That’s certainly a progression over the years! Very impressive. We had a rooftop, swag, oztent, camper trailer, caravan. So much like you, worked our way through to find what we liked 😂. Very interesting info about the ensuite too, we don’t have one in our current van and to be honest… we don’t really miss it. We have other ways to shower and toilet etc. what have you found to be the easiest showering option?
We also have a porta potty that fits in a cupboard inside the van so that makes the toilet part of it easy for us. If we are staying somewhere that requires us to be self contained we just don’t shower there 😂. We will either find a free or low cost shower somewhere, or use baby wipes inside the van 😂. We aren’t precious and don’t mind going a few days without a proper shower 😆.
We have a caravan. Great for full family (us and 2 kids). We’re all about next to no set up / pack down time. And security, and comfort, etc. it’s great. We have a full shell 20 foot dual axel van with shower and toilet. It’s a European van and only weighs 1.7tonnes with all our stuff in it. Only really for sealed roads though.
Thank you for sharing, I just got a van very similar to yours. I’m the same camper swag ect in pass the van is 2006 and basic but best thing I’ve ever done , wake up with rain no worries ,
I'm sure you're the same as us, wouldn't change the progression for anything haha. We loved the roof top tent, tent, swag, camper trailer, caravan...it's all part of the experience. As for the van being simple and basic....thats just one of the reasons we love it haha
We had a rear fold camper trailer and after a particularly windy trip on the south coast of WA I said no more if we're going to camp I want to it to be fun so we ordered a 13ft hybrid with all the gear, sold our trailer and now feel like we're living the life of a king when we're away. To me it's a no brainer but having said that I did enjoy loads of our trips away with the trailer so not totally dissing them
Haha good old windy west strikes again hey! We did WA two years ago with our rear fold and that almost broke us 😂😂. Also we are the same as you, life our caravan but certainly had some cracker times in the camper.
We agree with you 100%! The easier the better. There’s no reason to make life harder for yourself when travelling. Doesn’t matter if that’s fulltime or a week or even a weekend. The simpler the better. We are going to be following a van tour very shortly, is there anything particular you would like to know in the video? Any questions or topics of particular interest? We want to make sure we cover everything 👌
This 100% confirms my regret of buying the forward fold camper. Should have got the hybrid instead. That said the camper can definitely get to places a hybrid can't
There's pros and cons of every setup. If you had of asked us when we had the rear fold camper if we wanted to upgrade to a forward fold we would have loved it! You're right though, the ease of towing a camper and places it can go can make a difference.
Great video. We are waiting for our new Lifestyle Reconn R2SE before we leave to travel full time in 12mths. We just can't face doing it in our current camper for many of the reasons you mention.
Thanks so much, just subscribed to your channel :) Those Lifestyle Recon's look good! Can't say I've been in one in person, but from what I have seen they look comfy and off road capable. Camping is one thing, fulltime travel is another. Fingers crossed the next 12 months flies by real quick for you and you're on the road before you know it!
@@Explore_oz thanks 🙏 Yes I always say don’t wish time away but man can’t wait for the camper so we can start the shakedowns to get ready to leave. If we had it already we would leave sooner but I have to try learn some patience 😂 Thanks for your story we enjoy your videos.
@filthyjeepadventures you’re so right about not wishing time away, and you’ll find that once you’re on the road time really will go quickly. Shakedown trips are often the best and most exciting we find. Gives you a chance to figure out what does and doesn’t work for you, and gets you more and more excited for the next trips.
Interesting video guys, thanks for sharing your experiences. We switched our setup on our current lap, the weather has such a big impact! We have a slide on camper on the back of our ute, but can definitely see the appeal in a caravan someday!
What did you have before the slide on camper? We do love the simplicity of those. Can yours be taken off pretty easy to go out without it, or too much work to worry about it?
@@Explore_oz we actually changed slide on campers. So we use to have a Trayon, which had a lot of canvas, so really felt the wind and rain. Now we have a Tommy Camper which is simple and easy to use. However sometimes (like tonight) the wind and flies were pretty bad so would have loved to have been able to cook inside 😂
Ah ok that makes sense. I watched your video on the Tommy Camper, looks really cool! We feel you on the wind factor, sometimes it's just unbearable haha. As for the flies....they are always annoying 😆😅
Haha so you know all about the luxury a van can offer 😂. We agree with you 100% about the sunnies. We are going to be wearing them less / if at all in future videos.
Second that towing course, should be mandatory :p I’m currently setting up the 12v side of this van, it’s a biiiiig set up ;). Hopefully get some footage of that.
The things we’ve seen ok the road… it can be a very scary place to drive! We’re super keen to see your van and what setup you go with. Make sure to get that footage!! How many hours you looking at running?
ohhh such a good question!! We just sat down for a while and thought about this after you asked, and guess what? We honestly can't think of any thing in particular. Because we had the camper for two years we had everything we 'needed' already. If anything it's more about the ease of access to everything. We don't have to unpack and pack stuff all the time. Just open a cupboard and it's right there. We are actually finding that we have to be more careful with the caravan in regards to how much 'stuff' we have. Just because you have the cupboard space doesn't mean you have to fill it. It's very easy to go overweight if you're not careful.
Obviously math isn't a strong point 😁🤣.14.9 camper , 16.4 caravan = 1.5lt not 2.5 difference , not bad at all . $3 extra /100 km . Interesting video .subscribed .
You have a very similar name to Nathan's channel. Who's was the first channel Nathan's or yours. Oh please done spdnd the majority of time in fron of the camera show us around where you are.
Sorry I can’t say I know who Nathan is so I can’t comment about ‘who came first’. As for spending time in front of the camera v showing around where we are… this video has nothing to do with our surroundings, only discussing our own experiences between a camper trailer and caravan. Thanks for the comment though 🙏
Agree with some of your pros.... I had a caravan for 10 years. It was ok. But too much hassle.. Sold it and got a soft floor camper trailer 14 years ago. It's gone places you couldn't take a caravan. Can't carry a boat on a caravan! I can be set up in 10 minutes!
Some very interesting points there. How was your caravan too much hassle? You're right, your camper can go places that our caravan can't but we will still take it places that other people won't take there's 🤣 As for a boat, we can put it on top of the triton if we wanted to 👍
Do you have a camper trailer or caravan? Would you change from one to the other?
That’s certainly a progression over the years! Very impressive.

