De Spuishuis you were asking for stood infront of you when you walk to De Gevangenepoort you even pass it. It was on the point where De Noord and De Zuid Zijde Haven split, it was in the middle of it. Nice tour. Thank you for your visit here. Houdoe !
There is a famous Dutch song about Bergen op Zoom from when it was under siege by the Spanish in the 17th century. It is called "Merck toch hoe sterck". You can find it on youtube :)
Nice. Since 3 months I work in Bergen op Zoom. It's fun you two where eating the Groffen koek in a place I can see from my office window. :) And about the Gevangenenpoort; yes, the prisoners where indeed held inside that tower. I happened to have gotten a tour of the tower last week, and they showed us the rooms where the prisoners where held. It's really interesting.
It's funy to se you people in Bergen op Zoom. I don't live that far away from it and i know all the places you visited including the Turkish Doner place. I used to eat during my brake miday back in the days when i worked in Bergen op Zoom.
Hope you had a lovely day in my home town. It’s funny to see it from your perspective. There are so many other things that are worth doing here. If you plan on visiting another time, I’d love to give some advice.
The center lane of that parking used to be water, it's been filled in as you mentioned. 't Spuihuis is a restaurant at the other end of that parking. You probably figured all of this out already, since you seemed to be walking in the right direction to find 't Spuihuis :)
@@buncharted2 Better luck next time :) By the way, if I may suggest something, have you heard of fortified town Willemstad? (not the one on Curaçao) It's actually quite close to Dordrecht. A beautiful place and good restaurants also 😄 You might want to check it out if you weren't already aware of it.
I lived in Halsteren for 10 years and very frequently visited Bergen op Zoom. And the one thing that we always did, was go and eat an icecream at Crusio's. It used to be two separate parlours, both in the Wouwsestraat with one being at one end (towards the trainstation) and the other one near the Grote Markt. But now it's just the one near the Grote Markt. But they have the most amazing Italian icecream I've ever tasted!! On another note: if you like a bit of historic buildings, you should visit my hometown Zierikzee sometime. It's fully packed with history. It's a small city but you can combine it with a day at the Oosterschelde National Park. Zierikzee is a bit difficult to reach by public transport since it has no train station. By train, you can come as far as Goes and take a 30 min bustrip to Zierikzee.
Crusio actually also opened a shop on the boulevard (but on the other side of the beach boulevard that Buncharted was at) And there a small Crusio shop next to the AH XL in the shopping centre "De Zeeland"
This is the city Grandfather made it to from Normandie. His regiment had the first one to be killed entering Bergen op Zoom at a bridge. The bridge to this day has a plaque Honoring the man And the Lincoln & Welland Regiment of Ontario 2 days later Grandfather would be wounded But tell no one Because he did not want to leave his unit. With a bullet in his shoulder he fought on Hours later he would be wounded yet again This time unable to walk And was dragged in a cellar by a Dutch couple..And from his story The amazing part was : "When i awoke I was on a make shift bed My wounds tended too, My rifle, My gear, all at the end of the bed with my rations And 1lb of Moose Jerky i intended to eat on the streets of Berlin" (A Native thing) "These poor people had not eaten a proper meal in weeks Maybe months / I told them to break out the food And eat it I will have more food afterwards But they need to eat" And in Dutch fashion And would be Canadian They made me soup And tea to drink anyways They found the moose to be abit odd But ate it. The husband waved down a company of men That took me away to a field hospital My unit shown back up at the house i was looked after And it was one of the points from then on for soup trucks As they dropped off rations too to the couple...Son if you ever get the chance to see Europe You must see the Netherlands And Bergen Op Zoom. Wonderful people Brave And full of life................ Thank you for saving my grandfather And thank you for this video to see
I was a bit disappointed in BOZ when I took the Car park next to the Jumbo. The stairway was some homeless habitat, full of dirt on the stairs. Further an OK, town.
OK can I weigh in in the discussion about bunjee jumping versus sky diving? I went for bunjee jumping and my brother (in a separate occassion ) went for a first course sky diving. I watched his experiences and those of his class mates. The objective is to do 8 jumps from a plane (Over Texel) to get an first certificate. All were first time jumpers. The venue is a HUGE grass flat area with only a few structures like the club building , some slootjes (ditches) and 1 tree. You get in this first course automatic parachute opening and those are the round parachutes. I have seen people land in the tree, into ditches, into the bike stand of the club house, slamming into the roof of the club house ... to be short a LOT went wrong just because people short circuit hanging there.. I went bunjee jumping from the bridge over the Zambesi river on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia near Victoria Falls. Its 125 m down. (410 feet ) and it was a thrill to never forget.. and to never do it again. The fear is not in the fall. It is not in the swinging up and down. It is when the movement is still and you wait for minutes to get someone to take you up to the bridge again. You WILL start to doubt if the towels around your feet are still tight. And the ropes around the towels and all the elastics. You hang for a solid few minutes upside down halfway between the bridge and the raging river. WOW !! Bergen op zoom is a cute town! I worked in Roosendaal for a few good years. Did you know this seemingly quiet area in Brabant has some of the most prominent synthetic drugs labs in Europe? They found in a close by village containers that were fitted to torture competitive criminals ? Very Mexico kartel stuff!
you made a great choice this is my home town if id knew you would go there id givven you some tips cus there are loads of hidden gems in bergen op zoom
You're kidding me, right?! That's where I live! You were here and I missed out on meeting you?! The tower of the church you were outside of, gets dressed up every year with carnival, and even gets to talk during the children's theatre play that's performed on that main square. Especially on the weekend
