The vulnerable and thoughtful way you handled this Dan and the whole conversation about it, was some of the best work you have ever done. Even on the Mount Rushmore of amazing moments on this podcast. The discussion and comparison to Chris, the honesty of your emotions, the discussion of celebrating with your kids and the reflection on sports. It's stuck with me so much that I came here to comment on it 5 days after listening to it. It was art not just sports talk. Thanks.

Agreed...he seems to be regressing...trying to do too much....sets your team up for failure...the Buffaloes had NO business letting that game slip away...tip cap to the Jests for staying resilient...it payed off....at this rate.the Bills window is closing still....

I feel bad for Rodgers and Jets fans, and Keith but as for Dan, after listening to him rip and mock the Falcons for what seems like the entire off-season...well, what's that saying, if you don't have anything nice to say...
Have to feel for Dan here, as a Lions fan I know the feeling of complete football helplessness. Hopefully that JETS defense can carry this team
I am hoping they can pick up someone like Wentz and roll with it, but it sounds like they are committed to Wilson. I have a hard time liking him, but for the Jets fans, I will root for Wilson to at least keep them in it until something better comes along.
Fellow Lions fan here and agree. Let's hope the Lions' fortunes also don't turn sour this year on the cusp of something great (and no, I didn't jinx them. There's no such thing as thing as jinxing a franchise that invented the term...lol).

The Jets offensive line could not handle Bills rush at start of game.
Not a Jets fan, not a Rodgers fan, but boy I feel for y'all and him all the same. But also - what a great episode and this is why sports are so great - even when it's terrible, you really appreciate the humanity of it all
No excuses Jets. SF showed last year with a talented roster. Call gameplans that limit Wilsons mistakes and play to your strengths

The way Hanzus got all gleeful at Geno being hit by Donald earlier this week, the fact his season ended in week 1 with Aaron Rodgers getting hurt is just karma
"I'll tell ya where to put that asterisk".... classic. What a game! Can't think of a better one in the last 5 years with all the drama playing out. What a defense. On the QB side if history is in fact instructive, i think there is space to take a deep breath here. There was once a time when young QBs where given time to acclimate to this league (particularly kids like Zach who had poor exposure in a weak college conference). Zach is running out of time, but man, the kids got crazy tools. As an organization, I think the Jets would be crazy not to use this opportunity to see if he can mature... i'm sure a full offseason working side by side with one of the all time greats didn't hurt. Remember, Jordan Love looked like a complete failure his first 3 years, and Zach is the better prospect.
The thing about Zach Wilson though is he doesn't do the most basic thing, he doesn't set his feet before throwing. It should be built into a QB, second nature but he doesn't have it.
Not the best occasion to do this possibly but Marc's pattern Paisley shirt is a doozy
didnt watch it live but found the news on social media a few minutes after it happened.. such a heart breaking start to a season full of hope and enthusiasm.. hopefully the Jets pull through this and pull out a great season with the personnel they have.. hang in there Dan and Keith!
Long time Aussie listener of this podcast. I've never liked the Jets but found myself rooting for them on this night and wondering what the Zeuser was going through. Really happy for the win for you and the team! Hoping for many more wins for the Jets this year.
😅 old man Rodgers is so brittle. Rodgers is not that good anymore anyways, so he wouldn't have made any difference. By the way, the ONLY reason the New Jersey Jets won is because the incompetent referees intentionally ignored that tripping penalty at the end. That punt return should have been negated, Jets fans should feel ashamed of that. How much did Woody pay the refs?
When I saw Rodgers go back down after that hit my heart immediately sank for Dan.

Watched the game in the U.K., not a Jets fan but felt so bad for them and whole team, I really did.

As a Jets fan I’m absolutely furious they didn’t invest more in the offensive line to protect the QB. Truly ridiculous when you have an older quarterback.
But that win is something I’ll remember forever. Truly incredible.
And with this defense the season is not lost. They can literally beat anyone.
couldn't agree more on investing more on OL. Rodgers himself made some comments on having a subpar OL. Like they say tho hindsight is 20 20 but this was a huge oversight on them
This was compelling radio, but so dang sad... so very, very, sad... Anyone who is loyal to football, this is the worst single-player injury that could have possibly happened.

I don’t like to see anyone get injured and I feel bad for all jets fans except Dan Hanzus. This is Karma for a few hours earlier saying with a grin on your face, “I can already hear the excuses coming out of Baltimore” in relation to the injuries we got on sunday

Wentz is NOT better than Wilson. Don’t do it Jets! Rodgers will continue to coach Wilson. I’m a Bucs fan (since 1976) but damn, I felt bad for the Jets. Also don’t trade for Jameis Winston! Ride with Wilson and look for a backup.

