that suspense and anxiety you got when you and your brothers proceeded to press start to go to the next screen. character select, axel and skate. as a bead of sweat drops down your fresh faced 5 year old self, hoping your big bros is gna keep you from getting knocked out of the game. oh the innocence
@NoStress90s Now why you gotta go and read my life story like dat? Though I was the big brother hoping me and my little had what it took to keep each other alive and beat this game.
this music is well put together I think its the best video game opening music ever, you can feel there is a lot of emotion, sometimes sad, sometimes angry, other times happy, we've all been waiting to press start and return to the streets a 4th time, but Sega has been taken over by mr x lol.
+Stringer Bell back to the streets haa!!ahhh!! crash!! this series deserves a well thought out and planed movie and 4th title thats a lot to ask but sega has nothing better to do the board rooms are pretty much full of sor fans that made it to the 8th stage right about now.
1 of the greatest intro themes (or original pieces of music) in video game history .. The Japanese just knew how to get the most out of those earlier systems like nes - snes - genesis etc
There's nothing that can beat the 90s style music that the old school games had. There was so much effort put into every stage and theme song. The music was part of the journey, not just background noise like it is today.
I remember I just put this game on and went to make a sandwich. I came back and delayed playing it by five minutes or so just because this song caught me right in the feels.
Played this awesome game with a blind friend of mine some years ago... gonna play it again soon. One of the best co-op games in history. We need more of these!
I'm 28 but I remember renting this at blockbuster when I was 9. This game changed the way I looked at games. It changed the way I perceived sounds and music in games. This game just transcends even today...
I feel nostalgia listening to this...I was maybe 10 or so when I first played this on some completetion disk or something on the Dreamcast...I forgot the name of the game, but I never forgot the soundtrack. Then I watched some Screwattack list of Top Twenty Genesis games ever, and this game was #2. I felt while I was watching it "I know that game!" So I found it again and I've been playing it again. I missed a lot of great games of the 80s and 90s. Glad I didn't miss this one.
Yuzo Koshiro is the MAN! I can go on record and say that I remember thinking that music for this game was just awesome when I played it as a little kid. Brings me back to my childhood.
I always loved this intro. it wasn't till I went to the music in the setting well after I played the game t hat I realised this tune went on for much longer than in the actual intro. I neally fell over when it did. Such a great game and music and time of my life, dam the memories.
Glad to see Playstation Network bring some of these games back to life in the Sega Ultimate Collection. A nice break from today's wild and crazy world of first-person shooters, RPG's, and survival horrors. This was one of my favorite games to play on Sega Game Gear, which I still have and it still works fine. Ahhhhh nostalgia
Brings back memories, i cant even remember doing school work back then, all i can remember was goin to my neighbours to play this awesome game, i miss da good ole days
Actually wish i could go back to the 90's and be a kid again, playing classic games like this without a care in the world, life seemed so much better then .....
this is my favorite game intro theme of all time. i'm in the studio now trying to recreate it with newer sounds. but nothing will beat the classic 16-bit version.
I remember this game when it came out back in the glory days of the Sega Genesis console. This music fits NYC perfectly in that era where I was in public school and well city life was city life.
I still have the game on my Megadrive/Genesis and I love it. It's one of the best, if not the best beat em up game you can get. It was unique, the soundtrack, the graphics, you could play it in singleplayer, cooperative, player vs. player....awesome! I really don't know how often I have played this game when I was "young", but this game was epic! Imo games for the Megadrive were far more advanced and somewhat mature than on the SNES. I have a PSP 3k as well, but I miss my GameGear =/.
I was born in 93 and me and bro who was born in 92 played this until we were in 6th grade then I bought it on psn like 3 yrs ago and still play atleast once a month to bad he stopped gaming in middle school :( can't never get him to game anymore
I feel you bro but its not gaming that my brother stopped playing with me, it was card games like yugioh. he doesn't play video games with anymore because I beat him at everything.
lol i used to beat my bro at everything but when we started middle school he sort of stopped especially in high school, when he came out the closet then we definitely fell off after that
for all who love the Streets of rage series, on Xbox 360 there is a game called "Sonic's ultimate Genesis Collection". all 3 games are on it. it is only around $20. (plus games like sonic the hedgehog 1,2,3,3D, Sonic pinball, Comix zone, etc.
top 5 beat drops of all time.
Top 2 naw actually top one
As a kid when this played you knew shit was going down.
Me and my brother were just talking about this very thing and you just confirmed everything man.
PART OF MY HISTORY! always in my heart, game and music!
Essa musica e a do top gear são as mais emocionantes
Couldn't agree more!
Me too kid
Maybe the best soundtrack in the game history, fuck this is amazing ..
With Road Rash.
And FFVII
One of SEGA's best game for the Genesis turns 22 this Saturday.
FUN FACT: this soundtrack was based on 'Sadness' a song by Enigma, a sort of German/American Indian techno band from the 90's.
crashprune173 Yeh def has that vibe to it. Enigma are awesome btw. ;)
crashprune173 the first ones intro sounded more like enigma sadness imo
Thought so, I recognised the beat instantly!
crashprune173 It's based on that, and the song Sadeness sampled, called Keep on Moving by Soul II Soul, a British new jack swing/R&B/dance group
I don't think its sampled. He must've re-created the beat in his 909.

