    👍 funny we talked about this very subject last night. I had a pizza and soda delivered for 80 pesos and I gave him 100 and said keep it. He was extremely happy and thankful. I always tip and always try to tip in cash so I KNOW that person gets it without fees or taxes taken out.
    Merida isn’t a dog eat dog “LA” world. Neighbors help neighbors. 👍✌️❤️

      Awesome brother! Yes I also tip my pizza guy around 20 pesos and every time I call they already know me and my order! :)

    • @chrisb2535
      @chrisb2535 2 года назад

      Yeah, when you think about it, 80 pesos is only $4 US, which seems like a great deal for a pizza and soda. So $1 US tip seems like almost nothing (although it is 25%).

    As a US citizen I always tried give a little extra as karmic redemption for the negative attitude some of my fellow citizens and elected officials have shown toward Mexico,( we aren't all a-holes)Plus everybody is so damn generous and friendly why not?

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  3 года назад

      Exactly I think the people for the most part can separate the good from the bad apples they understand not everyone is the same. And yes when you give them that extra tip absolutely know you are one of the good ones

  • @chrisb2477
    @chrisb2477 3 года назад +2

    YES You are "The Man " 20 percent ! I agree ! Too many gringos told me 10 percent I never listen. I tell them when you are up in the USA how much did you tip there up there ? In Mexico they don't make much . Plus we get our dinners for HALF PRICE you covered it all every tipping situation I tip in every situation you mentioned I thought I was alone It's nice to know there's someone else out there like me and a friend of mine . I too made a video like this but haven't uploaded it yet . And I did leave my phone once in a taxi in Cuernavaca. I got it back and tipped. I also left my backpack in the backseat of a taxi in San Miguel de Allende and got it back . And tipped generously again . and everyone doing a service The grocery baggers too . Thanks for this outstanding video . The" cheapskates " wouldn't like to hear this . But this video should win an award . I will tell as many foreigners in Mexico about this video because the " cheapos " are trying to get others to tip only 10 percent so they don't look bad themselves or feel like they need to tip appropriately. People are poor who do service for us . Over a measly dollar or a few cents .Thanks for supporting the great people of Mexico .You are a man of conscience . Oh ! I got a suggestion for the "cheapskates " ! If they drink one less glass of wine everyday they 'll have enough money to tip appropriately ! This video deserves a Humanity Award !

      @JoseArteagaTravels  3 года назад

      Wow thank you so much for the kind words! I'm really glad this video has made such a positive impact. Trust me I've already had a few haters not happy that there are people like us who are willing to tip a few extra cents or more. And honestly from my experience there is more people like us who generously tip than the later. My hope is that those few extra pesos could actually make a small difference to some people. I remember being poor myself and sometimes not being able to get a good meal only because I was 1 dollar short. I always pay it forward and I salute those who do as well. Thanks again for your kind words glad this video was able to provide so much value to so many people!

    • @chrisb2477
      @chrisb2477 3 года назад +1

      That's EXACTLY and literally what it is , is a few extra cents . I've done the math on the difference between tipping 10% and 20% on a 10 dollar check at a restaurant in Mexico It's only a dollar . Some of the gringos got a lot of pension and Social Security money too ! @@JoseArteagaTravels

    • @chrisb2477

  • @bananapatch9118

    The problem I watched many years ago in Costa Rica is that when gringos started giving more money than a “Tico” normally would, it drove the price up to the point that Ticos were suffering this price increase. Not just on tipping but on many things. If gringos are handing say 20% to a taxi guy or waiter, they start getting used to that and now we have inflated the price. It doesn’t hurt us but it can hurt locals.
    I just try not to go crazy

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  3 года назад +3

      I agree no need to overtip everyone, but this area is already getting gentrified and the extra tips is only helping those still around to survive. One must look at all angles and not just blame a gringo giving 10pesos but in fact ask ourselves i wonder if that holiday inn express is actually what is causing the prices to go up.....

    • @chrisb2477
      @chrisb2477 3 года назад +3

      Tipping waiters is not a price increase The tip is separate from the check So we haven't inflated the price or cost of the meal . The price of the meal is on the menu Us giving a better tip doesn't inflate the price of the meal ! It's just that many foreigners are cheap and go to Latin America wanting to get everything at bargain basement prices at the expense of hardworking decent Latin Americans !

    • @chrisb2477
      @chrisb2477 3 года назад +2

      Tipping a waiter doesn't drive up the price of a meal . They need a fair tip What do Gringos tip up in the USA ?

    Great video once again. You really provide very entertaining and educational content. Thank you! One time I stayed at a hostel with a friend in the mountians in oaxaca, and it was 150 pesos. Basic facilities, but the beds were comfortable and clean. There is a caretaker there who does everything. The housekeeping, reception, security, and just helping the guests with anything. Dude lives in such impoverished conditions.. Litterly in a cold concrete box. His service was great. He was always there to help, and he was a genuine good guy. Gave him a 100 peso tip and with that he could eat a bit better. I feel really content that I helped out a little. True lots of mexicans don't tip. Not normally from greed, but because they can't afford to financially. So if you don't tip in mexico, people don't really take offence. So I would say compared to Canada and the US there is less of an expectation to tip.

    I wonder how Mexican consumers feel about this video. I am not referring to waiters/waitresses, as they would love the biggest tips possible. For example, will tourists tipping 20% cause workers/waiter/waitresses to *expect* 20% in the near future, instead of the national customary 10%?
    I imagine in the USA, the customary tip was 15% at one time, but now I see restaurants expect 20-22% and even put it in the bill, as it is the expectation now.

    I tip 20 percent in the US and so thx for yr recommendations.
    And the view of the city from yr 🚲 .
    If we are coming from the US can we tip in dollars easy to give someone one to two to three dollars.

    • @JoseArteagaTravels
      @JoseArteagaTravels  2 года назад

      I would only tip in pesos. If you tip in dollars now you are giving the person extra work, they have to go and manually exchange it themselves. But for example If you are in certain super touristy areas that are expensive like Cancun they will be more than happy to accept your dollars or euros because they can actually use it themselves in their local economy without having to exchange it.
