Exploring the two sides of San Juan - Sailing Uma [Step 69]

- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- In all the places we drop our anchor, we seem to always have a project to do on Uma. But we also try our best to make time to explore and get a feel for each area. We were amazed to see that San Juan has distinctively two sides: The full of big box stores part of the city, and the full of history and colors part of the city. Both have their importance and both were useful while we were there.
If you enjoyed this episode, please give it thumbs up, it helps us out a bunch :)

It’s hard to comprehend how Good you are at the “ Boat Projects” that
You tackle... 👍✅
Dude I know right!! I don't know if you are still watching their channel but what they have done to this boat is friggen crazy awesome! 🤪😁😁😁
Okay guys. I've watched several other "sailing vlogs" and I've decided, yours is the best. Your channel is fun and exciting, but most of all, you show all of us how to live the dream you are currently living. It's great to see how you deal with the daily problems of sailing and boat repair, while still living your dream.
Kika-Boo & Dan Juan take us on an wonderful adventure... Good job guys.
I took some really nice photos from the ladies room at that fort. People are always amazed when I say I took them from the bathroom. Thanks for sharing your awesome adventure.
I like the longer episodes. nothing to apologize for there. Great tour. I learn something new every episode. You guys are wonderful story tellers! Liked and shared!
Hahaaaaaaa you finally did the Titanic "I'm the king of the world" pose! At just after 12:45 i laughed my butt off. 😂🤣🤣🤣
Youuuuuu silly kids, you.
I spent a month in PR when I was in the military and loved it. I’ve wanted to go back ever since and take my wife with me so she could see how great it is. We just haven’t been able to make it there. Maybe some day.
Sadly I can only like the video one time only, other wise I would hit that button 100x :) I used to live 15 min away from SJ and I miss all those walks. Talk about relief stress for free! haha, it was great... BTW, on that last bench you guys talked, right behind on the top lives the Governor Of PR.
Raul Rosado Tu también sigues a esta gente. Jeje Saludos
I like the longer videos for what it is worth.
You are a very lucky guy! She is ADORABLE!!!!!! Her laugh is to die for!!!
i love old San Juan, the old cafe's, bars, the people. the other side of San Juan always reminds me of Atlantic City or other places in the States.
Wonderful video, very educational. You two are a wonderful couple and very enjoyable to watch and enjoy.
I love watching your projects!
Another great video! All your projects are done so well, it's really interesting seeing you tackle the projects! Was just wondering if there was a reason behind all the cats when you explained it! Your enthusiasm and optimism is infectious! Thank you!
LOVE, Love, love your videos...and find myself looking forward to the next one! Continue safe on your journey, and all the best, Mick.
In case it wasn't obvious... you are awesome people.
By the way. I love you guys. God bless every nautical miles!!
Your videos are great because of your talented videography, your lovely attitudes and personalities, your clever boat repairs and of course the travel documentary😃
You guys are a great couple! Love your videos.
I just watched this again, its do much more fun when I have been to the same places as you guys, too bad this is the only one, well hopefully I will get to my boat soon. I shared this to my friend because we were taking about it today.
Just watched this one. San Juan is one of my favorite places. Love Old San Juan. I have been there several times. Even on the Disney ship you videoed coming in the harbor. I can't wait to get back there.
I have loved all of your videos and appreciate you sharing your travels. But for the life of me I can't understand how in the world you got ANY thumbs down! You and your videos are awesome!
In case it still was not obvious ... You are an awesome couple ...
wow that mosaic work looked amazing!
Awesome videos, enjoyed the forts and ghost noises. 😆🤗
Fun episode thanks &Cheers!
Step 69 Nice 👌
Went to San Juan on cruise as well, missed old San Juan.. our loss. Did a horseback ride tour. Fun but forts looked better than I expected.
Watching this in November after Puerto Rico was so terribly devastated by this summer's hurricanes, is definitely bitter sweet. I've made four trips to Puerto Rico, the Turks & Caicos, Tortola in the BVIs, St. Thomas and St. John in the American Virgin Islands and poor Barbuda for the American Society of Civil Engineers as part of the infrastructure evaluation study for the UN/World Bank. The devastation is literally unimaginable in all the northern Caribbean and I am working mainly on large infrastructure projects: the power grid, the communications grid, roads and bridges and water supply. Loving your videos but the shadow cast by the unforeseen approach of Irma and Maria casts a pall over the sweet innocence of your adventures. Be well guys. Glad to see the windless installation. Long overdue! Writing this from aboard my Swan 68 here in Greenwich, CT as we prepare for a long term trip to our place in Tortola. Hope to see you in our travels!
Great video guys! Very fun and informative, picturesque and inspiring! 👏🙌
Great video... LOL... wonders why West System epoxy is so expensive... as he stands in West Marine. 😁
Best video yet
Kika, you should be yelling "KIKA-BOO!"
