Dear Tech Arkit,
I used Yum without createrepo command & copy to /rpms. I just make the file repo config file for /mnt & get the same repo.
So why most of the guides used createrepo command. Simply I dont understand yet.
By Default installation media comes with pre-created repository in CD/DVD/ISO. So no need to create repo again.
I am download rhel 7.7 version from the Reshat web site and install that OS on physical machine after that I am checking yum repolist it is showing the status 0.
Of-course because you need to configure YUM repository using DVD media or install EPEL rpm for EPEL repository.
I am using DVD media here my problem is I don't want create local repo I just want download packages from online I mean through Redhat .
@@TechArkit And I am alredy subscribed in Redhat but I tried to install package it is not installed and I tried to subscribe to go to Application - system tools - Redhat Subscription manager and try register it is display message like Unable to reach the server at subscription.rhsm.redhat.com:443/subscription what is the problem of this one can u please reply for this .
@@subbarayuduburri7374 Do you have internet connectivity to your Linux server, please verify. It looks like you do not have internet access.
Hi Tech Arkit!
After vi /etc/yum.repos.d/rhel7.repo ..
Yum repolist shows error
Error is-- file contains parsing errors: file:///etc/yum.repos.d/file.repo
[Line 7]. Like this.
Please reply.I'm stuck with it.
you should provide file path as RPMs data
@@TechArkit ya now it's done. Thank u soooo muchhh.
Good Job
I gave cd /run/media/root/ tab, but it does not display rhel. I don't know why
When CD/DVD media auto mounted then only it will show there, otherwise you have mount manually. mount /dev/sr0 /media
@@TechArkit thank you, but it seem I had given the cd in auto detect, then I gave the location of iso image and it was all sotried out. I was able to find the solution the next day. Just wanted to say thanks.
Hi, I followed the same steps done by you in this video but still it's not working. Error: cannot find a valid baseurl for repo. Pls help me
Can you post me the steps what you have done. You have to mount the ISO file to /mnt and create file.repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d/ and check for yum repolist. That's it.
You can try it via FTP as well , worked for me.
Install vsftpd and it's dependency deltarpm , then enable service.
When trying to mount repository, I get this error:
"error: open of createrepo failed: No such file or directory"
Please check your ISO is attached to the VM.
Solved
Good!
what will the output if i put gpgcheck=0 ?
gpgcheck=0 means it wont check for key file.
how are you able to create anything under mnt ? mine is giving error with root
You can create sub directories under /mnt and mount each path to each mount point.
Question, does this also apply if I'm using Satellite server?
Nope, Satellite server has its own URL.
AS I read all the comments here it becomes obvious that yum is one of the worst tools ever put in Linux and it needs serious work to be a contender. I see many people here who are getting errors like mine yet the conf file does not contain any of the repositories that are causing problems. What a piece of crap "tool"! Tools are supposed to make your life easier not spend two days trying to figure out why the tool does not work.
its not that complex, if you simply follow this video do not do any extra steps it will work in 10 minutes.
Clearly, you did not read my whole comment.
Sir Ivh or Uvh main kya fark hai ??
ivh is for installing. Uvh is for Updating the packages. i = install, U = Update.
Hey Man, this is totally not working for RHEL. I believe you did it on CentOS.
May i know what is the error/issue your getting, I will help you out. 100% it should work in RHEL.
