      If you've had a stiff stick for a considerable amount of time you will definitely need it softening up!

  • @DaveysStuff

    Right, stiff stick softened up and apart from the plastic giggle pin being a tad obstinate, everything works as it should.
    All seriousness, video was extremely detailed the walk through helped me really well.
    Cheers, Dave

      This would be the starting point. Do this to make sure it is correctly adjusted then see. If still the same or you feel more play by the stick then you need to examine the parts there for wear and replace. If still no improvement then change oil. If still nothing then the gearbox will need changing or rebuilding :-)

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 года назад

    I changed the gearbox and stirring stick.
    But it became a bit harsh when changing the stick from one speed to another.
    The speeds have become much better and each speed has its place, but the new stick feels harsh.
    is this normal?

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  10 месяцев назад +1

      If you changed the gearbox oil as well then this could be why as new oil is often thicker, but will get better with age. Or the new setup it just near and tighter than before :-)

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Год назад

      Have you tried turning the engine off, does it free up? If yes then you have clutch drag. Try moving the car backwards a bit to see if it goes in. Is there excessive release bearing noise?

    • @laurencehodgson8933
      @laurencehodgson8933 Год назад

      @@HatBoyHarvey yes it does get marginally easier however those two gears are still notchy and hard to place easily. There is a slight whistle from the release bearing yes.

    Thanks.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Год назад +1

      No harm in doing this to eliminate it, but don't forget the part the clutch plays here too, that has to release the plate from the flywheel. a worn clutch can stick causing the gears not to engage properly. can be the plates or the slave might need bleeding/replacing.

  • @noel5ilv3rlake

    Got 2 manual, one is pretty 20 yrs old TTQ and another is S1 2016 I’m so nervous to bleed the clutch because I have difficulty to loosen the bleed nipple😅, I’m not a mechanic but I did bleed all the brakes last weekend with power bleeder ( Motive) and I wish the new fluid also circulate to clutch system slowly too😂 is it possible?
    Yeah sometimes I have a bit issue with shifting to 1st gear and reverse on S1 after stop lights but I guess I need a bit adjustment, I did on TT some but not yet to S1, it seems that I need to learn more to make it easier ! Need 9mm long socket I guess :)
    your vid give a clue ! thanks

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can use a power bleeder, I do with great results. If you break the slave, no worries, replacement is cheap and easy on this model (not easy on models with concentric slave) it should improve things, just have to take battery holder out for better access. If you have never bled that slave then it will likely improve by doing so. Check which type of slave for your model :-)

    Hi Harvey! all of your videos are very helpful especially for old fabia owners , i have the same problem with my 1.4 mpi but whatever i try not fix it. Finaly after few abjustments only reverse still is hard to fit. A mechanic check it and said that i have to replace all the gear lever system (lever ball etc.) and the cost be a little high. I found that is just a plastic ring at the left of gear lever right next to the ball, that is broken and missed (at 7:50) .I cant find this ring but only full set that is quite expensive. I hope you understand what i mean and be very helpful if you have a source to order it. Greetings from Greece

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 года назад +1

      Most are associated with door electrics, central locking, locks, power windows and control gear which wear naturally over time with use, so older model suffer most until stuff gets renewed. Drivers door is the most used so I would replace that door lock first if you start getting issues. Also replace the brake pedal switch was that also causes early issues. also I hear the transmission when shifting while driving... old or not enough tran fluid? or clutch becoming bad?

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 года назад +1

      The noise will probably be the release bearing which means a new clutch, but don't worry they will continue to work for a long time with the noise (no easy fix for that other than replace) also you maybe right with trans fluid so worth a check on the level. I'll do a video on that soon :-)

    Gear shaft of my 2007 Skoda Fiba 1.4 Diesel makes some noise most of the times when at neutral position but that noise goes away once clutch is pressed down. Only sometimes it doesn’t make that noise. What do you think why is that and is it an easy fix?

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 года назад

      This is the clutch release bearing and will need replacing at some stage, but don't worry they can continue functioning noisily for a long time. To replace it the gearbox will need to be removed so a new clutch assembly is done at the same time. Not an easy fix, just something to be aware of for the future.:-)
