I’m 45 and have hunted my whole life. The right way to hunt is actually feeling that. It’s respect and a connection. No shame in it at all. What makes me shake my head are those who kill to kill. I understand varmints...no problem there, but those yahoo’s that tag out and then use others tags...I just don’t get that.

@Predbeau101 I totally agree. I always take a moment when I approach the deer, bear or whatever, and thank them for their sacrifice to me. It's always a solemn situation and I try to utilize as much as possible. I don't understand trophy hunters at all. I personally wouldn't be able to live with it.

I've only recently got my very own rifle, I'd love to get out hunting at some point but for now I want to improve my accuracy before I try go hunting. If I'm going to hunt an animal I want to make sure I do it right.
I'm in Europe so there isn't much land or animals out there to hunt. Just foxes and rabbits and occasionally deer, but you need a farmers permission to go hunting on their land. That seems like it'll be the hardest part of getting started.

@Michael Williams thanks, thanks to the lockdown I didn't get many chances to get down to my local club to shoot but my accuracy is improving. I still get stray shots every so often but my grouping is good (All within 4cm) so I'll probably be stuck with targets and silhouettes for a while longer yet. Haven't found permission yet but a few of the club members go hunting in groups so once I'm ready I can ask to tag along I'm sure.

I would love to hunt, as I love to move in nature and to do things on my own. But here, you have to a) do a longer, expencive exam b) you have to pay a tax c) have to pay additional, if you acutally want to hunt in a specific region. Apart from that, you need a weapon-allowance which is also a costly course. Have not the time and money for that sadly.

Yes, Where Im from there was always plenty of land. everyone owns a ton of land...In my case, My Grandfather was a Gunsmith and I like most grand kids spent all my spare time with my Grandpa learning about guns and learning to work on them as I got older.. I was taught to be a great shot first before hunting was even discussed.. The Phase One shot one kill was drilled in my head and learning long range shooting was our favorite past time.. However,, I will admit I really didn't kill my first deer till I was 18 or 19... I loved to hunt I just didn't want to kill anything and my Grandpa was cool with that... I think he knew I just liked spending time with him... I always had a great time just watching the wildlife move around...👍👍👍👍

I Started fishing and hunting with my Dad at an early age. I caught my first Bream on a toy pole with real line hook and bobber at the age of 2. I got my fIrst Daisy Red Ryder at 7 and by 9 I was using it to hunt birds in the back yard. At 10 I went on my first hunting trip with my Dad no gun. Also at 10 I got my first pellet gun a Daisy 880 and at 12 I got my first gun a .410 shotgun and my first reall hunting trip with my Dad. At 13 a Ruger 1022 and at 15 a Marlin 3030 lever action. At 16 I bought my first break barrel pellet gun which was a China made .177 cal. Today at 52 I have gone back to my youth and gotten back into Air rifles. I have a Sam Yang Dragon Claw .50 cal PCP air rifle for large game and a Seneca Aspen .22 cal Multipump PCP for small game as my main hunting guns. With my Small caliber air rifles I can target shoot and plink in my back yard all year long and stay up on my accuracy and shooting skils and from time to time even hunt for Squirrels and Rabbits and maybe even a stray dove or 2 during dove season. No matter what guns you decide to get be sure and get some back yard friendly air guns to practise with year round. Even air pistols to practice with for your concealed carry and engage targets with is great training an fun.

I grew up in northern Minnesota. Hunting and fishing was our way of life. My children and nephews tell me I'm a terrible teacher. I can't seem to understand what or why they don't automatically know some of the basics. I forget that I was raised doing it. Much like speaking you learn more by playing and being in the woods than you think. So my best advice is to take gun safety first. Then grab a friend and get out in the woods and play. You dont need a gun at first. That will come later. First you need to watch and be amongst nature to understand and more importantly respect it. Out there you can be yourself. No one is around to judge you. And hey. You learn it little by little. Just relax and have fun. The woods and nature will teach you if you just watch and listen to it. Remember be safe. Tell someone where you are going, and when you will be back. Be sure to stick to those times at first. Bring a lighter, and stay as dry as possible. Other then that. Just have fun. The rest will come.