+shanemccurdy hahahaha thats awesome! Noted for next time ;)
i tot she was
Thanks a lot for all the good tips on places in Puerto Rico! Seems like we'll be able to get a lot of stuff done there and also enjoy many cultural places. The best combination! Thanks for another great episode guys!
Hi, I am a new subscriber.
Yesterday, I watched the first 63 videos back-to-back.
I really like you two for who you are.
I identify with you in so many ways although, I am English and live in England, my grandfather was born in Toronto, Canada and his grandmother was a native of the Caribbean. Even though I am predominantly white I have always identified as mixed race and have been tracing my ancestry for over two decades. I have a love for motorcycles and adventure and am now contemplating getting a sailing boat and selling up.
I have been accused of writing War and Peace in my scribblings and boring people to death.
So, I will keep this short.
I see in this one, Dan is cutting up corrugated plastic which brings me to another channel I watch and this is ElkinsDIY.com - Paul Elkins makes boats out of this stuff and many other projects, he calls it Coroplast.
I love also that you use the correct personal protective equipment and are aware of the dangers to your health. Many RUclipsrs are leading many astray with their lack of personal protection and sending out the wrong message.
Your channel must be the most perfect to watch, apart from here and Amazon Prime I do not watch anything else. It is so interesting to watch you engage with others, your content is spot-on and you are easy on the eye.
I am looking forward to catching up to present day but with the current situation, it is great watching personal interactions of yesteryear.
All the best for the future and safe travels.
That was a high quality explore.
another gorgeous video! love the gadget window shopping! after half a year in lonely islands we are doing the same in bangkok right now 😁
Right on :)
@1:38 we have one of those water masts in the Folly River, there a buoy marker, but I might paint it orange.
The editing is amazing in this episode
Things I learned from watching Uma:
1.If you want to Sail become an Engineer first.
2. Eat Right. Exercise.
3. Strangers are just friends you haven't met first.
I just stumbled across you guys and watched like 8 videos that is so cool how you guys just sail around do you guys work while you sail or did you work for a few years and save up a bunch of money and then set sail
Thanks
Its no wonder Kika is small. Her endless energy probably burns her thousands of calories a day! Love it. And I now want to go explore some forts.
fun fact :the spiral stairs go that way to favour the defenders who would be right handed so would have the advantage in defending the fort
Great Video !
Go to Mosquito Bay!
Puerto Rico!!!!!! The fort, The fancy resort, The public beaches with kiosks, The rainforest!!!, and...the awesome Puerto Ricans, sooooo friendly :)
Great videos. How did I miss that your auxiliary is EP?! Looking forward to an update. Regarding the refrigerator unit, do you have any concerns about a hose or fitting failure and the pump continuing to pump water into the boat? Did they address that issue in the engineering?
If you ever replace your batteries , check out the " firefly Oasis " carbon foam batteries ! Sealed maintenance free , can be completely discharged hundreds of times without hurting them , hold a charge for a super long time , and charge up 100% very quickly ! Check out the RUclips videos about these , they are a game changer !
Thank you for your videos, we are on the road in Queensland, Australia after restrictions were lifted, so am catching up on earlier videos. If and when you head this way, come to both coasts of this vast land, there are so many beautiful places to enjoy both by land and water. I can see that you two really love each other despite the challenges you face, thanks again, Wim Baas
Hi Dan and Kika woo hoo BVI here come we will be there in 3 weeks We hope to run accross you guys there. Our boat name is Panasea a 46ft cat that will be playing loud Haitian music. We will be on Anegada the 30th and 31st of May, Cane Garden bay on the 1st of June, Jost Van Dyke on June 2 and 3 and Norman Island on the 4th. We have lots of fun hope you can join us specially at Little harbor on Jost
You guys rock! I just love your energy and willingness to tackle anything. Thanks for the great videos.
I guess no one is old enough to remember a reference to the 60's TV series " The Flying Nun ".
Dan were you cutting into Uma's knees to install the sliding doors? if so how did you determine what level of impact that would have on the structural integrity of the boat? I really love the way you guys come up with out of the box solutions for boating challenges. Thankyou both for sharing your inspiring work and adventures 😊
OSJ is one of my favorite places, we got engaged after an evening stroll to Hotel El Convento. Hope you got to explore at night with the forts all lit up, one of the best places for night photography!
Thanks for the donation yes is call (Save a Gato) they help them in old san juan.
I was actually creeped out in that dungeon.
Episode 69
nice.
We were on the Disney Magic cruise ship that was parking next to you guys. We walked around old San Juan and it is very beautiful
Love the video!! I think I need to visit this place!
Kikka should be careful NOT to wear a " Daughter's of Charity " order of Catholic Nun's habit.
