  • Will our current age one day be called the "plastic age" by the archaeologists of the future?
They will probably identify us from the plastic waste that we dump into our soils today, waste that comes from all areas of our lives - plastic objects that will still be perfectly preserved 500 to 1000 years from now.
Plastic waste and microplastics in the oceans are already visible and a topic of public debate - major projects have been launched to clean up the islands of waste in the seas - but the plastic waste we dump into our native soils is a much bigger problem for the environment and agriculture/food production. Once the waste is underground, it becomes invisible to us and there is currently little awareness or will to take action.
The film "Plastic Age - Forever?" depicts these problems and shows alternatives and potential solutions. It was created in cooperation with the BOKU Institute of Environmental Biotechnology, Institute of Waste Management and the Environment Agency Austria.
