The changes they did to this new version over the older version, helped to differentiate it further from Acquire. The game drives groups to go into the middle and interact and the prices fluctuate more.
You can get the old 1987 edition of this game dirt cheap at the big cons. Mayfair games sells it for under 10 bucks, and has been doing it for years. We love this game at our club.
It makes a much bigger difference. It helps make it less like Acquire and makes the risk element larger. For me, everything has been jacked up a good amount. Because of one less quadrant, and I believe the amount of Shark sectors being twice as much, you have more chance of groups crashing. Also, the cap limit on group size of the Flying Turtles Games version was lifted. I do have both versions still but prefer to play the newer one.
One important bit he didn't quite mention. When a stock goes up, everyone gets money for each share they own, when a company goes down, everyone loses money for every share they own EXCEPT FOR THE PLAYER THAT CAUSED IT. This encourages you to trash anything that might hurt opponents.
Wow, for a Ravensburger game, this sure is UGLY. I have the Flying Turtle Games version and it looks a whole lot better. Actually, looking at the two again, it looks like they have pretty different grid layouts. I wonder if that make much of a difference.
I have the 1987 Ravensburger in Dutch and it looks much better than the FT version I saw elsewhere. Both the box art and the play board have great, fitting artwork and the pieces resemble small but solid high rises Manhattan style. The manual is a colourfull booklet that is clear, though some situations may require ruling advice from experienced players.
New edition coming out from korea games :-)