I first used a sling shot. It was as big as my arm and very clunky.😁 and then i got my hands on a decent Cross bow! I found that it's as accurate and deadly as a rifle, although the gun has a lot more range. but I find it isn't a "must have" for the species we hunt in the Scottish countryside and forests, with the exception of Deer, which is illegal to hunt anyway. Woodbeard is very lucky to live in such a majestic country as Canada. All that amazing wilderness in your back yard....it's a special wilderness I have on my visit list for sure. I am 63 years old and have never hunted in my life. Back when I was a teenager my brother and I did some basic trapping.
Today, because of the cost of meat, I want to learn how to hunt. I have a Savage 308 and a Henry 22 so I'm thinking of starting at a range,
so I get to know my weapon.
Then, after a few months, moving onto squirrel hunting with the 22, but it seems like that might be difficult since a squirrel moves so darn fast.
We'll see how that goes I guess.
Did anyone ever hire a Hunting Trainer / Mentor?
I'm wondering how that went. Part of me wants to but then part of me don't want to get with someone who is so far beyond me .....

Squirrel (can be taken with a .22 or a .410) . Land in South Carolina we have game management areas; you have to have a permit and a hunting license. My brother and I own a farm and due to legal issues and we have a working cattle farm we do not allow anyone to hunt or fish on our farm. People are so sue happy anymore!

The cliche "facts don't care about your feelings!" holds true, and the facts are that whatever you are hunting will have a a better life and in all likelihood a better death than any meat you have ever purchased. Don't let a little rabbit squeal make you forget that.

first aspect of hunting is gun safety .I have been hunting since I was8 years old .Hunting with my dad and brothers for rabbits and grouse.my first gun was a bb gun ,for squirrels .then to a pellet gun .I managed to take several rabbits and partridge with a pellet gun .at 11 years my friend and I HAD A RABBIT SNARE LINE WHICH CASE WE CARRIED OUR PELLET GUNS.I then moved up to a 22 or a 16 gauge shot gun when hunting rabbits and grouse with my dad.At age of 12 I recieved as a christmas gift my real gun a single shot 22 with a box of 22 short .I DON'T THINK i missed a day hunting for next 5 years .At 16 i purchased a 303 and shot my first 2 deer with it the first season I was able to deer hunt .i shot at least one deer with it for 14 years straight .MY SON now own that 303 and he has shot many deer with it also.I have taken deer with rifles, shotguns.long bow, compound bow ,and crossbow .Past few years I hunt large and small game with a 50 cal flintlock I have also taken moose and bear .at one time I enjoyed still hunting ,whichis slowly walking in the forest spotting deer or you game .At the age of 67 and having a steel hip and a steel plate in myy neck from breaking myneck several years ago I have slow down somewhat and do a lot of stand hunting, but on my good days I still enjoy my daysof taking walks ,as slow as a turtle and still to this day usually fill my deer and bear tags along with taking grouse and rabbits.I have taken many young hunters just beginning and teaching them some of my skills .Hunting is in my blood and will continue till I CAN,T PUSH A WHEELCHAIR THROUGH THE BUSH number 2 importance of hunting is survivial skills ,I have spent many a night in the woods ,you Must be prepared to survive as soon as you take that first step into the woods.3 years ago I : ME " THE GREAT OUTDOORS MAN WENT FOR A QUICK RABBIT HUNT NOT TELLING ANYONE where I was .All I took with me was my 22 and a box of shells ..well 12 miles driving the back road hunting for rabbits I had car trobles ,FIRST NIGHT WASNT TO BAD BUT THE NEXT DAY WAS A DOWN POOR AND WINDY DAY,i spent the day in the car and another night .next day I decided to light a fire to signal for help ,the forest was soak ,I did get a fire going and some wood burning by removing the plastic wheel covers from the car to get a decent fir going,I was learie of trying to walk out due to fact of not having any medication for my heart and puffers for my COPD plus a 12 mile walk with a new hip replacement several months earlier that day was very cold and my health was going down ,My on source of food way bottle of water and several small sugar packs for coffee I found in glove box, that night the temp fell to 14 below .i puy in one of the hardest nights of my life ,I was near death if I WERE TO FALL ASLEEP .i DID FALL ASLEEP A COUPLE TIME BUT MANAGED TO SHOCK Myself awake some how .the next morning at 6 am I gather what I could use to keep myself alive and managed to walk out the 12 miles and came to a house where I was rush to hospital .I had a few problems one was the freezing of my steel hip area .But as you can see I am here today.you all should watch all the WOODED BEARDMENS VIDEOS .HE HAS SOME VERY IMPORTANT IMFORMATION THAT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE AND A FRIEND LIFE SOMEDAY,,AND RULE NUMBER 3 Always let someone know where you are going and when you exspect to return ,RULE NUMBER 4 RESPECT ALL WILDLIFE AND MAKE A FAST HUMANE KILL AT ALL TIMES SO YOUR ANIMALS WILL NOT SUFFER NEEDLESSLY REALLY GOOD VIDEO AGAIN Mr.WOODED BEARDSMAN

