Casio DW291H Quartz Digital "Heavy Duty" HD Watch In Depth Review

- The "HD" or Heavy Duty watches from Casio are a step above the standard, ultra-budget friendly Casios you'll find at a typical discount store but not quite up to the toughness of G-Shocks. Still, these give an incredible value. Today's video features the W291H which is full of features. It has five alarms, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a world time mode, a tiny analog display and a nice amber-color LED backlight. The case is water resistant to 200 Meters. The watch will run for up to ten years on its lithium battery. The watch band feels strong too. This year the price at my local Walmart store was about $32 whereas I spent about $2 less than that a year earlier on the same watch with a slightly different color. But it's still a great value even at a price which is affected by our current inflation issues.
Here's another thing worth noting: The watch is said to be accurate to within 30 second per month. But I can report that the accuracy of this particular watch is much, much better than that. In fact, I had this watch for about a month and it's only off by about half a second. No kidding!
You're a beacon of light among all those YT watch reviewers. No pretence, no snobbery, just Casio quartz. Kudos!
My guiding principle seems to have always been based on the question of "What would I have wanted to know about this thing before I bought it?" I don't consider myself an online "Influencer". I'm not trying to sell anything. I just want the things I'm interested in to remain alive and well so I can still enjoy them. And I want to inform others who would be interested too (which helps those things I talk about to remain "alive and well"). So... it would be pointless for me to be a snob or to insist that others obey my commands or anything else like that. Thanks for "getting" what this channel is about.

Casio cannot be beaten when it comes to affordable rock solid watches. I absolutely love them!!
Just today, I'm wearing the red one at work. Bought it for 18 euros two years ago and still going strong. It's imposible to find a better constructed and feature packed watch in the market. It even has an internal steel ring in the case to give it more resistance and a double joint inside the pushers. It's better constructed than some new g-shocks.
Everything has gone up apart from our wages. Great review, I may very well get myself one of these DW291h to add too my Casio collection that my wife does not understand 😂

I love this watch. Fits my larger wrist well and works great. I have several GShocks and this watch compares pretty well with them. Not as tough I know but it feels solid.
Greg, there's two more models - the two DW-291HX's. Different colours and longer straps. You'll need to get those two as well to complete the collection 😀
I love this model, DW 291HX with the blue, silver, and black. Of the extra long double strap.
These are 'Baby' G-Shocks to me. A G-Shock on even more of a budget. Nice to have the entire collection, love to collect Casio

Classic ones are the best, just bought red & classic and left the classic ones, absolute bang for buck (had mine for $20 new).
Have this preferred from other versions loved this goldish colour, in Europe it's double the price ,bought it for 45 euro.

Great review. I really like this watch. I modded mine (the gold version) slightly by removing the "Illuminator" and "200M" lettering and buffed the case a bit to give it a patina - really pleased with how it looks

The DW290 has a "mini digital watch" instead the analog but has just 1 alarm and no WT

This casio actually have 5 versions available (as for today). You only missing the DW-291HX-5A (brown strap), and the DW-291HX-1A (black strap, but with clear face).
Do you plan to get it?
Just an FIY, if you can plop the mechanism of this one into ae1200/ae1300 body... it's a direct fit... very easy mod, if you find this too bulky, and you really like the functionality and the display...

Probably the casio i wear the most (black one). The only drawback is that I somehow unwillingly keep hitting the mode or search button, so often when I check the time it’s set to the wrong time zone. Perhaps the buttons are a bit too easy to press. Otherwise a great watch!
In my opinion is better than G-Shock. Unlike G-Shock these buttons are usable.
Totally agree plus $32 is a steal. The big buttons, large numbers, world timers, and multiple alarms than the dw5600. I wish they updated the module and get rid of the analog type display. While using the countdown timer I rather see the time as a display in digital numbers.
It's a good watch don't drop it on the ground just to see if it's shock resistant it might be I just don't understand why they use glass mineral glass for the bezel it could have used plastic but they chose to use glass sometimes I don't understand casio

Yes... I sometimes wonder what kind of abuse would damage a G-Shock without also significantly injuring the person wearing the watch.

If only it didn't have the ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS plastic blobs around the buttons... it already has the "analog" clock that's borderline gimicky, but it's actually pretty much a practical design, but the button bulges with the ridges, put this watch in the space toy category.
