Thanks, Jam! Ronnie was a true star! I met her once in later days.. playing a club in Boston.. she was charming.. gave me a hug, and posed for pics.. she's every bit as sweet as she looks and sounds...

Lead vocalist Ronnie (Veronica) Bennett vocals, the "whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh", is a blend of two of the most successful singers of that era, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee. These ladies never wore wigs. "Be My Baby" was released in August 1963. In 1961, The Ronettes, the New York City girl group made up of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. By 1963, the trio caught the attention of producer Phil Spector, and moved to his Philles Records, expanding their sound with his famous “Wall of Sound” production technique. “Be My Baby” was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, California on July 5, 1963 and released in August, 1963. They released only one studio album and broke up in 1967. The Bennetts' mother was a Black American and their father was Irish-American. Their cousin, NedraTalley, is Black American and Puerto Rican. In America during the time they were popular, they were a "Negro group". There was no social media so most white people didn't realize this. The group never denied their Black heritage, in fact they graced the cover of Ebony Magazine, the most important monthly magazine for Black people throughout the USA.

They were very popular and this was a Big hit! You should find the video of the Ronettes early in career, they are wearing dresses & their hair was in their famous beehive style 🥰. As teens we loved the girl groups of the 60’s, they gave us confidence, taught us how to dress & do our hair & makeup 💜 Ronnie Spector was the lead singer, she married the cool 👿manager of the day Phil Spector who the world found out he was physically and sexually & mentally abusing Ronnie. She eventually divorced him & went on to have a very long career, almost to the time Ronnie passed away a few years ago, a very sad 💔 time. RIP Ms Ronnie you gave the world some beautiful songs to cherish ❣️

This group were known for their distinctive image although not in this video . the beehive hairstyle and make up was responsible for the image of amy winehouse decades later ❤

This is the main theme song from the film "Dirty Dancing" 1987. Singers years ago HAD to have natural talent & the more you see the more you learn how many, many singing artists, whether individual or groups such as doo-wop from the '50's & r&r into the '60' were truly great singers - it was all natural. The one thing missing now unfortunately are some of the amazing instruments such as the great saxophone, the horns & piano, the flute. You can hear in this song the example of how beautiful the music was w-all the instruments. I grew up w-all of this & wouldn't trade it for the world - it was a joyous time.
Here is a great talent I do hope you will watch - the AMAZING Darlene Love singing "Darlene Love's spectacular final Christmas performance for The Late Show with David Letterman" at
ruclips.net/video/tsU08y9peZg/видео.html, at age 73 getting on top of the piano. Do not stop when it seems like the end because there's a bit more singing after Letterman says goodnight. Her power is almost earth shattering. Thank you - you hit the nail on the head about our music back then.
