- This has always been one of my favourite scenes in one of my favourite arcs (Genei Ryodan) of Hunter x Hunter. Gon and Killua try to trail a few GR-members, but get caught themselves.
I'm just happy that everyone is arguing about HxH being better than HxH. Because that's about the only thing that beats it XD

I wouldn’t dare to watch honestly the gore would be on another level and depressing.
I overall prefer 1999 objectively but to be fair, Chimera Ant Arc would have been in the early 2000s digital art style like the Greed Island OVA which would've really ruined the tone, unlike the hand-drawn watercolour up until the end of the Yorknew OVA of the original series. A Chimera Ant Arc in *that* style would have been unbeatable but it never would have happened.

@@ashwinnair3138 I think if the took time off to get used to the new workflow it would have looked fine. But it was an OVA series which many companies didn’t take seriously and it was using newer techniques that many people didn’t use at the time

ただ、戦いのリアルさは旧だね。
特に振り返ったり腕を下ろしたりゆっくりとした動きでの細やかな描写は、有るか無いかのレベルだからかなり違いがあるね。

旧は原作の雰囲気とあってるよねぇ。暗い描写とか
ストーリーの忠実さは新だけど、演出の忠実さは旧 そして面白いのは旧
俺は馴染みのある新の方が好きやけど…確かに旧には新とは比べ物にならない凄味があるな。
なんというか見てるうちに引き込まれるような…見てるだけで全く別の世界にいるような気持ちになれる。
緊迫感のあるシーンは旧のがいいけど、ギャグパートとか話のテンポは新のが好き

@@rafazardly Ok, now watch any Chimera Ant arc episode and count how many times they REUSED the soundtrack over and over. The Puppeteer being the biggest reoccurring one whenever anything suspenseful happens.

そしてここら辺は少し暗い雰囲気を醸し出せるセル画がピッタリなんよ。

@@LatimOnek Well, both Killua and Hiei are a lot like each other and both Hunter X Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho were made by the same person.
1999 has a darker, cinematic feel that is more in line with manga. Especially for York New arc.
However, in the Greed Island arc, 2011 is better overall.
I felt there were things for example this scene and Kurapika vs Uvogin were at least to me better in 2011 but the scenes after this those in between moments or like when Kurapika was walking passed the Mob dude at night with his scarlet eyes on after hearing of Chrollos “Death” like you said have such that darker feel not that 2011 didn’t do those scenes well but the strengths in the 1999 really show in those moments
That moment when Nobunaga catches a glimpse of Killua is intense as heck
I like how the original had a darker more serious ost for the most part like with the Jones fight. I've not seen the whole original series tho just clips
that fight is when I really saw this anime would change my life forever...

The more I watch this, the more I appreciate this version. The difference in how much faster Phinks vs Killua ends and has less dialogue is interesting
better atmosphere for the world of a hunter and definitely better directing
This version was always my favorite. The scene where Killua took that one guys heart in the hunter exam hit different back then.
@Gee Tar bro for the time it released that was the closest thing to greatness. 7+ years later they have the production quality close to OPM. HxH was the goat back then still is now bruu. However the OG felt way more cutthroat/high stakes than the bright/colorful world portrayed 2011. But hey that's just my opinion.

The Ultimate 1999 version I know it doesn’t matter but this anime is really something special I remember watching it last summer really badass anime

危険な人にキルア、ゴン以外の情報を話さないようにしてるけど、話の逸らし方がやや不自然。知らんぷりの仕方が子供っぽいところも細かい…

Both the 1999 and 2011 anime adaptions are fantastic in their own respective ways. This is hands-down one of the best parts of the series just because it gives you a really good perspective of how no-nonsense and flat-out capable the Phantom Troupe is, oh and let's not forget how ungodly strong each of them is💪

99 was amazing...for it's time. 2011 is the best version, especially being able to incorporate actual film techniques like the fish eyed lense dolly zoom into Gon and Killua's face, it gives that moment so much more tension, but would have been pretty much impossible to do in 1999.
Lexpionage impossible to do within a reasonable tv anime budget, yeah.
You forgot to mention the best part, the music.

