Hi everyone! On this special hour-long edition of the Midweek Ramble, I take you on a journey of transformation as I share my process behind over-dyeing two of my own hand-knit sweaters. It’s my first time doing this and the anxiety is real, however the journey and the outcome is well worth the time it takes to see it through. I so hope you join me for this. ❤
Thanks for this long video about over-dyeing garments. I have two cashmere sweaters I’m pondering over as to their colours not being quite right for me. I’ve not dyed anything for 30 years so your two videos have been timely for me, both for the colour theory refresh and dyeing techniques. I’m relieved to know that the anxiety exists for an experienced yarn dyer so I needn’t feel bad about it myself. I’m going to do a bit more research and try with one of them.
That was fascinating. What beautiful results you achieved. I especially love that rich blue. That's my favorite color to wear. Thank you for taking us along with you. We'll done, Tayler.
Tayler, you mention bringing the water to temp. What is that temp? I know it is not supposed to boil but not sure what it should be. Also, can you recommend info for blends and plant fibers? After seizing this I want to try to fix a summer top. The variegated sweater turned out so well it really gives me hope. I do love that blue and myvarigated yarn is in blues so who knows...
Hello! I was going through a kind of anxiety crisis tonight. I took my needles and watched your video. It was soo relaxing and interesting and I just focused on every steps and I just want to thank you for this video and the amazing colors you get but also for all your previous ones and their quality. I learn a lot by looking at them but they also keep my mind calm and focus. Thank you so much!
Amazing and fascinating!! Thanks for taking us along, Tayler. What incredible results and the glimpse we got of your smile at the very end (with the dark blue sweater) - no words needed. 👏👏Also want to comment on the video overall - very well done, nicely edited and I really like the addition of that background music throughout. ❤
INCREDIBLE!! The production of the video was every bit as good as the production of the beautiful over-dyes. Thank you for being so generous with your process - anxiety and all.
Wow ❤. I really love the orange/rust colour. The blue sweater, gives me the idea, that you can knit a sweater in a light tone, and then transfer it to the colour you desired. I don’t think, that there is anyone, that loves knitting in dark colours, such as black. Thank you for sharing 🧶
Wow! Both sweaters are beautiful. I can’t believe the difference. You would never know the blue sweater started out pink. I admit I liked the variegated sweater as it was but LOVE the result of the over dye and how it toned it down in that respect. I also love the color - I’m partial to autumn colors. Bravo!
Wow. That was amazing! I'm so happy for you. They turned out so great! I loved watching that process. I don't think I would take it on myself but I'm a process kinda person and loved watching it happen.
Amazing!! So interesting to see you do this. The sweaters are beautiful and your video was soooo entertaining and educational. Thanks very much and congrats on the beautiful sweaters!
This has been fascinating to watch - and I say this as a person who has no desire to dye anything! (I'm also a person who spins yarn occasionally who has no interest in watching people talk about spinning :-)) Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I can imagine there will be many people who benefit from this great tutorial.
Wow I’m so amazed at how the orange/brown one turned out! It looks so even now and the splotch in the middle is not even visible anymore, you must be so happy with them now. Well done, very interesting to see!❤
These are sooo beautiful, love this burned orange and this deep peacock navy blue.. You nailed it!! Great job and now, I am obsessed 🙈 hello from Germany and Nana :)
Good job! Both sweaters are beautiful! I do not have the facilities to over-dye any of my less-than-desirable knits. However, you got me thinking that maybe I will just unravel them and use the wool for another pattern. Double the joy, right? I would also be interested in seeing the Lucky Strike you created with the leftover dye.
They are both so beautiful - just stunning. The orange one is my favorite. This was so much work and you took us along - what a treat you have given us. Thank you so much! Great job👏👏👏👏👏
WOW, that was amazing!! You must be so excited!! Beautiful hand knit sweaters even more perfect than before. Thanks for sharing the process. Really fun to watch.
I enjoyed seeing your art room and all the dyes. Most of all the process is quite lengthy. Anyway your finished projects turned out yummy. That blue is grand!
Both came out wonderfully! What a process, though. I was nervous for you, too. I thought I'd like the blue one because peacock blue is just one of those magpie colors for me, but that rust is phenomenal! Thanks for sharing this tense and time consuming production. It was worth the hour to watch and the hours it took to make.