She is the perfect height to weight ratio and the aerodynamic quality of the Nun's Habit and head dress would cause
her to fly into the air just like Sister Bertril.
Been to San Juan. Have a whole album on my website, dreamdigitalimages.com. I love Old San Juan. It is amazing. I totally understand what ya'll are saying about it. It's incredible.
Can't I adjust my monthly maximum on your $5 + Patreon? I'm going to try again.Great work you guys.
PM us if you're still having trouble. You should be able to, we'll be happy to help if we can. Thanks for signing up though. You're the BEST!
You've got to like a poo with a view. You're showing a unique perspective on the Caribbean.
The boat protects oh thr boat project!! I love them! Best DIY RUclips channel. I just love all of your videos thank you thank you thank you😊😊
Are you planning to visit Europe, I live in Sweden and we have thousands of small island. We call it "skärgård".
YUP!! Hoping to cross in spring of 2018! But, plans change all the time. It's certainly on our list to spend a year or two exploring Europe. Sweden looks lovely (at least in the summer) hehe.
Yes, my old Sweden is great, but… Norway is even a lot greater from a sailing perspective.
Did I here a didgeridoo in the ending?
I love your videos . . . but I also liked 14 nights L.A. to Hawaii and return on the Celebrity Summit. I love every opportunity to step aboard a boat - even the big ones!
Hi we are Puerto Rico locals and we will love to meet you guys at what Marina are you staying ?
Yes Puerto Rico USA is one Excelente island is my island I LOVE it very munch
Saludos from Puerto Rico ,love you guys, thanks for the kind words,☀️🏖️🇵🇷💦
WOW you guys are in Old San Juan I love that place. The old Cathedral is so cool reminds me of Haiti. You guys should go to lunch at the Old Billy Goat ( English translation) in Old San Juan my wife and I still talk about the food there. They good drinks as well. I do not remember the Spanish name. Have fun

I do like your travel adventures and the places you visit but the projects you undertake are just great, so ingenious, you are very handy couple transforming Uma in a great little yacht on a budget. I take my hat off, well done. greetings for oz
Great video. 😎
As always, great fun to watch your vids and being playful and enjoying your travels.
Imprisoned circus clown. Where? In the calabozo.
So glad you guys made it, i miss Puerto Rico so bad. while I'm watching I'm biting my tongue wanting to tell you all the cool stuff near where you are and when you were talking about big box city, how there is a whole mellow and beautiful places on the top left side of the island. but from where you are there is some cool stuff, bio bay, rainforest, and a ton of waterfalls i have found in my trips. I really do hope you have some time to really explore in all directions from san juan. if you do make it out left, please stop and say hi to rincon for me.
that last one isnt walk like a dog lol, its clean up after your dog
And the joke went right over your head.. what happened to your sense of humour?
its a U.S. territory thats why Walmart and best buy and so on
Ahoy mates, welcome to my native island. Born and race in San Juan, P R.
you just walk through my childhood playground. Thank you for such beautiful comments. Glad you enjoy your stay. Bienvenidos a Puerto Rico.
You walked in my steps guys been to the fort many a times in my 71 years .and to SJ the old city good and yes bad memories but that's life.
Guys... Love your vids! My wife and I lived in St. Thomas. I'd like to hook you up with friends in St. Thomas. Please message me if interested. They are upright folks. They will treat you right. TK
Pentax cameras and the DA line of lenses are all good for salt water environments. Every joint in them is sealed with an o-ring.
Good to know. We'll look into that. Thanks for the tip.
That corrugated plastic is great stuff! I built a $50 dingy out of a sheet of it last summer. (Search my channel for "M/V Dodgy Roger I" if you want to see it).
I was wondering how your feet were holding up in those flats. You need more sturdy walking shoes for sightseeing. Even a good pair of running shoes will make your feet happy puppies. I noticed Dan ditched the flip flops.
haha, we do have other hiking shoes but at first we really didn't even think the walk would be this long.
In case it still was not obvious ... You are an awesome couple ...
Just binge watched all of your Steps over the past view days -- very enjoyable. Fair winds and smooth sailing to both of you! Subscribed.
LOVE your editing and camera work. Very nicely done.
Puerto rico has all that..because is part of the United States..
Great job...if someone can watch u 2 and not smile, they must be dead inside.
You always make me smile.
Epic shots walking. I loved that montage.
I am so glad you are having a great time in San Juan but don't forget to check out the rest of the island, you will enjoy it .
You both are very entertaining, and always enjoy watching your videos. Thank you.
Thanks for exposing Puerto Rico to the rest of the world
Hi Love,,, now she,s all pretty sell her and get a cruise ship hahahaaa great videos !
Puerto rico is an associated state of the USA so i guess thats why all those US stores are there
