Apparently he wanted to quit SHINee because he thought he was bringing the team down. After his surgery, he had to retrain his voice to sing and because of that he wanted to quit. Thankfully, the members talked to him and encouraged him so he stayed.

+saga2828 Taemin just have his own ways of holding back his tears, and you know, behind that smiles that he's always showing, is actually sadness, that's just the way he holds back his tears. The only times I saw him cried was when they won the "Artist of the Year" award back in 2013, and in their very early years when he talked about his parents on this one radio show, just type Taemin cried or crying, and you will see the clip that said Taemin crying cut [08.07.31]. Those were mainly the one times I saw him cried.
