I have always thought coulters helped cut the sod, however sometimes they hold cornstalks and make it hard to clean out. The first one is attached to the 3 point drawbar the rest to the frame of the plow on this model. Someone else might have more experience.

I acquired a JD plow just like this but mine does not have the sod cutting wheels , are they necessary ? I cant see yours.

we call those sod cutting wheels..."colters"...and they definitely help make a better, cleaner job....not sure i would say necessary