@@dillybilly2611 this show has one purpose to be creepy and brutal, but in 2011 i don't know why the studio choose to make it different than the original, it's more bright and cheerful like a kids show even they scheduled the show right in time when kids have a break after school
Also they cut off many scenes in eps one that show us Gon getting hurts but Kite save him, Gon went to the freak show of mysterious animals and save all of them to show us a hint for Chimera arc that Gon is a good hunter cuz even wild animals love him, this cut scenes keep going until the greed island arc maybe the studio wanna speed up the story asap to the chimera arc
in 2011 the show start to be brutal without censorship before start of Chimera Arc and also they changed the HxH aired schedule in japan tv become 01:00 am after it become more violent, and finally they back to the right path

@@zoru_pines the 2011 hunter x hunter became brutal from the phantom troupe arc. See kurapika vs Uvogin or The phantom troupe slaughtering everyone in the auction. Also the shows was only airing on that after kids show timing until the heavens arena arc ended.
I prefer 99 version bcz it gives me the creeps and looks more serious and incredible for an anime that released in 1999

There is something unsettling about this version of the scene, and it actually adds to it!
The scene with Killua ripping off chunks of his ankle to escape Phink's grip was badass. This scene had more grit than its '11 counterpart.
One of the reason why it takes me 5 years to watch the 2011 version in the tone and the atmosphere of the series. In 2011 it's more like lighthearted and kiddy but the 1999 version capture the essence of adventure and mature. I was so excited of the 2011 version because of the original version but after 5 episode I drop it. I can't continue watching it. 2011 version destroy my expectation. Thank god they make a good adaptation of Greed Island and so on.

Considering this might be my favorite moment of the 2011 series, color me impressed with this. While I don't think it's as good, it is well done nonetheless, and is effective in its own way.

That interaction between nobunaga and phinks was the icing on the cake. Two of my favorite gr members
the old hunter x hunter had so much pressure to it. Honestly a lot of people comment that a reading a book is better than watching a movie, but dam the old hunterx hunter was that equivalent to the new one. It was so much more fleshed out and impactful. not to mention that old art style and old music choice had such character to it

the soundtrack fits perfectly with this scene when they are discovered this scene is one of the best in the anime
The 1999 looks so much cooler, 2011 is nice but just a bit too bright. Just holy fucking shit how amazing the Chimera Ant would look in 1999.

@fast cash bruh. In terms of animation, art style, voice acting, soundtrack and scenery. The 2011 version is leaps and bounds better. The 1999 version feels incredibly dull and shallow.
Oh and I don't understand how it matters but DBZ is definitely better than Super. For me Super isn't even watchable.

@@medic4838 comparing animation from 1999 to 2011 is idiotic since they had 10yrs gap. 2011 artstyle is shit, they're all skinny af, voice acting so pretentious not natural. Not to mention repetitive monotonous boring soundtracks repeat over and over again in a situation that put so out of place.
I've only watched the 2011 version of the anime (entirely) but I have to admit that this version was better, pacing and flow-wise. There weren't any pauses when Killua was trying to escape and the movement of one scene to the next really captured how fast the other two got up to the windows. Bravo, original series.

I always saw something charming yet creepy about the 1999 version. I’m the only one in my friend group that actually watched this version aswell. Both of them are amazing in their own different ways.

1999 is darker than 2011.. 2011 fans needs to agree to that.. NOT just nostalgia.
1999 focused more on the story.. whereas 2011 version rushed it until the end of greed island because why? because we've seen and understand the story already just like full metal alchemist brotherhood..
In the end.. It doesn't event matter.. Joke.. In the end.. Lets be happy they actually continued the anime.. I remember when I was in college.. Once in awhile I keep searching for the HxH continuation after Greed Island coz IT CAN'T BE THE END right? All of you should just pray that the author of this anime does not die.. He's just human after all..

Just rewatched the 2011 version, & idk what you're talking about because it is just as dark & tense; including the music. 1999 just doesn't have as good animation, so it looks literally darker, so the tone definitely feels it.
1999 has older animation which relies heavily on darker colors for a successful look.
2011 thematically used colors to paint the mood if you pay attention. They are both done very well. 2011 to me is superior most people don't like to admit that because of nostalgia. The 1999 version first focus on the actual story seeing how alot of it is full of filler. 2011 wasn't rushed it was just loyal and kept close to the manga. Your analysis of both are poor

@Shaman X it's glossy helped it imo the wide variety of color added for life in this world and brought to life the adventure aspect of it whereas the older version was more focused on a sort of scarier feel and action
killua is such a badass to be even able to pull that leg twist and get out of phinxks' grip with sheer raw strength.

This is a good example of why I prefer 99. It was clearly made for an older or (at least) more mature crowd. The music, the slight use of the nen string (without having to overexplain the fact that she was using it). 2011 is made for kids.

Yeah, I am aware, but it's weird to leave just one track(?) out like that. Either they just forgot to add it, or they had some kind of constraint.
