- A'rite guys n' girls, how's it going? Today I'm very excited to be able to show you, as well as review the brand new white dial Formex REEF, with a Swiss made Sellita SW300-1 (self-winding) automatic movement (Chronometer grade), officially certified by COSC.

This is a great looking watch, looks different than all the other divers out there. I'm buying this watch over an Omega Sea Master 300 white dial. The bracelet is much more comfortable than the Sea Master, and finishing on the Reef is also better. I get brand recognition may not be there as of yet, but this is a high quality Swiss Made Watch. If this watch had another more established brand name attach to it as it is , it would go for at least $3.5k
I couldn't agree more buddy 👍
Looks good on the black bezel - but looks amazing with all steel.
Time to start saving for this (and many others!)
Thanks for the review, have a great Christmas, and a happy new year!
Did you have any issues with the audio at all mate?
@@ZaltekReviews no, seemed fine to me
Cheers buddy 👍
@@ZaltekReviews Audio was fine. Whole video very slick but still got your humour. Where’s your dog?
@@baldeagle6128 Dog was sleeping, thankfully.
Ok, my fellow Caledonian watch nut.
I've got £2,200 to spend and have sports and field watches coming out of my ears but only have a single Automatic Diver at the moment, an SPB053 MAS. Now I used to be a Tudor/Ward/Oris/ Omega type but got bitten by the Seiko bug and have a love of the cushion turtle type cases, just so bloody comfortable.
I was going to spend my ill gotten loot on a Marine Master 300, OK I cant afford a new one but couls easily buy a second hand one.
Then the Uemura 'Willard' came along and there's a LE blue one in a local Authorised Dealer for £2.2k. The 6105 style case is ridiculously comfortable and easy to wear (not a fan of the top heavy nature if the MM300).
Then I saw the Gecko lads have just become auth dealers for Formex. I have to say I never really liked their mad early 00s efforts but the new range, the Essance and this Reef are really lovely and you get huge value for money... like the Uemura its a big watch but a wrist hugger so very comfortable. Unlike the Seiko you get a superb bracelet. The COSC Selita 300 is a cracker, as is the 8 series Seiko movement, but Seiko have a rotor which requires a tool that only Grand Seiko have so you have to send it back to Japan for servicing... wheras the Selita can be serviced by any decent watchmaker..
I'm not especially bothered about brand equity, in fact, for a married man like me with an in house 'Finance Director' not having Tudor, Rolex or Omega on the watch is a MAJOR bonus, 'But dear, it's only another Seiko....' (this even worked for a Grand Seiko... for a bit anyway 😁) and Formex? Outside our world, who has heard of them????
So here's the question?
Seiko MM300
Seiko Uemura LE Blue
Formex Reef in blue or white with a couple of different bezels?
Or do I just go Fek it and buy one of those Grand Seiko Sport 9F GMT quartzes with the Explorer 2 GMT style steel bezel?
I've had a couple of high end Seiko's, and to be honest, the Formex Reef blows them out of the water. I can't recommend the Formex Reef enough. After all, I did give it the dive watch of the year award in 2021. Shop around and don't pay retail. I'd recommend dropping SeriousWatches in NL an email, I highly recommend them. Let me know how you get on. Cheers, Will 🙏
@@ZaltekReviews cheers Will, I will have a look. Got a lot of micro brands at the moment, which is why I was a bit hesitant about a Formex but I'd argue that they aren't really a microbrand anymore, more like Damasko or Sinn or perhaps the relaunched Yema company.
I am a huge fan of quality value of money over brand. As a result my 3 current favourites are all from Eddie at Timefactors the Speedbird III is ridiculous value for money, especially the bracelet which is Damasko level of quality (made on same machine) and last year's addition, the Sewills Ferreia Marine Chronometer, which has an upgraded Unitas hand wound with a Swan neck regulator, blued screws, improved jewells and hand decorated Geneva stripes all for a grand.
I'm.a huge fan of the Seiko 6105 case because of comfort. But like you I'm a bracelet dude and I'm getting a bit fed ho of having to always buy an Uncle Seiko or Strapcode to replace OEM.bracelets.
The other serious issue with the Uemura is the 8series movement. Which is an awesome Grand Seiko engine and put together by 80 year old half blind craftsmen who live on a cloud above Mount Fujij BUT they have that rotor which needs a tool, which you can only get on that cloud... so servicing every 6 years or so is £800. Which means the watch actually costs you about £20 a month to run and every few years its away for 6 months and you also have to deal with the bawbags at Seiko UKs service centre..
The Formex.. well, any competent Watchmaker can service a Selita 300 and pressure test it.
@@ZaltekReviews hey Will, Serious Watches.. do they charge EU VAT on UK sales? I've had a play with their shopping cart and it reduces the price for USA and other non EU but doesn't for the UK. This means that buying from them would mean two doses of VAT. Is this right? I've dropped them a line on this but as I understand it they shouldn't collect EU VAT on UK sales as we get stung on duty our end
No, you don't pay EU VAT with SeriousWatches, I've ordered from them many times. It normally sorts itself out during checkout. If not, email them.
@@ZaltekReviews thanks Will. I'll give them a ring, I'll mention you, pal
Any worries about the bezel popping off when you don’t want it to? Many have commented about how easy it is to take off
It only comes off when you want it to come off buddy
Oooops, too many white dials Will... And this bloody thing, you don't even get it for the dial, the WHOLE fockin rest is awesome. Bloody well done mechanics in all aspects, a beauty everywhere you see/touch/feel. Strap, excellent! Bracelet, amazing. Bezel, choose and play. Dial, get the one you like. And finally pay and enjoy. If only they get the name off the dial too, sounds like a laundry powder from the 70's! 😋New logo is enough lads!
Cheers mate, merry xmas again!
PS Mate, audio goes from mono to stereo, back and forward. Is it the camera mic?
Fuck knows, something else I'll have to look into. Plays fine with my headphones. Is it just this video or...?
@@ZaltekReviews Sorry for the late answer mate. Saw the whole vid again, speaker tuned louder, seems it's not a mono/stereo rather than left/ right channel it comes out, must be your possitioning close to the mic or away from it. My mistake i guess but yesterday it sound weird.
No problem buddy, I still really appreciate your help and feedback on the video 👍
Is about getting used to the name.. I mean think about other well known names: Seiko, Rolex, Oris, Rado, etc. Formex is not that terrible.
Unbelievable watch this
I'm gonna have to see half the collection to buy this you swine
Lol amazing review will
I have one arriving tomorrow. I also had to sell a fair amount of watches to pay for it. I'll do an unboxing video over the weekend.
@@ZaltekReviews brilliant
Can't decide between this one or the formex essence 39....great video good sir.
I've owned both... The Reef suits me better to be honest.
Not safe for work, quite a lot of F bombs flyin around. Great watch. Might be the best value you can get for under 2k...
All my videos have a fair amount of swearing in them.
Formex seem to be cutting out a little niche of their own. Cracking watches but still not sure about the matching lump opposite the crown guards. But then if it's good enough for Patek, who am I to criticise. Have a good Crimbo Will.
You too buddy, merry Christmas 🎅
I've been eyeing this bad boy for a while, it looks dynamite was warried about the size, however seeing it on you i have no doubt👍 Now let's start saving 😃
Gave like for review and F word. Makes everything so natural :) Love it!
LOL, cheers mate 👍
Fuckin how much
They ain't cheap, but still less expensive than a similarly spec watch from other brands.
Remarkably good value for money. If this spec was Tudor you'd be way over £3500
