Schönes Video😁 My go to BW mode is Flat Monochrome with added contrast lol. And deep monochrome is amazing in sunset situations or stormy weather. Never liked the look of red filters very much but I am starting to really love Nikons deep monochrome for dramatic landscapes.
Wow 😮 ich fühle mich geehrt, dass du eines meiner Videos gefunden hast 🤗 Danke schön! As you said I also realised it depends on the scene which profile I like more. And I haven’t had time to dap into the custermisation yet, but really enjoy my first Nikon with dedicated b/w mode 🙂
Wow! Wow! Wow! Lovely video. I picked up my first Zf earlier this week and have a second one on order. I have been a Fuji user until now and although I will not be getting rid of any of my Fuji gear, I was very impressed when the Zf was announced and just had to have one. So far I am loving it. In most of your shots I preferred the Mono images, one or two looked better as Flat but I was not so impressed with the Deep. However, what DID impress me was the beautiful town. If that is your home town then you are a very lucky man indeed. I love Germany but have not been to Esslingen. It is now on my list of places to visit along with Berlin. I was also very impressed with that amazing Camera store. I live in London and we have very few shops as good as that. Thanks for posting this. I am going to see the Christmas Markets in Strasbourg at the end of November this year and I am now SO tempted to take a side trip to Esslingen.
Thank you very much for your kind words and for watching! To be honest, Esslingen is nothing special to me - it's a nice small town, but I'm also aware of saying this because I live here :) I will do a POV video with colour on the Zf and planning to do this during Christmas market time, since Esslingen is famous for its Christmas market - because it has seperate middle age christmas market area :)
It is nice that Nikon have at last introduced some B&W profiles in this camera. But as a very long time Nikon User ( since FM and F3 ), I have to admit that the most flexibility in B&W profiles in my cameras, are afforded by my Olympus EM5 MKII and EM1 MKII. Both have the ability to alter the Shadow, Mid Tone and Highlights in Monochrome mode, and still reatin the ability to use the digital contrast filters. The results can be altered to suit the subject almost on the go. Here though, I quite liked the deep tone profile.
Very interesting video, thank you. As an avid B&W shooter, mostly with Leica Monochrom cameras I've been enjoying my Zf, especially with Voigtlander Z mount MF lenses. When I shoot in the B&W mode, I shoot RAW only but with the viewfinder set for monochrome flat. I find that flat gives me the best look into the shadows through the viewfinder. I have an import preset in Lightroom that gives me a good starting point for processing. Thanks again for the video.
In the first group I like the deep tone images, sometimes the flat monochrome for the lighter color buildings. I would like to know more about the 3 options?
Thank you very much! It’s in my town I’m currently live in Germany / Esslingen. It’s near Stuttgart, the Mercedes Benz city :) Thank you for your time watching!
I'd say I mostly liked "Mono" (the first one in your shooting) and in some cases "Flat Mono" (the 2nd one). And only in one case - boot shop - deep tone was the best (IMO). I wish I could get such a Nikon Zf.
I honestly don’t know. That’s how it was when it arrived and I warrior excited to shoot the Zf I forgot to peel it off :) Thank you for your time watching!
My feeling is that the standard monochrome version is the best rendition, the deep monochrome is a bit dark for what you are photographing and the flat might be better achieved by the selection of paper you choose to make a print with.
You are 100% correct, but only the Zf has the dedicated b/w switch and in the beginning I totally underrestimated this how often I would use this feature. Thanks for your time watching!
Thank you! In the videos I did shoot all jpeg, but in the future I will shoot in raw and switch the looks / profiles in post in LR. But for private stuff I find myself only using the jpg, since the profiles from Nikon are just great as they are for my private family use.
I get that. But when I set RAW to B&W, Lightroom only sees the colored RAW images, not B&W. I always take pictures in RAW. Only in B&W I only want to do JPEGS. I constantly have to change these settings in the I menu when I spontaneously switch from color to B&W@@IntrovertAmateur
Thanks for watching! Haha you have sharp eyes 😀 It’s gone now. Before I was partly shooting with the LCD and this session was the first one i did EVF exclusively and noticed the sticker after the session 😀
To be honest none of these shots impress me, far too contrasty and dark. Maybe they need some editing? At only half of the price the Z5 is a better option, a friend has one and gets great results. I'm tempted 📷👍
The standard Monochrome jpegs looks fantastic, very much like Tri-X film thru my nikon FE

I'd recommend Freiburg and Basel (🇨🇭)both under 2 hours away from Strasbourg. Way more scenic ;-) (no offense to Esslingen though)

No offense taken - I'm born and raised in Freiburg and visited Basel more then enough. I can only agree :)

I got my ZF on Friday, can’t wait to go out and use it!
Speaking from experience, you will have a great time :)
Thanks for watching!
Yup.the flat monochrome looks really goooooood

Great video, thanks!! My fav is the flat mono. Keep up the good work!
Thank your very much! Appreciate your time watching and glad you enjoyed it!

beautiful city man!
Thanks for checking man! :)
I like the Deep Tone Monochrome.

get the pure black peak strap anchors. they will look great on the black camera. that 40mm is also my main lens right now.
Thanks for the tip! Will have a look for them, specifically for Black Friday :)
Beautiful images. Where was this place?
Thank you very much! It’s in my town I’m currently live in Germany / Esslingen. It’s near Stuttgart, the Mercedes Benz city :)
Thank you for your time watching!
I liked the monochrome in this lighting ... on a aunny day it may be a different case..
Yeah I have also experimented with the lighting conditions. Right now I use flat mono with slight boost in contrast.

Just noticed the label on the back of your camera. Why is yours on the outside like that? Mine is under the flip screen on the camera body.
I honestly don’t know. That’s how it was when it arrived and I warrior excited to shoot the Zf I forgot to peel it off :)

It really depends on the scene and one’s personal preference.
Thank you for watching and your comment!
One cannachieve the same look using the z6 too, just FYI.
You are 100% correct, but only the Zf has the dedicated b/w switch and in the beginning I totally underrestimated this how often I would use this feature.

Flat ... then apply a little HDR and contrast ... perfect for me.
Great video, really enjoying my ZF. Do you start out as a JPEG or shoot raw and then covert?
Thank you! In the videos I did shoot all jpeg, but in the future I will shoot in raw and switch the looks / profiles in post in LR. But for private stuff I find myself only using the jpg, since the profiles from Nikon are just great as they are for my private family use.
Is there a possibility that B&W can only be made in Jpegs and in color RAW? or do I have to switch RAW and Jpeg every time?
If you shoot B&W it will only impact the jpegs. Raws will still be in color.
Monochrome is the best, don't like other 2. Thanks for the great video.
Btw, why don't you remove that sticker from the backside of the screen?
Thanks for watching!
Haha you have sharp eyes 😀

Deep Tone Monochrome ist mega.

Nowadays there are great cameras for anybody at any price point :)
The z5 is very very good for the price. Just make a U1 setting monochrome and your all set
I found them not so contrasty at all
Monochrome
if the focus subject is not people, then we wont call it street photography