@NoStress90s
Now why you gotta go and read my life story like dat? Though I was the big brother hoping me and my little had what it took to keep each other alive and beat this game.
For me it was big sis using blaze of course lol and me using skate
What a tune. Used to love this as a kid. Just kept restarting the game so I could listen to it. Class. ;)

Def a lot of emotion n this beat lol
Yeah
The jazz rap mix trance mix gives it a great feeling of sadness and hopelessness. Everything about city living in 3:49 seconds.
I have the SOR Collection downloaded on my 360 and I still play this from time to time. It's just awesome
soundtrack was fire
+Nate Dogg they did a great job including this awssom music in 16 bit machine

Played this awesome game with a blind friend of mine some years ago... gonna play it again soon. One of the best co-op games in history. We need more of these!
After growing up through "The Golden Age" of Sega up to PS3 now, I think I'm qualified to say this was

@shpoogy noogy lololoolololooololololol
It is now, hehe
Never thought about it when I played it but this is like awesome music for breakdancing
I think it's because Koshiro Yuzo went to local clubs for inspiration.
Arguably the best soundtrack ever!!!! To think this was all composed on a Midi player makes it that more amazing.
I have been looking for this for years! after all these years I have never forgotten that purple face over the city and this music. so great.
I'm 28 but I remember renting this at blockbuster when I was 9. This game changed the way I looked at games. It changed the way I perceived sounds and music in games. This game just transcends even today...
Puts a smile on my face. :) Would go on HOURS playing this with friends.
This is my childhood you're listening to right now. Me and my older brother on our Genesis late on a Saturday night. Nostalgic.

Yuzo Koshiro is the MAN! I can go on record and say that I remember thinking that music for this game was just awesome when I played it as a little kid. Brings me back to my childhood.
Damn, this is my favorite track from all Streets of Rage games.
I still hum this song to this day.
2:14, I love the transition into streets of rage 1's stage 8 theme. I count that theme as a secondary theme to Mr. X tbh
hehe...i was almost in tears after listening to this...one of the best games i have ever played...
Awesome. Brings me back such nice memories. Thanks dude.
I always loved this intro. it wasn't till I went to the music in the setting well after I played the game t hat I realised this tune went on for much longer than in the actual intro. I neally fell over when it did. Such a great game and music and time of my life, dam the memories.
It was so hard for me when I was a kid to finish this game because you need a second player in order to do that after all I still admiring this game
I'm already done this game 1 and 2

Sooooo excited for part 4 I'm so old lol.
Candie Cole Lol. You are not alone!
If I was a boxer, this would be my walkout theme.
Some parts (for example the one starting at 1:37) remind me of "I've been thinking about you" by Londonbeat (1990).
I still have the game on my Megadrive/Genesis and I love it. It's one of the best, if not the best beat em up game you can get. It was unique, the soundtrack, the graphics, you could play it in singleplayer, cooperative, player vs. player....awesome!
