    The thing about any war is that the members involved may have complex pasts with each other. This is deeply true for the Dominion War. Though the actions here both by the blood of war and the words of diplomacy lead on to the potential of brighter tomorrows. Cool to see the Picard - Tomalak interactions as well as ground battle formations. Curious to see more of Sayaran.

    The dominion moved too quickly and too aggressively, everything was rolled back on them shortly after gaining it. The Kalandra offensive is very much like the battle of the bulge, the last great dominion counterattack which expended their remaining strength. They will be briefly rejuvenated later on, but even that is not enough at this point. In my opinion, the Dominion had entered a terminal decline in the quadrant, like the Byzantine empire after then end of the Komnenos dynasty, they would never again achieve the great power they once held. Like the Byzantines as well, the dominion has gone way past the point of negotiating for its continued existence in the quadrant and its enemies will settle for nothing less than the end of the hated enemy.

    • @venomgeekmedia9886
      @venomgeekmedia9886  2 года назад +11

      Interesting comparison. It's worth acknowledging that the dominion really needed a diplomatic breakthrough to survive in that lull after operation return. Once the federation resolved to continue they knew that they were living on borrowed time.

      I most say the Dominion did very good when the only ones helping them was Cards 50 years behind everybody else in tech. The Dominion forces at hand in the quadrant had to fight space hippies, cosmic Vikings and Beta quadrant Romans with one arm tied behind their back and cut off from home. When it comes to the Byzantine Empire when any country is on top no matter how nice and how much they help the rest of the world all other counties want to bring them down. The US is liven proof of that. In short when you are on top everybody else will label you a villain. Like the Byzantines the US is getting replaced with something far worse.

      Heh. I think they just meant to occupy the frequencies, but people forget computers in Trek world could probably counteract that if they were using radio and someone noticed.
      I thought it was some irony there though, cause some years ago I had a roleplaying character that had been at the liberation of Benzar. (It went down rather differently in whatever sources and embellishments I was using, and if I recall, there Benzar was occupied rather longer, and it was a bit more like retaking the Philippines after most of the Japanese Navy was out, also the Benzites had more to do with it, cause they seem like peeps that plan everything before they drop the hammer, which is a fairly good way to be if occupied. ) ...and that character's attack plane squadron had a history of razzing the Breen in particular with 'Ballroom Blitz' by Sweet as a sort of calling card.
      So, Venom's story seemed to interestingly hit on familiar beats to what I'd largely imagined.

  • @richjordan6461

    One criticism, which I think is justified, leveled at STAR TREK ONLINE is that they bring in established and beloved Trek characters at every turn, unrealistically so, straining immersion in the story. I was thinking of that when you had the summit between Picard, Tomolok, the Klingon general, and Admiral Fulton. Fulton and the Klingon are your characters right? As is the lucky Vorta? This felt like one of the very best DS9 multiepisodes because of the combination of war tactics/strategies and the personal component of Picard/Tomalak/Sayaran/Cardassian sentiments and realizations. Though it is amusing to watch this having read the books that take place not long after Nemesis as Tomalak becomes the right hand man of the new leader of Romulus once Shinzon is taken care of. It speaks of how in the same way that Picard is as skilled at War as Sisko so Tomalak is as slimy and pragmatic as Dukat. We like to think they are different because both Picard and Tomalak are so affable and charming but even in season one of TNG we see Picard as quite the military officer using the Enterprise to show the flag against the Romulans while Tomalak slimed at Galorndon Core. So here they break bread and call each other allies when in a few short years Riker will have to face down an angry Tomalak.

If the ships are all in orbit and line of sight they could have just used laser communication which is possible with today’s technology. Interesting take, though a lot of it, especially the ground actions, seemed to omit the fact Benzar clearly has a rather different atmosphere. (And most of the people apparently live in 'Geostructures,' whatever those are. )
    (Also people forget a thing about antimatter, namely that it's not like a nuclear chain reaction or a bigger bomb if you have a lot in the same place. Especially in space, without deliberate containment, antimatter might make a very catastrophic boom as far as your starship is concerned, but every single little matter antimatter particle explosion pushes all the reactants *further apart.* So you probably don't get planet-cracking as depicted even in atmosphere, more likely you get a firestorm and probably most of the pressure sending more reactants *up,* than down or sideways. Cause there's fewer reactants and thus less resistance the higher you go. Everything going to the sides pushes energy in all directions, including in and up, blow away the matter to react with, which way does the energy, thus most of the antimatter go. )

    And of course they would jam communication with Earth music that just so happened to be in their database prior to the engagement. Such a jamming technique can be filtered-out by playing an inverted version of the music (aka: "anti noise"). Of course, with Starfleet being run by idiots, it's no surprise they don't have this technology. What's an even bigger surprise is that the radio signals travelled at the same speed as subspace signals, rather than the much slower, speed of light. Should I be surprised that the Dominion had the radio technology available to them?

    Captains log USS Normandy Adm Caughey in command. It’s funny that despite all my experiences that the more senior of admirals refuse to listen to me. I warned that Idiot Paris that the dominion would find some way to take Benzar from us. They just don’t listen, we tried during that fight to do what we usually do but we just couldn’t inflict enough pain. It didn’t help that Endeavor was pulled back again leaving just the 6 Normandy class ships to fight solo. That and considering that the Normandy class has been replaced officially by the new invincible class DD I can understand why Paris thought we were pointless. We harassed the Dominion as much as we could but withdrew when ordered to. As we don’t carry major infantry units we don’t participate in planetary assaults very often but we act more like scouts and skirmishers. Though in an assault a Normandy can bring a lot of close air support. It was good to take the offensive again but downright scary when those monsters set off that antimatter plant. I have to praise Thomas Riker for flying us into position to unload that torpedo. I’m officially recommending him for the federation distinguished flying chevron and the medal of valor with a promotion to commander. Most of my bridge crew is officially recommended for the medal of valor as well. I’m in line to receive my 3rd Starfleet Medal of Honor for this one. ( at this point I’m running out of space for the fruit salad). The offensive has slowed but we’re still scouting ahead for the fleets. I’m not much for Romulan formalities but they’re nice enough to respect my military skills, medals and rank. Best to leave diplomacy to those good at it. Now the Klingons? I definitely respect them more, they’re always asking about my injuries and respecting what I went through to return to duty. I definitely prefer bloodwine to Romulan ale, like the Klingons there is nothing hiding. Just wait till they get a taste of my home brew white lightning. Once again there’s hope we’re going to win this thing, Adm Caughey out

    This was another brilliantly awesome, compellingly magnificent and marvellously comprehensive new addition to the dominion war battle series. The dominion seem to be losing their ability to see the big picture and plan ahead and are sorely lacking in an overall strategic co-ordinator or diplomatic advisor going forward. As while bold new offensives may seem good on paper, Dominion should be hoarding their resources in south and using them to either pinch off the pocket or hold Betazed, rather than over extending themselves and giving allies chance to take advantage of to strike back. Allowing Allied forces to build up momentum to eventually reverse alot of the dominions gains in the galactic south.
    Dominion if they had any sense should be trying to get back to the negotiating table and use its territorial gains to achievbe a peace in which all captured cardassian territory is return and maybe gain some territorial concessions in the dmz for returning Betazed and other captured planets in the south.