Informative vid.
We had a camper trailer for 7 years and loved it but don't regret upgrading to a van, so much room, comfort and quick to set up.
Geez, that's something i never though I'd here you say! Caravan life got you good now has it? 😂
Awesome vid guys. Amazing you spent 2 years in a camper trailer. 👊👍😘
hahaha and we managed to still be together after that!
After towing a van, the convenience is a no brainer.
We really did love camper life, but it just wasn't practical for fulltime travel.
It would be good to go back to the basics of it one day though.
Too video guys, very informative, keep up the good work
Thanks so much legend 👌

Great video. I had a camper trailer years ago. Just recently I was in a position to buy another and decided to get a caravan instead … love it 💯🇦🇺
We absolutely loved our time in the camper, but yeah upgrading was probably overdue and well needed 😂
What caravan did you end up getting?
That's why we have a kitchen in a caravan, I too cook inside no shame at all and we don't think it's stinky. Enjoy!😊
We have to admit, sometimes it’s just easier as well 😂
What caravan do you have?
Coromal pop top, we love it, it's perfect for us
@Michelle_Emm hahaha brilliant! Guessing you have no issues with cooking inside?

Glad it was helpful! :D
Nice video. Easy to watch. We went from a camper trailer to a pop top and its sheer luxury. It’d be better if you lost the sunnies. 😊

@@Explore_oz haha every weekend we aren’t doing anything, it’s pissing down 😂. It’s literally just drill a hole and do the wiring.
@gnome4x480 hahaha that’s just bloody typical!
What one thing you can now take with you now with the van that you couldn't with the camper?

Actually _water_ , we can now carry a lot more water then what we could with the camper.
7:19 - only 1.5 litres per 100km more with caravan, not 2.5 :)
Haha yeah look…. It was a quick math fail 😂😂😂

Also, fairly sure two 75 litre water tanks is 150 litres not 140 😂
