For me, and I could be wrong here, But RDJ as DR DOOM can ONLY work IF RDJ keeps the mask on at all times. Or show the MEGA Scars on DR DOOMs face to obscure it is him.
Not sure how i feel about this but i know different storylines in the comics iron man and dr doom switched bodies and other stuff. I trust the Russo Brothers though. I think they already said hes going to be Victor Von Doom and not just a variant. But who knows.
I was doing some looking into that storyline, it could very well be a contender. I'm mainly glad about the Russos coming onboard; they've built enough trust in the fans. - nonsensei
My problem with this is that despite that RDJ will be good as Doom, I REALLY hope its not at the expense of recurring doom villain not just some two picture desperate hail memory reductive stunt casting. Alot people dont realize that despite Iron mans gained popularity since 2008 Doom is more iconic then even iron man he is marvels greatest villain and one of the most complex comic book characters so that being said, he has to be a Victor Von Doom VARIANT. It can't be the MAIN 616 Sacred Timeline Doom, as long as we get the recast and the real doom shows up eventually im people will be fine with this. Despitie that, this was snot your first choice, it was Kang. This was desperate. This was certainly not the plan.
This was not the long term plan, they definitely had all their chips on Kang, but with everything that happened in the press, and the amount of box office flops they've been having, they knew they had to reinvest the audience with a pivot. We've been saying for a while that something like this was going to happen, and with Deadpool making jokes at the MCU's expense, it did seem as if the change was going to happen soon. I just wasn't expecting this soon! I do think this is all to set the MCU back up from zero. Bringing RDJ back is the only way to get people involved with the end of it. They want to go out with a bang not a whimper. Like JoshuaJones said, they'll reboot it all, probably just after the Avengers films. - nonsensei

He is a variant known as God Emporer Doom from 2015 Marvel comics Secret Wars. He isn't Tony Stark. The 616 Iron man is dead and not coming back. He is a variant in the Multiverse saga.
RDJ is him, he can play as a superhero and he is capable of playing Doom in the best way possible
