What moron would try to sell that at a pawn shop? There are so many high end dealers and collectors who would pay good money for that rare of a guitar!
That's just it. Most likely they just call collector X in japan and the guy wires them the $250,000 the seller wanted in the first place and the guitar goes right into a vault.
I love this seller. He’s stone-faced and cavalier, and while he does come down on his price, he still tells Rick that if he wants Mary Ford’s guitar, he’s going to have to get serious about spending money. Good for him.
- He had to be in serious money problems. And he traded very-very poorly. I say VERY. And the pawnshop guys... I keep my opinion to myself because the ink wouldn't bear it. Not on this level but I have this kinda experience. I could cry. Maybe inside he felt that as well. Propably.
You're probably right.. If this guy ran that guitar in the right magazine.. I bet one of the millionaire Rock Guitar Players out there would have paid at least $200,000. This guy went from $250,000 to $100,000 in one jump...
yntaxErrorXoXo Noo not really... This Guitar was sold on EBAY for only 110.000 and with all the fee's and time and money spend he hardly earned 10.000 over it.. that's not much for such big item!
Daily Dump News, "not many"? How many Mary Ford white Gibson solid body guitars have you ever seen? There was only one. Rick Harrison sold it for $110,000 at auction.
As a guitar player, that guitar is worth way more than $90k. A few years ago I moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin, the home town of Les Paul. I learned more about that exact guitar than I thought I would. Mary Ford helped make that body style famous amongst guitar players. It eventually became the SG. Sad to see Mary Ford's nephew pawning her guitar.
First rule of negotiation: if the seller lows the price A LOT he's desperate for selling. This guy lowered the price from 250.000 to 100.000 and finally 90.000.
I remember watching this on TV when it went on air. Never thought I would own one! I now have an original 1961 Custom like this. Although it's not Mary Fords and it had been refinished over the years (by the original owner) its an absolutely beautiful guitar. I'm the second owner since 1961. This guitar inspired me to do the three-uncovered pickup look!
That went from 250k to 100k real quick... Most of these buys must be staged and he isnt really buying them that low, you're a tool, if you agree on a deal that gives a pawn shop around 60k profit on a 90k deal....
@VR6 Doug Yeah, it seems more and more staged now tho.. These prices are ridiculous, nobody in their right mind would sell an item for 60k less then its minimum valued at.. Are the items that are bought on this show even in the shop and up for purchase?
lol probably not... from what I've heard most of the shop is filled with cheap merchandising crap for Pawn Stars like t-shirts and mugs etc. All the good stuff probably gets auctioned off

I agree with you, it's one of those things that you just never sell unless you are completely down and out...at the end of the day you put that thing in an auction and you're walking away with a quarter million dollars easily, minimum, because it's a one-of-a-kind and the nature of the guitar itself with the papers included, will have two guitar lovers, probably and hopefully famous musicians even, bidding on it back and forth driving the price way up. Due to the nature of the item, selling it in that setting isn't ideal because the shop has to not only make a profit on it but they also have to take into consideration that it might not sell immediately so their money is tied up in the item until they get a buyer which is why they offer a much lower price compared to it being sold on the open market (seller to buyer with no middle man i.e. the pawn shop) or at an auction...

you have to learn- "split the difference" seller said 250k- Rick said 75k. the difference is 175k. so- 75k plus 87k.(half the difference) would come to- 162k. that should have been the sellers "fair counter offer" and if Rick said no- walk out- there is always another day to sell, and another buyer to sell to.
Not sure you understand how those auctions work at 90K that's equivalent to a buyer spending upwards of 120K at auction and if he sells it no reserve he risks it going for a stupidly low number if he places a reserve he pays even more fees and risks it not selling at all wasting his time

"In 2011 the nephew of Mary Ford offered Mary's Gibson SG Les Paul Custom guitar to the Pawn Stars and came away with a cool $90,000 USD. After filming, the Harrison's then put it up for auction on eBay where it sold for $110,000 USD." I'm surprised it did so poorly mainly because of the provenance. I can't believe there weren't any rich musicians out there all over this. Like Kirk Hammett - "He purchased this 1959 Les Paul from Richard Henry Guitars for $2,000,000! Not bad for a guitar with this much history. This makes it the most expensive Les Paul ever sold." This guitar in comparison is a relative bargain!!!
Ricks crack tightened up for a minute there.
