channel and I was obliged. Would you put your wedding picture or two in one video. Smiles B

    Watching your other videos I have understood that the verbal cues for the horses are critical to being able to drive them. This makes me wonder how you're able to effectively direct the horses when there's the loud motor running just by you. Do you yell and do the horses understand that or do you use non-verbal cues instead?

    Everything is coming together. Good luck in synchronizing your cattle breeding. Don’t remember seeing your herd bull. Do you rent or buy your bulls? Thank you for sharing. 🐴🐴🐴

    The OPEN area underneath Jim's seat on the cart where he puts his feet and the Motor and belts / fly wheels underneath and close behind. Also the open gear box spinning the corn out.. looks to me like an accident waiting to happen..
