    Love my 2017 Competitor! Solid boats all around. Only complaints are flimsy glove box door cable and not self draining storage. Also windshield support bars could have stronger attachments to console. We run it fairly hard here in Canada and love love my boat. Paint quality is amazing and interior finish quality is good. Glad to see a larger livewell for those big walleye. DON'T UNDER POWER YOUR BOAT.

    If you are a fishing guide and you buy an Alumacraft boat the warranty goes from a 10 year warranty to a 1 year warranty. You would think a company who claims to know anglers would not cut fishing guides warranty’s. This is not just about me but any guide or angler who uses this product. There are tons of great company’s out there who understand the angler. Support them !

    I love my 2017 Alumacraft, but I wish Alumacraft would step it up in terms of the dashboard material, their plastic console cracking issues, and dry storage. The dashboard material as well as the consoles are made of a cheap plastic, and Alumacraft owners for years have had to worry about their consoles cracking at some point. ALso, other manufactures have really improved their storage compartments by adding a channel around each compartment to control water, keeping it out of the storage compartments. These seem like they would be very simple fixes, that Alumacraft still as not addressed. Overall their boats are very reliable and are well built. Its the little things I mention that for 35K-45K you would think they could make it happen.

      How does Alumnacraf's gull wing hull compare to Lund's IPS hull design with reverse chines and a flat keel at the transom?

      I've heard of Lund having the cracking console problems too. Apparently they get their consoles made from the same company.

    I was looking at this same boat along with a Tracker Targa V-19 Combo. I went w/the Tracker because of the 102" beam, the boat was heavier and had a lot more storage. Felt it would do better in big water and so far I have not been disappointed. I wanted to look at the Alumacraft 20 ft. Trophy but it was too expensive.

      Hey Mike , I'm seriously considering the Targa V-19 combo , just curious to see what size of engine you went with and top end you are getting using what prop. Thanks

  • @daniels2761

    Great review! It seems like the main pro of this model is the amount of storage (I am assuming skis could be placed under the front deck in lieu of rods, since there are other rod storage locations) and the cooler in the cockpit. Overall I think the layout is a bit better than Crestliner or Lund. The downside is the limitation to 175 HP in the 18' model. I would get the 20' with a 250, however, the 205 isn't available in VSX trim.

    Out of curiosity, are you guys recording in an interlaced format? I ask because I'm seeing a lot of de-interlacing artifacts. I have seen it on other channels as well recently, and haven't seen de-interlacing on youtube for several years now, so it's odd to see it now.

    • @axscdvfb
      @axscdvfb 3 года назад

      Yes I see that too. I don't think anyone should be using interlacing equipment now. I am wondering if it's due to encoding/decoding issues with RUclips or with the Chrome browser. Maybe RUclips switched to a more compressed encoding format that has interlacing artifacts? The interlacing effect seems very bad if I am viewing in "windows" mode, but gets better in full screen mode.

    • @axscdvfb
      @axscdvfb 3 года назад

      It's pretty funny that 5 year old videos from BoatTest don't have these interlacing effects.

    • @FlesHBoX
      @FlesHBoX 3 года назад

      @@axscdvfb Yeah, at this point I can't imagine it's that a bunch of channels are just still using old cameras, or encoding to interlaced formats or anything like that, especially since, like you mention, it doesn't happen on older videos, or even all recent videos.
      I've checked it in firefox as well and it happens there as well, so I'm fairly certain it's something on youtube's end.

      @axscdvfb 3 года назад +1

      @@BoatMan_ I see a few recreational aluminum boats at my (salt water) marina. They seem to be doing OK, but I am a little worried that the paint may peel off after soaking in sea water for a few years. On the other hand, many commercial fishing boats are made of aluminum, and they certainly would last a long time. However, they use much thicker plates and no paint.
