  • Question #1 - Do they have springs in them? - Not anymore and not for a while. 1-sided mattresses have a firm, flat platform as a boxspring. They're actually called foundations.
    Question #2 - Should you replace your boxsprings from your current mattress? - This is always a yes if your are buying a different brand of mattress. Boxsprings/foundations do not last forever and if your mattress is in rough shape, replace the whole set.
    Question #3 - Do I even need a boxspring? - Depends on your bed. Platform beds with 10+ slats do not require a boxspring. Beds with only 3-5 slats DO require a boxspring. You can determine how many slats are under your bed by lifting up your mattress.
    Pro Tip!! Measure your rail height if you have a bed(headboard/footboard) to determine what height boxspring you need. 5" or 9". Guys!! Impress your lady friends or your significant other by being aware that the boxspring height can help make the room look sharper!

    He's only been married a few years, but if you put the 9" box spring in "nothing would work in the bedroom." ;)

    We have a serta mattress, which awesome, but the taller foundation, and we've married 25 years! I'm thinking of just removing the foundation and placing plywood across the bed frame, lay the mattress on top of the plywood, every inch of the mattress will be supported. Do you think that's a good idea, rather than buy another foundation?

    • @SweetDreamsMattress
      @SweetDreamsMattress  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jaime, as long as the plywood is supported by several sturdy slats with legs that go to the floor in the middle so that the weight is evenly distributed and everything remains level. If the support under the platform (or box spring too for that matter is wimpy or gives, that will warp the plywood or box and that will be reflected through the mattress. The other thing to consider is height. Measure to know where the plywood would place the surface of your mattress. Depending on your bed or bed frame it could be too low, and that’s when you’d want to go with a box spring.

    I'm thinking of purchasing a queen bed like the first one, it has alot of slats but I'm pretty tall(5'9). So I was thinking I could get a "foundation/boxspring" for height, but I hear boxsprings make your mattress a bit stiffer, which is not what I need for my back lol would you suggest me getting a mattress and putting some type of memory foam for height instead of boxspring? And if so, what size foam?

    • @SweetDreamsMattress
      @SweetDreamsMattress  8 лет назад +2

      +Catrina S. Livingston Hi Catrina, Thanks for the comment! If your platform bed has the right kind of support, it won't feel any different from a foundation/boxspring. 1 sided mattresses need very firm support. Platform beds and boxspring/foundations are built to be extremely firm when well built. If you have a platform bed and you want a thicker profile, they make 2" platforms called Bunkie Boards or use the Low Profile 5" Foundations if you need a little bit more lift. If you add memory foam to your mattress to make it taller, it will also make the mattress softer as a result.

    So on the second bed, does the box spring go on the floor and the frame go around it?

    • @SweetDreamsMattress
      @SweetDreamsMattress  5 лет назад +1

      Jenny Rotten no, that bed like most comes with rails and slats that the box spring sits on. It’s important to make sure those slats are not wimpy. We recommend replacing wimpy wooden slats with heavy duty metal slats and legs. All slats must have legs otherwise they do not support the box spring very well.

      Thank you! I did have wood chunks supporting extra slats that I cut under the bed cause what I got with it wasn’t enough to support it

  • @WOLFROY47

    all very american terminology. confusing if you're talking about a bed base. a slat support bed some other sort of base and not actually about, what type of mattress it is, or what's inside the mattress. you mentioned yourself, that older people use older terms, while manufacturers keep using new terms to describe the same things. here's a new term, sort it out bro, your based in lancashire not new york

    Can i put a box spring on top of a platform bed or will that damage the mattress/void the warrenty?

    • @SweetDreamsMattress
      @SweetDreamsMattress  5 лет назад

      Kiana Jewell, yes you can put a box spring on top of a platform bed but you’ll want to measure in advance if you can. Most of the time box springs will make the mattress sit too high on a platform bed. We recommend adding a 2” platform board also known as a bunkie board of the box spring sit too high. Most box springs today are 9” or 5” or 4” for low profile depending on the brand. Some box springs can be 7”.
      One exception is when the platform bed has bowed or curved slats. There’s no choice but to set the Matt straight on the slats on those.
