My son in law made a boat using only three things. He was limited to using cardboard, duct tape and paint. I couldn't believe it would float but it did. And, it carried six older teenage boys. It was a contest in Harrison, Arkansas. The challenge was held yearly with some pretty impressive boats. Yes, they had to race them in the lake.

I inadvertently found this to be true as well. Using a ride-on mower with the directional tube on the side up, I flung a gum nut through a window that left a perfect hole in the top right corner. No-one knew it had happened for a while as all those in the research lab were on lunch break. Freaked us all out and I never did that again.

I can attest to the molten lead myth, once while moving a lead ingot mold (melting tire weights into ingots to later mold into warhammer minis...) I tilted the mold too far and watched in horror as molten lead poured into my palm of my ungloved hand and onto the wooden tabletop instantly burning into the wood. I was amazed to find my palm completely fine. Needless to say I didn't repeat, and put on my leather glove.

Fun fact: "duct" tape was also used by US helicopter pilots during vietnam war, if their rotor fan was hit by bullets pilots were to place a duct tape on the holes before the replacements come in, if the holes left unchecked, it would affect the aerodynamics of thaircraft and it also create a whistling sound.

Something that works even better than swearing for relieving pain is laughter. I figured this out randomly one time when I crashed on my bicycle. The pain caused by this particular crash wasn't as painful as others before it but the pain did seem to subside faster after a good laugh. Laughter helped me out in high school and during my time in the Navy. It deterred altercations. I hit on someone's girlfriend not knowing she had a boyfriend earning me a punch in the stomach. I laughed it off and told him he hits like a ten-year-old girl. That earned me another punch to the gut where I laughed even harder and said correction seven-year-old. The guy looked at me in disgust and walked away. From that point on no one ever got physical with me in school ever again.
Laughter is something you can definitely use in the office.

You probably could for shallow water, but a huge component of how submarines are made is to resist the intense pressure of the water above you. There’s a point, not that far down, where without being in a submarine you would be instantly crushed to death. But again if you just wanna like… go around in your swimming pool or something… I’d say go for it!

I've seen three cases of lawnmowers doing major damage in my life so far. The first was my best friend in elementary school, she was hit in the head by a rock flung by her dad's mower, she had to have stitches and missed a lot of school because of it. The second was a large dent in my brother's fender due to the county cutting grass in the ditch across the street. We found the rock responsible for that one, it was about 2" long and an inch wide. The last was a shattered tempered glass commercial building door that was about 30 feet from where the person was mowing. Bottom line, projectiles can and do get flung from lawnmowers, and it can have serious consequences.

The company I was working for had a job to clear the overgrown weeds out of a supply yard for the Water District. We all had to use weed eaters with metal blades to clear everything while being on the look out for rattle snakes which were abundant in the area and were really well camouflaged by the rocky ground and weeds. On the second day my co-worker who was about 25-30 ft away hit some rocks and sent them flying. One hit me square on the forehead and one caught me on the upper lip but at more of an angle thankfully, a direct hit would have knocked out some teeth. It felt like God just bitch slapped me with a hammer, knocking me right on my ass and busted my lip and forehead. I had the worst headache of my life for the next couple of the days.

I was going to work one day and was passing by a junction where some government gardeners were moving the city's grass on my motorcycle and one of the lawn mowers kicked up a rock and it came hurtling towards my glasses and shattered it there and then! Luckily, none of the glass shards ever got into my eye. Still, it's pretty creepy! If it hadn't been for my glasses, I would have faced my own final destination with the rock!

Two true stories... I was down in Georgia visiting my brother and his wife. We were sitting in the living room while my brother was out on his riding mower. They had just finished replacing their glass storm door due to a freak accident during a thunderstorm and my sis in law and I were standing there just looking at it when we heard a horrifying SMACK!! and the entire glass door shattered! The lawn mower had thrown a rock right at the door. The other story is about my hubby, who had just gotten a job at store at the beginning of the lockdown. He had to sanitize carts and have people put on hand sanitizer and a mask and keep track of how many people were in the store. We were a little worried about people having hard feelings about it, so when hubby came outside after work and saw the entire back window in his new SUV shattered we just assumed it was a vandal. It actually really hurt our feelings because we know these people. The owner of the store assured us they would take care of it, and watched the security tape to see who it was that broke the glass. He was watching and he could see the glass just inexplicably explode. After he watched a little more closely he realized the lady across the street was mowing along very happily with her earbuds in and just didn't notice the rock that got flung out and shattered the glass. I have to say, it was far less hurtful knowing it was just a fluke and not that someone really wanted to cause us distress or possibly even harm. She brought us cookies, everything was good. lol
