@dougiewhite778 Apparently, Adrian left the band in 1986 after becoming disillusioned with the musical direction Phil Oakey was taking and had felt marginalized during the recording of the album Crash in Minneapolis. After the Human League he worked in film before moving into design. He works with his partner, Tracey Boyd, on her fashion label. They live in Chelsea, London.[
Originally brought in just to handle the visuals (slides) for the Human Leagies show, he got promoted to keyboard player when the girls joined . . and the rest, as they say, is history. This footage it the first and only time I have heard him speak :-)
Ive never heard him speak either...i missed all those 'League interviews on breakfast TV cos..i was only a kid...i was only a kid..How the hell have you managed to keep this footage all this time....who cares, thank you so much!!!!
I remember seeing this interview over 30 years ago YIKES! Adrian is a really nice bloke it seems, very unassuming and polite. He reminds me quite a bit of Chris Lowe in the Pet Shop Boys with his general manner and character. What a pity he was "squeezed out" of the Human League line up along with Jo Callis and Ian Burden....from which it never really recovered in my opinion.....
+lincoWye17 He wasn't squeezed out. He didn't like the direction the band was going in and his relationship with Philip became distant. He left because he had enough.
+lincoWye17 I agree he's a lovely guy and too nice for the league. Yes, it would seem that Burden was pushed out, he pretty much says this himself, as for Jo it would also seem that way because Ian said Phil wanted to be the only songwriter. As for Adrian - he doesn't say so in so many words but I think he was- that is the consensus of many. Yes, as Jason points out his relationship with Philip was distant and I don't think he really got on with the remaining members??? Just my view. As for the direction of music, Phil says that the Jimmy Jam move was Adrian's idea in the book rip it up but from what I read elsewhere it wasn't. However, that Jimmy Jam was only temporary - why leave because of 2 producers you were never going to see again? There's more to it than that I am sure.
+Jason M. Klein Yes, he was but from what he said in an interview - that Phil and girls wouldn't listen to his opinions and did things without consulting him - it seemed he was pushed out too. But we don't know the other side of the story
How unprofessional! I have never heard of any other interviewer asking someone if they are short of a few bob! My answer to them would be yes I am, could you reimburse my airfare please.
Did they ever get an interview with Ian Burden?? He really was the glue (along w/ Jo) that held the group together and co-penned so many of their hits... It's so sad since 1990 on, it's been the Phil-Joanne-Susanne show w/ an anonymous backing band & ProTools.
salvadormarley Absolutely. And those two are so patronising, Adrian is so nice, I don't know how he kept his patience with them. I would have walked out, I think.
@sminkyminky oh i was just stating what id heard Jo C state in an interview !! I knew you statement said "I think". it was like seeking clarification.. They are really well grounded girls, :-)
Went to school with Adrian,Thornes house in wakefield. Same class for art. Nice bloke.
Wow thanks for the info! I never knew that he went to Thornes House? I'm from Wakefield, so it's really interesting trivia ;-)
Adrian is such a nice chap!
He lives Chelsea, London with his girlfriend Tracey Boyd and helps her work on her fashion label and continues to do work in film.

Ann Diamond clearly didn't do any research.
"I suppose it gets tiring jumping around the stage"

Ian Burden was with the band until 1989.
Jo Callis still occasionally writes a song or two for the League every now and then. I saw somewhere that he reformed the Rezillos.
+Jason M. Klein Yes, he was but from what he said in an interview - that Phil and girls wouldn't listen to his opinions and did things without consulting him - it seemed he was pushed out too. But we don't know the other side of the story
the coolest ginger ever
Sensacional
Adrian is very nice, I like him 💛
"Have you never heard of Stephen King?" = OWN3D!!!!!!1

5:20 FINALLY! Now we know where the name come from
First interview I’ve seen of him. What’s he up to now?
oh my goodness how can you not know stephen king? helooo? ps concorde? what a snob
@interjet I think Phil and 'the girls' did move to America but (according to wikipedia) Adrian lives in Chelsea, London.
A journalist and she's never heard of Stephen King. Laughable.
Exactly. Who hasn't heard of Stephen King? Even those who may not be into Stephen King have heard of him.
Yes Eimear, it's like not knowing who Elvis was.
salvadormarley

Instrumental in slashing cot death in the UK from 2000 a year to 300 so she's got that on her side.
Where did Anne Diamond get that dress from,a museum?
Looks like it's made from a pair of old curtains
@JohanR888 That's Northern girls for you - very 'down to earth!'
hahah they are looking at him as if he's from another planet which of course he is ie SHEFFIELD
@JohanR888 you are quite right. I stand corrected :-) In my defence, I only said that I 'thought' they moved to America :-)
@sminkyminky ive seen the girls in interviews and they have stated they have never left sheffield.
Isn't he sweet? So delightfully unsophisticated.
He is!
@sminkyminky oh i was just stating what id heard Jo C state in an interview !! I knew you statement said "I think". it was like seeking clarification.. They are really well grounded girls, :-)
@sminkyminky I always thought they lived in America ?
09weenic, no she obviously didn't. Keyboard players and slide projectionists don't do they? And they can't.
Never left and are always slagging off in interviews the likes of ABC, Pulp, etc. for, unlike them, leaving Sheffield.
Have never liked Diamond....horrid woman then even worse now