I took hunters safety with my dad and went two years and didn't go hunting until was in my 30's just because I was bored and another guy asked me if I wanted to go out with him.
So I only shoot at standing or slowly walking deer and we don't get to scout out deer hunting and hunt public land so deer hunting isn't that great. We hunted private land for a few years but that guy ended up selling his land a few years ago after he could not get to his stand any more because of health.
We go up to his place to mess around for a few days and then hunt for a few days locally. We did not get any deer last year and only one of his sons was able to get out last year. So I figure in a few years I'll be done myself and get more into fishing.
My nephews are into deer hunting so the next generation is up.

Depends on your local laws but to start hunting you obviously need a gun i recommend a double barrel shotgun (16 geuge or 20)geuge if you never shot whith a shotgun, than you need a license, ammo, safety course, training, clothes and local hunting card.it's expensive but it's one off the best life time experiences. What i said was in a nutshell you should educate your self on guns, calibers and safety.Another thing is all the hate towards the hunters, but while hunting you will get respect respect for the animal and you will know what you re eating.remember that getting a gun is not just walking in a gun store and buying its a much longer process and i encourage you to educate yourself and others about this way of life!

I've been wanting to get my license here in S.Ont for years, but due to health reasons i can't make the 8 am start times and last till 5-6 p.m.
But i wouldn't mind owning firearms before the Gov removes them completely.

HUNTING: did most of mine in Texas: deer and feral pigs. I used .308 high power rifles and 12 gauge shotguns. They were necessary for wild hogs and more than enough for deer. I am a shorter, stouter type but I could train and I could manage somewhat heavy weapons. So can most of you. For extra excitement and combat training, my son and a friend used dogs to corner wild hogs and knives to make the kills. Just another way to get ribs to barbecue and sausage meat and cured hams to save without refrigeration.

I know i shouldn't, but the block for me currently is im too empathetic towards animals where I think about what about the animals children and think I would struggle to finish off an animal like a deer

My suggestions.. start with small game and find a local mentor to ensure you get hands on experience properly handling the meet.. The Best way to honor the life you have taken is to use the entire resources of the animal..

I had Great Grandfathers who hunted, but neither of my Grandfathers hunted. My father learned to hunt pheasants with a .410 from his Grandfather. After WWII, my Father started deer hunting with his Brother. When I was 13, I started to duck hunt. I shot my first deer with a Marlin 30-30 in 1962. My Granddaughter has the gun now, but she likes her 300 blackout better. I watch all of your videos because I like to learn new perspectives. FULL STOP!

There is a lot of time invested before you can hunt . These days you need to take a few days course to get your Pal . Then you have to wait to get your Pal. After that you need to take a hunting course for a few days . Then you need to purchase your hunting license and an Out Doors Card . Then which gun to purchase . All this takes time . If you want to hunt big game you have to wait for the season to open up . Not only that some game you need to apply for a draw . It's all time consuming . Then you have to find property to hunt on if you don't have any of your own . I laugh at people who ask me if I go hunting when fishing up North . Sorry no season open for big game . LOL Hunting is fun but as soon as you pull the trigger the work starts .

For those who are aftaid of anti hunters. Dont be afraid, because you must do whatever it takes to feed yourself and your families. So their mindsets and feelings shouldnt bother you, because your doing what it takes to survive. For those antihunters out there. You can have your feelings, but the hunters out there can can there feelings too.