Wow Tayler do you just love the results. I love those colors in you. I liked the sweaters before, but now…. They are amazing. Thanks for taking us along on the journey
Amazing colors that are close to my heart. I appreciate that you are giving us ideas about how to change the colors of already finished garments to turn them into something we love.
WOW! These turned out so beautiful!! I am obsessed with that blue. I may or may not need to try my hand at yarn dyeing, because I'm not driving my husband nuts enough yet 😆
Fantastic! The colours are gorgeous and totally transform your sweaters. They are NEW and FRESH items you've just added to your wardrobe. Always love watching and learning from you!
WOW!! Love both sweater colors! So glad you decided to share this video with us. I have a knit sweater I don't wear because a small area pooled, (of course in the front). Your video is just the encouragement I need to give the sweater new life. Thanks for sharing it!
Omg!!! ❤ They both look amazing. The colors are so rich. That red screams HOT MAMA 😍 I love that you did this and brought us on ur nerve wrecking journey. Your just amazing in so many different ways. Keep up the great work I’m here for it ALL
The new colors are exquisite. You did an amazing job of the coloring and or course the knitting. These new colors make the sweaters even more beautiful.
Ahhh!!!🎉 They both turned out so well! I love how you can see how happy you are when you put your navy sweater on 🥰 Such a great feeling. Amazing job, and such great information with the video ❤️
I just finished watching this video and omg, the sweaters are stunning!!! You really made some kind of magic trick and it was so fascinating to watch! Also thank you for that little glimpse in the dyeing process, tht was really interesting!😍
BRAVO!!! Now that's a reality episode. I had to remember to breathe.😊 The new colors r perfect. I really hope ur expectations were met. I luv the new colors. So glad to see all the labor and time involved with just dying. Now I won't complain too much for more $. I can see why many dyers make neutral colors. They aren't brave like u. I didn't realize how labor intensive it is to just get from shearing to hank. Thanks for sharing.
What an awesome episode.. loved learning about the dyeing process! I adore the russet colour! I have a cream non-sw tee & I'm keen to try this out.. just have to source some dye here in Aussie land. Thanks for all the fab content, Tayler 🙌
Well, that is nothing short of spectacular. The colors are so beautiful. I couldn't see your face but I could see your smile in the way you showed off the final products. Thank you! I really enjoyed this!
Fabulous results! You’re a magician 😊. Thanks so much for this very interesting video. I loved following the whole process, including your explanation around the colors wheel. I’m not a dyer (yet) but so tempted. And even more tempted after this video, although I know I need to learn quite a bit. Thank you! I just regret not seeing your happy face at the end!
obSEEEESSSSSSSSED!!!! Getting to see this whole process was so cool!!! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see the final results and would not FF to the end to spoil it. The final colors are GORGEOUS! I def also want to see how that Lucky Strike yarn came out! 🍀 ❌
Aaaah those turned out GREAT!! I like how the "flashing" on the rust one toned down so it's really not visible, and that dark navy one is just GORGEOUS! Thanks for making a point that doing this slowly is 24 hours (ish) NOT like 2, LOL. That would be me with a splotchy mess. Makes me want to go through the sweaters I have that i don't love the colors of. YAY! Thanks again!
Lol! That ‘small baby’ comment was too funny! 😂 I just wanted you to know, Taylor - I did not take it wrong. 😊 And the sweaters turned out beautifully!
SO gorgeous! The sweaters were lovely before, but oh my, the rich colors you dyed! I prefer dark/saturated colors....just gorgeous! Makes me want to check my closet for something to try this!
These are beautiful, before and after, Missus Earl. Thanks for sharing, even if I did a double-take when I realized the video is much longer than your standard.
This video is amazing. I love how detailed you are with your explanations to make these things easy to understand for people of all skill levels. Not to mention, I am equally obsessed with that peacock blue color 🤩 thanks for sharing!
Well done! Those turned out fabulously!! I could tell how stressed and worried your were about this project but they really are stunning in the finished shot! Congratulations 🎉. I loved this video. It was fun to see how you went through the process and how you worked through the potential challenges. Educational and entertaining. Thank you
Oh, Tayler--these turned out SOOooo Gorgeous! They look exactly like you wanted and I bet you are thrilled! Fantastic job. Thanks for sharing your process!
