The Gullah /geechee . The word geechee is derived from the ogeechee River in Georgia, United States. The word Gullah is derived from the word Guale. The Guale tribe which were American Indians from the Georgia sea Islands. Many people try to say that the words Gullah and geechee are African in origin but they Are NOT.

Majority of the so-called black people of Barbados did not come off of slave ships from West Africa. Many of the people of Barbados were indentured servants coming from Ireland. Many so-called people of Barbados were originally the Black Irish aka Moors that was expelled because of catholicism. There is a deep connection with the people of Barbados and South Carolina. My family is from Britton's Neck South Carolina. My family was some of the earliest settlers of Britton's Neck South Carolina . My family settled in Britton's Neck before the the American revolution. Many of the so-called people of South Carolina were Sephardic Jews and Muslims , huegnots aka Black Irish, black Jews and Muslims of Spain and Portugal, black Scottish, Black Britain and etc etc. There were even so called black people from Croatia that were some of the first settlers of the Carolinas. Do your geanology. Many of the people are Barbados have Irish surnames that are your original surnames not the surnames of white slave masters. There were also many white indentured servants also.
