This is beautifully put together! Congrats. I had zero idea about Brookings! I lived in Oregon for a while and while I did visit the fort in northern Oregon, I never spent much time in Brookings and regret it now. This is great! Thank you!

So interesting. My father was a “Gunner” stationed in California to protect the coast against an enemy invasion. This piece of history made it all make sense to me as to my he was stationed in the USA!
Thanks again for another great episode. Keep them coming.

Hi John, what an interesting story about the submarines and airplanes. I had no idea this happened. Its amazing how the airplane which dropped the 'fire-bomb' didn't ignite properly, and they were able to get to the start of the fire quickly, and that the gentlemen had been in the Fire watch tower and observed what they saw. I am looking forward to more "Curious History" as you present it, and information like this needs to be taught in school, as the subject matter is fascinating. I hope you all are well, and if you go back out on the road to film, please be careful, and may God continue to bless you and your family! 🙂 Thank you again, for another wonderful video. Lewis

Even with the technology the USA has today I would say that there are undetected enemy subs around our country today . Your great video is a prime example of never letting our guard down! We are always looking forward to your next video. Much knowledge to be learned from You guys. Thanks!!!

Love the video. Thank you! I remember learning about the failed attempt of creating a forest fire by the Japanese, but not of anything else you presented. That surprised me. I love learning about history no matter where or when. And, like you mentioned, most Americans believe we haven't had any mainland bombings other than pearl harbor and 9/11. Is this something they don't like to talk about maybe? Thanks for the video and information. Well done!

Awesome video of mostly unknown history of WWII. Have read about these incidents numerous times in various books/magazines. Also, concerning the first incident, have read that the captain of the Japanese submarine used to be a worker at that oil well/refinery. If I remember correctly, he was either FIRED from the job or got into a fight with an American co-worker. Either way, he "lost face" and volunteered his submarine for this particular mission. He was eager to gain revenge at his old job by firing his deck gun at the facility.
Also, late in the war, the Japanese built submarines that were large enough to carry 3 float planes. There were plans to send a task force of these submarines to the West Coast and the Panama Canal to conduct bombing missions. Nothing came about for the war ended. If I remember correctly, a task force of 3 submarines were actually en route to the Panama Canal when they were ordered to return home to Japan because the war ended.

Not just very interesting but while watching this I feel as if I were going through some great audio book! John, great content! A content that shows much of universal peace, love and friendship! I watch this video end to end without lifting my eyes! Without a slight nod to see my surroundings! I am amazed and I can sense a beautiful feeling of love deep in my heart about this great man.
The Japanese pilot who thought that it was all over and returned to his submarine and ultimately to his home base had to come again to the spot of his destruction two decades later. God had great plan for him!
And it is this plan that may have changed his course of life. Instead of spending his life on attractive military pension he becomes the embodiment for peace and friendship. Great content, John!
