- TBT - For those of you who haven't seen this winch cable field repair video from our friend Keller McCowen, enjoy!
This is a great informative video on how to trail splice a broken winch wire rope. Keller McCowen splices a steel cable eye using the Molly Hogan knot technique. Although none of us here at Factor 55 have ever personally performed this trail repair, it looks to be some useful knowledge to have. Great job Keller!

This is the kinda stuff I watch and feel like I'm not wasting my time on the internet...thx
Good to know, I feel like I learned something useful
That was beautiful.
Great demonstration!
I learned to use this type of slice 55 years ago. It’s been a time and money saver ever since. Dakota Fred Hurt
I watched this video years ago. It actually helped me get out of the bush the other day. I was stuck, stranded, and without service. It kind of just back to me! Thank you!
Great Vlog. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I will be using the Molly Hogan splice.
The longer the tail the stronger the loop. Great Video. We had a big 1 inch cable we did this on dozens of times dragging a suburban full of sand out of the river.. 6 foot tail is when it finally started holding....
🤯You the Man!!! Thank you
The molly is an excellent field loop. Cable clamps are less ideal but will suffice when properly tourqed and used in the proper quantity
Thank you for the video hate for the final wrap up I would just use a tie wrap
thanks buddy! 👍🏻
that's good one!

THANKS, another skill good to know, hope not to need... 💙💙💙
I want to see a bruiser splice or a long short splice
Awesome! Thanks! Will this work on the synthetic cable too?
For synthetic rope, watch this.

Dont you watch your video before posting?
Do you know how to do a running splice on a 6x6 cable
Hi Randy, do you mean you have 6 wires that make up your cable rather than 7 like shown in the video? If so, the technique should essentially be the same. We would suggest contacting your local rigging supply shop for any specific details. Thank you!
