Tonight is the first time that I heard this song. In my eyes I don’t see Mary as a singer but rather as a poet, and not just a poet, but rather as one of the best that we have, or have ever had!!
This song was used as the music to a beautiful commemorative video about my wife who died a few months back from cancer and perfectly reflects her views about the uncertainty of religions but she was committed to the lovely principals that all the great religions have at their core. It makes me cry and brings comfort at the same time - thank you MCC
Just reading this now. Hopefully "time heals" (some anyways?). And, there is nothing anyone can do to separate them from God's love. (That is what we teach at the ELCA Lutheran Confirmation classes).
I met Mary Chapin Carpenter long before she became famous. She was a great singer then and she's only gotten better. Every time I hear this song it gives me hope.
She is an amazing singer and songwriter. I’ve seen her a couple of times and she always reaches everyone’s soul. This is a perfect song for these crazy and uncertain times.
Chapin should've ruled the airwaves but she didn't fit into the "mold" She is a singer, song-writer with ultimate talent... Unlike the "country" singers of today!
Yes, totally undervalued artist :( But, only some (few) of the vast audience is really prepared to listen and feel like she poetically does. We are thankful she is continuing to evolve , song write and perform for us few. :)
What an amazing talent this lady is! Songwriter, singer and musician. I could listen to her play the guitar for hours. She is truly the reigning queen of country folk music.
I happen to agree with you Tom. I spent 14 years in radio. 10 of those years being on a country station in Ontario. When I first heard Mary in '91, I was stunned by her depth of emotion, of personal loss, and lonliness, and how she wrote so honestly from the heart. I think she is certainly one of the most introspective songwriters in the world over the last 30 years or so. Take care Tom.
I echo all of your sentiments. She pours so much of herself into every song whether her own or someone else's. I believe she and Lucinda Williams are cut from the same mold.
Absolute beautiful song, music and lyrics with her dear band just a few years before Mr Jennings left this world. This song is timeless and an anthem for decades to come. Grateful for the gift of music to keep the spirit alive. 🇨🇦 l🙏 💕
Very well said Sharon . Mary and John toured the world playing music for so many years . All those concert halls and stages . The countless hours in the recording studios . This keeps Johns sprit alive . Be well Sharon .
This artiste deserves more recognition and MORE awards these beautiful songs she wrote! I really want her to sing songs for movie soundtracks! I LOVE YOU, MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER!
Thank you Michael Moore and Stephen Colbert for leading us to this song which is as poignant today as it was when Mary Chapin Carpenter first sang it. I love what Michael said to Stephen on his show last night - that Nature is putting us in a time out. We need to think deeply about what we baby boomers have done to and not done for the planet Earth and what we need to do now to save it for future generations.
Thank you, Mary for sharing your songs and your time. I watch for your next song each day. It will be a little disappointing when you no longer need to give these gifts to us.
Around Mary it's easy to bee yourself what a wife if he's wise he will thank God for her and allways love her back to God sheroes make heroes love Davey
Michael Moore and his interview with Stephen Colbert regarding new movie release on RUclips, "Planet of the Humans", brought me here. View the movie and you will understand Moore's sensitivity about people and the earth.
You're so mesmerising, I do this and a few more of your songs as a Solo Music performer unplugged in Bangalore South India at the Welcome hotel on Richmond Road. God bless you 🇮🇳🙏😇

Love all her songs. When would you come to Paris for some concerts Mary-Chapin??? I have a hall about 200km from Paris we will be honored to have you here.. The place is call La Ferté St. Aubin;; Jennifer.
Thanks Mary-Chapin for that lovely song.. Really Love it.. Pity that Michael and Ruth are not open-minded when it comes to Religion.. Wether you like it or not guys.. There is ONLY one God** What-ever the names we give him.. So please Be less aggresive and violent to Mary-Chapin for God* sake.. Thanks.. Love you Mary-Chapin..
Go back and read Genesis again, Eve was the "darling of Creation". God's greatest creation. And Mary Chapin Carpenter is no question part of this gifted lineage. Mary has this "mother earth" sentimentality and intimacy that frames life in the most sensible ways. You can feel it, you can think it, you can remember it in your heart.
He may get in trouble for copyright stuff, but Michael Moore just shouted out to MCC with this song on Stephen Colbert’s at home show during Covid 19. MCC is doing these amazing at home shows, and I hope she performs this. It is amazing!

@@rebeccahowie623 So happy you discovered MCC, I have loved her since the early nineties and still do! First class songwriter and singer.

Country music carried a more thoughtful message than it does these days
Thank you Michael Moore and Stephen Colbert for introducing me to this song and artist :D
