The kingpin in the other truck is solid and doesn't move so I'm assuming that's the case of the sound. Do you think I need a replacement?
It's possible that the kingpin is what's making that sound. It could also be the bushings are sticky and grip the kingpin and when it finally unsticks and slides it makes a popping/snapping/cracking sound. As long as your trucks work fine, it shouldn't be a problem unless you've noticed something cracked or broken on your trucks. This can also be caused by the top bushing's washer moving under the nut, banging on the kingpin from side to side every time you lean. This can be caused by a hole in the washer being too big and/or washer being a loose fit on the bushing.

You're gonna have to hold the kingpin from both sides . If your kingpin nut is so worn down to the point where the socket on your skate tool cant firmly hold onto it, you'll have to use some kind of visegrip or a clamp so you can get a solid hold on the nut while you loosen it. 👍 I hope that helps! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop If all else fails, I guess one can use an angle grinder to grind off the nut and the top of the kingpin off (I would approach in the direction that is perpendicular to the axle). This will most likely damage the top bushing and washer.
If you can find a wrench or socket that's just slightly bigger, like a 5/8" or a 16mm wrench, you should be able to get it over the mashed nut. Or just use something like a crescent wrench or a visegrip and then just clamp down on the nut super hard. I hope you find a solution! - Tim
How hard are you smacking it and what are you using for a nail set? Also, is your nailset wider than the hole in the baseplate? If the broken piece is sticking out, you don't need the nailset until it's flush with the hole in the baseplate. It's more important to hit the kingpin VERY HARD and squarely than it is to smack it a bunch of times. As soon as you can get it to move a little bit, it becomes easier. But yeah, getting the kingpin out can definitely be difficult. I hope you can get it out! - Tim
@@khaloof.m If the whole kingpin is sticking out, then it should be pretty easy to smack it out because you can just hit the kingpin directly instead of having to use a nailset. If you don't want to fully replace it, you'll have to clean up the threads on the kingpin with a 3/8" inch die with 24 threads per inch. 👍

Me personally I just had that problem over the last 2 days and although this comment is from a year ago, I'd like to share that what worked for me was using the kingpin nut part of a skate tool from the underside, *really* cramming it into the bottom of the truck, and then using a vice grip on the actual nut also held *really* tightly.
How do I take off a Kingpin nut that is worn out
If your kingpin nut is so worn down to the point where the socket on your skate tool cant firmly hold onto it, you'll have to use some kind of visegrip or a clamp so you can get a solid hold on the nut while you loosen it. 👍 I hope that helps! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop If all else fails, I guess one can use an angle grinder to grind off the nut and the top of the kingpin off (I would approach in the direction that is perpendicular to the axle). This will most likely damage the top bushing and washer.
Earplugs? You have got to be sitting me.
I think you might need to replace your 10yr old bushings there, boss.
I would like to replace an entirely new baseplate for the truck.
My kingpin isn’t broken but I can’t fit a tool on the bolt
If you can find a wrench or socket that's just slightly bigger, like a 5/8" or a 16mm wrench, you should be able to get it over the mashed nut. Or just use something like a crescent wrench or a visegrip and then just clamp down on the nut super hard. I hope you find a solution! - Tim
This does not reflect reality, at least for thunder trucks.. It is almost impossible.
I could never get my Thunder kingpin out, and now I'm having the exact same problem with Ventures 🥲
My kingpin isn't even moving I've hit it for an hour and nothing it's thunder hollows and the broken piece won't budge
- Tim
Get a bigger hammer! :D
Damn I did it very wrong 4 yrs ago that I ended breaking the baseplate in two😅.
how do i hammer my kingpin if the head is sticking out unlike in this video
If the kingpin you want to remove is still sticking out a little, you can just smack the kingpin directly which makes it a lot easier. 👍 - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop the whole kingpin is sticking out, the top of it just doesn’t let the nuts go in at all, what’s the solution for this ?
@@khaloof.m If the whole kingpin is sticking out, then it should be pretty easy to smack it out because you can just hit the kingpin directly instead of having to use a nailset. If you don't want to fully replace it, you'll have to clean up the threads on the kingpin with a 3/8" inch die with 24 threads per inch. 👍
@@tacticsboardshop thanks for the help
@@tacticsboardshop Hey man. I’ve got a kingpin that’s fully sticking out but it’s slanted to the left causing my board to move left when it moves. Would it be possible to hammer it out then re insert it properly? Idk what counts as bent but the kingpin is fine apart from the slight slant to the left.
Yeah I'm buying new trucks
My bolt is stripped
I wanna know what shoes the guy in the intro wears

Tactics Boardshop thanks I might get a pair soon I’d there any other shoe recommendations? Preferably some with good impact support?
The Busenitz Pro's actually have super good impact protection! Some other shoes that come to mind would be the Etnies Marana, Etnies Joslin or Joslin 2, Adidas 3ST.004, Adidas Tyshawn Pro, New Balance 1010, Nike Dunks, éS Accel Slim & OG, Lakai Atlantic, or any of the FootPrint shoes. There's more but those were just a few that came to mind. Cheers! - Tim