It's clear that Dan is heartbroken. What a crushing moment for him and all Jets fans who have endured a lifetime with little success. Just proves Sport is much more than an escapist pastime. I am from Australia (the "surrounding territories"??) and only recently began following the NFL and am a devotee to this informative & funny podcast - but many of us can identify with Dan (and Marc - with his Browns history) when hope appears lost. From an Australian Rules Football lover in Oz my heart goes out to you Dan!!

I don't think the Jets season is over and I'm a Dolphins fan lol. They have two stud RBs Breece Hall & Dalvin Cook. Wilson and a few solid vets at the receiver position. Yeah, Zach Wilson so far seems like a bust but with an elite defense should be able to still have a season to be proud of. Plus you could always go out and try to find another QB that can manage games.
I would try to get someone like Colt McCoy. Nothing showy but that can run an offense steadily enough because that defense will win them games if they have something better then Zach Wilson.
Cooks is slow amd takes too long to get going

This is about as bad as it gets as far as trauma in the sports world. All of us fans have to cope with the irrational emotional investment we have in our teams. I hope one day Jets fans can experience what it's like to see your team hoist the LT as I did with the Seahawks in January of 2014 in, ironically, MetLife stadium.

So a little preface here, Lions fan, and I absolutely despise Aaron Rodgers and his smarmy, douchy, comments. I am someone who takes pleasure in rooting against him, but there was no joy or pleasure in this. You never want to see a player get injured, well except Desean Watson, but that is another story. But the people that are celebrating this and clowning on the Jets and their fans, well that is the lowest of the low. Absolutely disgusting, the internet shows us every day how disgusting and abhorrent people can be. I am actually upset, I really wanted to see the Lions beat Rodgers and the Jets in the Super Bowl, and now my NFL dream is crushed, and I actually feel sympathy for someone that I don't like. You could even say, to tip my hat to the Rolling Stones, that I have "Sympathy for the Devil"... Here is to a speedy recovery and hopefully a return for Rodgers next year so that the Lions can thrash him properly and end his career in the way it was intended by the football gods.

Have some faith in Zach2.0, we have an OC this year, and now he will work with the first stringers to prepare for games.
Aaron Rodgers at 40 will not come back from Achilles, he will earn tremendous Jet credit if he retires now and frees up the salary cap.

Fuck. I knew the Jets won but nothing else. The video showed the Jets offense and I thought, "Oh, good. Let's see Aaron in a real game as a Jet... number two? I thought he was number eight? Ooooohhhh no." As a Pats fan, no kidding, I was excited for my team to go up against the Jets with Aaron. There's no joy in beating up the Jets. Not for quite some time.
Curb Your Enthusiasm needs to bring back that Jets fan who killed himself, just so he can kill himself again even harder.

Cooks as a 1st Starter RB = trouble. he isn't that good, and he is not a threat
WR Diggs = too much expectations of big down catches. Defenses plan to eliminate his potential so that the Bills QB has to go with lesser humans.

Look the Bills in the off season didn't acquire ANY upgrades to help Josh Allen. The Offensive Line did protect him reasonably against the Jets defense. Because the Jets Defensive Line is an exceptionally good one.
Josh Allen needs to stop playing wreckless and not try to initiate contact. His career will be short like Cam Newton

So sorry for Dan and Jets fans. The turnaroubd in the 4th quarter was grace and mercy in real time. That Oline isn't doing any QB favors but glad the defense is in full effect. Happy for that Special Teams player. Josh Allen disappointed me so much. That shoulda been an easy win and he was so reckless.
I say this as a life long Fins fan; this is absolutely heart breaking for Jets fans; and to a lesser degree; football fans. Dan; I gained SOOOOO much respect for not just your words tonight; but your raw emotion and even just your presence for tonight's post game. I will offer perspective; hug; kiss and revel in your family/job

I’m gutted for you, Dan. They looked electric on Hard Knocks and I was hoping this season was going to be a good one for you - even if not a great one - I was hoping it was a good one. Sadly, not.
Fingers crossed that Zack Wilson has become a better QB because of Aaron’s presence, so you can at least enjoy some sort of a decent season.

I had a lump in my throat watching and listening to Dan. I will say, it’s clear to see the love the Heroes have for Dan right now. Genuinely touched by you guys and the love for football and each other. I watch or listen to every single episode, but this ep hits differently. But… Dan is right; this is sports, and you’ve got me hooked from the beginning of my journey and you make it grow each week (even through the off season!). Thank you guys x
